RENAULT TRUCKS Defense is a global reference in the field of light and medium armored vehicles. Our solutions set standards due to their versatility, comprehensive capabilities, and battle-readiness. The French Special Forces have recently acquired 300 Sherpa Lights for their operations. These vehicles are key for the French units in Foreign Operations. They are used every day in conflict zones, mainly in Africa, including in the coalition forces currently deployed in various peacekeeping missions. The Sherpa Light family is a very wide family, with many available versions for all kinds of missions. The Sherpa Light family is defined by its very high mobility, sturdiness and versatility. It can be deployed anywhere, anytime, to fulfill all roles, ranging from patrol to APC, mobile command post, ambulance, missile carrier RENAULT TRUCKS Defense offers specific support solutions, including remote solutions, to allow for a very high level of readiness, all over the world. It also benefits from a global network for logistics, spares and workshops. RENAULT TRUCKS Defense, ACMAT Defense, PANHARD Defense RENAULT TRUCKS Defense develops and manufactures a full line of armored, tactical, and logistics vehicles. It is a historical supplier for the French armed forces with circa 25,000 wheeled vehicles and trucks in service, including the battle-hardened Wheeled Armored Personnel Carrier (VAB) of which some 4,000 vehicles in over forty different versions have been delivered and which has been upgraded in its Ultima version. RENAULT TRUCKS Defense also provides with the complete 8x8 powertrain for the French Army's Armored Infantry Combat Vehicles (VBCI) and the special chassis for the 155mm self-propelled Caesar system made by Nexter Systems. RENAULT TRUCKS Defense has customers in more than 65 countries worldwide. To date, 1,000 Wheeled Armored Personnel Carriers (VAB) have been sold abroad. The 4x4 Sherpa Light and the Higuard have already been awarded their first export contracts. RENAULT TRUCKS Defense is one of the three stakeholders of the short-term consortium to which the French Minister of Defense awarded the Scorpion contract. It is participating in developing the new generation of wheeled armored personnel carriers for the French Army: the VBMR (Multi-role Armored Vehicle) and the EBRC (Armored Reconnaissance and Combat Vehicle). RENAULT TRUCKS Defense is also in charge of supplying powertrains for these two vehicles, namely all the parts and components that constitute the driveline, and providing full logistics for spare parts and common Scorpion subsystems. ACMAT Defense, created in 1947, manufactures the famous VLRA (liaison, reconnaissance, and support vehicle) that equips the French army and the armies of many other countries. Located in Saint-Nazaire, ACMAT has dozens of customers for its line of tactical and light armored vehicles (ALTV, VLRA, and BASTION), particularly in Africa, where their reliability and resilience are highly appreciated. PANHARD Defense has supplied the French army since the First World War and has been a subsidiary of RENAULT TRUCKS Defense since 2012. It specializes in armored reconnaissance and liaison vehicles, such as the light armored vehicle LAV, currently in service in France (1,600 vehicles delivered) and many other countries. It also manufactures the DAGGER, a heavily armored liaison vehicle, of which 1,200 vehicles have been delivered to the French Army to date. It is also exported to several countries (Europe, Africa, and Latin America). The Security version of this vehicle is in service in the French RAID (Research, Assistance, Intervention, and Deterrence) police unit. 4
The Sherpa Light family The Sherpa Light is a complete family of light tactical vehicles sharing the same 4x4 chassis specifically designed for military needs and offering very high mobility, protection, and carrying performance. The Sherpa Light has convinced Defence and Security forces in France and in several European, Middle Eastern, Asian, and Latin American countries. The Sherpa Light line includes various versions adapted to different missions: Defence: Reconnaissance, Patrol, Command and Liaison, Special Forces, Weapon System Carrier, Troop Transport, Forward Logistics, Medical Evacuation. Internal security: Police or Gendarmerie, quick response, counterterrorism, border surveillance units.. 5
The Sherpa Light family includes different versions that meet the entire range of military and internal security needs. All share the same driveline to facilitate maintenance and reduce ownership costs but are available with several types of wheelbase, cab, level of protection, and weapon and equipment system depending on the specific needs of the customer. The Sherpa Light APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) is a three-door armoured troop transport vehicle that can accommodate up to ten fully-equipped soldiers. It can also be equipped with a weapons system. For Security and Law Enforcement applications, the Sherpa Light can deploy a team of ten in a hostile situation or be used as a secure mobile command post. The Sherpa Light can be equipped with an assault ladder to help special units in police, counter-terrorism, or hostage release missions. 6
The permanent 4x4 chassis has a high ground clearance and high approach and departure angles. Its engine of up to 265 HP is associated with an automatic gearbox. The Sherpa Light base platform has a payload of up to 5 tonnes allowing for added protection, weapons, and modifications. Ballistic protection is modular and scalable and complies with CEN 1063 and STANAG 4569. Mine and IED protection complies with STANAG 4569. The Sherpa Light is equipped with Battlenet Inside, which is an electronic architecture that improves the combat effectiveness of the vehicle and its crew by networking all on-board equipment and energy management systems. The Sherpa Light can carry multiple systems: machine guns and anti-tank artillery up to 20 mm, missile launchers, mortars, 105 mm low-recoil gun, sensors, and assault ladders (used by the French Gendarmerie Nationale). It is very versatile and customizable for all missions. 7
