PVA Support Hub How to Set up the FCS300-ES Atomized Spray Valve These are the parameters to use a FCS300-ES atomized spray valve for selective conformal coating. The values given are for reference only, each coating reacts differently to the same pressure or flow settings. Written By: Technical Writing 2017 support.pva.net Page 1 of 10
INTRODUCTION Valve Settings for Solvent Based Coatings Additional solvent may need to be added in order to achieve clean spray patterns. Refer to the technical data sheet for the coating used. Fluid Pressure: 10-30 PSI Atomizing Air: 0.5 1.0 PSI Valve Stroke:.003 -.012 Speed: 75-200 mm/sec Line Spacing: 4-7 mm Valve On: Wait 0.03 0.05 sec Valve Off: Distance 3-12 mm Z Height, Best Accuracy: 6 12 mm Z Height, Basic coverage: 12 40 mm Valve Settings for 100% Solids Coatings Solvent free coatings may have higher flow or atomization settings (when compared to coatings with solvent) to compensate for a higher viscosity liquid. Fluid Pressure: 15-20 PSI Atomizing Air: 2-4 PSI Valve Stroke:.006 -.012+ Speed: 75 300 mm/sec Line Spacing: 3-5 mm Valve On: Wait 0.03 0.05 sec Valve Off: Distance 5-12 mm Z Height, Best Accuracy: 6 12 mm 2017 support.pva.net Page 2 of 10

Step 1 How to Settle the Atomizing Air Regulator Remove the air cap on the spray valve. Turn the valve stroke bolt clockwise until it stops. This will shut off the valve flow completely. Step 2 Push the Purge button and set the atomizing air pressure. Push and release the Purge button 3-4 times to make sure the atomizing air regulator is settled correctly. Replace the air cap. 2017 support.pva.net Page 4 of 10
Step 3 FCS300-ES Valve Setup Turn the valve stroke bolt (micrometer head) counterclockwise to the valve stroke setting in the Valve Settings at the top of the page. Fluid will dispense now when the purge button is pushed. Put the spray valve over a test sheet or purge area. 2017 support.pva.net Page 5 of 10
Step 4 Push the purge button for 1 second and examine the flow of material. You should have a smooth spray coating with clean edges. Create a test program with single lines or an area pattern. Run the program on a test substrate (PCB, glass slide, metal plate, etc.). Examine the spray quality and coverage. Adjust the valve within the given parameters until an acceptable pattern is created. Adjust the valve stroke and the atomizing air for the best results. The goal is to match the flow of material to the speed of the path. 2017 support.pva.net Page 6 of 10
Step 5 Incomplete Area Coverage The fluid flow is too slow for the path speed. Increase the fluid flow in small increments or reduce the path speed until you get a uniform coating. Move parameters can be changed in PathMaster in the Machine Parameters window. You can open or close the valve stroke adjust to change the fluid flow. If your system has a pump, you can change the pump speed to change your fluid flow. Refer to your pump manual for more information. You can view the pump and flow monitor settings in the "Pump" and "Flow Monitor" tabs in Portal. 2017 support.pva.net Page 7 of 10
Step 6 Wavy Edges The fluid flow is too great for the path speed. Decrease the fluid flow in small increments or increase the path speed until you get a uniform coating. 2017 support.pva.net Page 8 of 10
Step 7 Additional Fluid at Path Start or End The valve is on for too long before the robot moves. Decrease the "On" value. The valve is on for too long at the end of the path. Change the settings so that the valve stops dispensing sooner. The Valve (tool) "On", "Off", and "Wait" settings are in the Dispensing Parameters section of the Teach or Edit windows of PathMaster. Default parameters can be set in the Tool Configuration window of PathMaster. 2017 support.pva.net Page 9 of 10
Step 8 The line should be straight with little or no waviness. The area should be completely covered between the edges. Higher viscosity materials may have edges with a wave shape. This document was last generated on 2017-06-17 03:47:39 AM. 2017 support.pva.net Page 10 of 10
