Page 4 Product description The LRC Battery Tester runs a test of a fully charged LRC-Small/Batt to check remain capacity, the microcontroller based communication and the internal electronic fuse. There are two types of tester: LRC-Battery-Tester with LED indicator (Article No. ST000154) LRC-Battery-Tester with LED indicator and RS232 (ST000155) The RS232 version works also without PC-connection. The LRC-Battery-Tester is for indoor (office) using. To get an expressive test result, use the tester under room temperature (18 C 27 C). It is not allowed to use it in Ex-zone! LRC-Battery-Tester in operation 1) Power on the Tester The yellow LED is blinking: waiting on battery 2) Insert fully charged battery If you work also with RS232 and PC software, you have to do following before insert battery: connect the RS232 cable to a PC COM port start the software wait until the software shows following message: wait on full charged LRC-Small/Batt The test is starting and the green LED is blinking: During the discharging up to 2000mAh the blinking frequency is slow, after that time the blinking frequency turns to fast. If there is another indication displayed, look at next chapter End of Test.
Seite 5 3) End of Test The test time depends on the capacity of the battery and can take up to 10 hours. Following LED indications are possible after end of test: a) Battery O.K. A LRC-Small/Batt battery can have up to 2700mAh. A typical value of a new battery is defined by cell manufacture at 2400mAh. Please note, that a brand new battery reaches the full capacity after several charging/discharging cycles! A steady green LED indicates a capacity > 2300mAh b) Battery Warning 1 If the capacity is between 2150 and 2300mAh you get a warning that the battery have not full capacity but this is normally not a problem to work further with it. The indication is a steady green and a yellow LED. c) Battery Warning 2 If the capacity is between 2000 and 2150mAh you get a warning that the battery capacity is weak and you should change it in the next time. The indication is a steady yellow LED. d) Battery Error to less capacity If the capacity is under 2000mAh you should change the battery. The indication is a blinking red LED. e) Battery Error communication to battery If the communication to the battery microcontroller is not possible, you should send the battery to SECU-TECH for service. The indication is a steady red LED. This error is affected direct after insert the battery.
Page 6 f) Battery not fully charged The inserted battery isn t fully charged (stored capacity less than 2600mAh or voltage lower than 6V). Charge the battery until your LRC- Charger shows a fully charged battery ( charge -LED is steady green). The indication is all 3 LEDs are blinking. This error is affected direct after insert the battery. g) Electronic fuse of battery is released LRC-Small/Batt has internal 2 electronic fuses which are released at 380mA. The tester works only witch appr. 300mA. If the fuses release at this current, the battery should be changed! The indication is a running light of the 3 LEDs. Software installation If you have bought the RS232 type of LRC-Battery-Tester, you have to install at first the software on a PC. The minimum requirement is: COM port (or USB/RS232 adapter) Windows XP, Vista or Win 7 512MB RAM 100MB free space of hard disk Display with minimum 1024 x 768 pixel Internet connection (for installation and automatic updates) Open an internet browser with following path: http://www.secu-tech.at/software Click on the link for LRC-Battery-Tester software. It is possible that also Microsoft.NET 3.5 SP1 will install if it s missing on your PC. After correct installation you get a new icon on your desktop:
Seite 7 LRC-Battery-Test software After starting the program, the battery tester is searched automatically on the available COM ports. After finding it you get following screen: The tester should be without battery inserted by starting the software! After insert a full charged battery, the test starts and the running test is indicated by a running wind mill on the right bottom corner of the window. The tester sends each minute following data: Battery voltage without burden in V Battery voltage with 22R burden in V Current with 22R burden in ma Capacity counter stored in microcontroller of battery in mah Discharging capacity of running test in mah Discharging time in minutes
Page 8 On the diagram you see for each minute a value for the battery voltage without burden (blue) and with burden (red). After finishing the test you get following screen for example: In this example the tested battery capacity is 2453mAh. This is a very good value for a battery. Sometimes you can lose information of the diagram (in case of window overlapping a.s.o). In this case you can press the Refresh button to refresh the display. If an error is recognized, you get the corresponding message on the screen.
Seite 9 Excel Data If the test is finished, you have more than 30 minutes of data and you remove the battery, you will asked to enter the battery serial number: Enter the full serial number (barcode label on battery) beginning with B and 9 numbers. After pressing Ok, the data will stored in a file under the map C:\LrcTester\ It is in.csv format and you can open it with calculation software like Excel. Now you can create a diagram with wished data like the both voltages, like in the example at next page.
