AMG passion and safety combined Let s face it: one of the aims of sports accessories is to quicken the heartbeat. But for total enjoyment you need the assurance that the technology s right too. This is true even of light-alloy wheels, which many people wrongly assume are designed merely for visual impact. Like so many things in automotive engineering, light-alloy wheels have their origins in the motor racing world. When every second counts, materials need to be light, strong and totally reliable. All of our light-alloy wheels are specifically developed and produced for the individual model series. And they undergo stringent laboratory testing and they are tested on the road to ensure their suitability. All of which produces significant safety benefits. If you can t beat the wind, join forces with it There are certain things you can t avoid and a headwind is one of them. But you can use it to your advantage if you take the right approach. That is why the issue of aerodynamic drag is always given so much attention at Mercedes-AMG. It is not just designers who work on our front and rear aprons, our side skirts and rear spoiler lips. First and foremost, we call upon our engineers, who use wind tunnels to find out how to make the best use of the airflow. Then there are our experienced drivers, who test the practical benefits of AMG bodystyling under real driving conditions. The idea is to minimise aerodynamic lift, especially at high speeds, so that your Mercedes hugs the road in all driving situations. But the benefits don t stop there: AMG bodystyling also ensures optimum airflow to the engine and brakes. Of course, all of the AMG bodystyling elements have to blend unobtrusively with the design of the particular Mercedes model concerned. A sporting challenge which we are happy to meet. 7
