Ferritic steel and pitting corrosion - stainless and magnetism relation. Corrosion resistance is achieved throughout introduction of appropriate alloy elements into the steel. In case of stainless steel it is chromium, which confers special resistance to corrosion and high temperatures. Ferritic steel contains chromium and other elements that are responsible for the formation of an invisible layer that protects surface against corrosion. Thanks to chromium and other elements damaged area rebuilds itself through contact with oxygen in the air (passivation). Stainless steel pasivation mechanism UNDAMAGED SURFACE DAMAGED LAYER Corrosion resistance is dependent on chromium content and not on its physical structure - magnetism. Best pitting corrosion resistance is obtained through appropriate chromium content starting with 17,5% of steel volume. Ferritic steel containing at least 17,5% of chromium in steel volume are modern alloys that are nowadays more and more popular substitutes of austenitic steel types such as 304 type. Furniture specification All our products are made of stainless steel as a single welded or assembled monolith accordingly to product construction requirements. All the furniture is with adjustable leg fuze and equipped with protective equipotential pin.
