Agenda Ref: Description: Actions: 1.0 Introductions, Meeting Opening & General 1.1 Attendance and apologies were noted. 1.2 GR kicked off the AGM with a round of introductions 1.3 1.4 Potential new members were in attendance: 1. Thom Rob National Grid 2. Peter Crook National Grid 3. Neil Russell National Grid Each noted they were interested in possibly taking up panel positions but had attended to get a feel for what goes on within the BYMP. GR advised that at the AGM a general run down of the years events noting successes and failures normally takes part. 2.0 Meeting Agenda 2.1 GR provided and Agenda for the meeting. 3.0 Run-down of events / activities completed by BYMP in 2013: 3.1 JANUARY 2013 NG technical Visit (Stay Thorpe Substation) This event was delivered by MH and consisted of a technical overview presentation delivered by the site technician about the HV National Transmission System and substations The technical overview was then followed by a site walk round and discussion about the typical components on site. 7 x attendee s in total Repeatable event if necessary key contact at NG = Julian Sturdy 3.2 JUNE 2013 Our World 2050 2013 rendition Event being was organised and run by Arch Bishop Ilsley School again on 27 th June 2013 MH coordinated production of databooks for event with Tim Fox of HQ. MH coordinated volunteers Sam Daniels of Arch Bishop Ilsley School is the key contact Event was a success and is now once again supported by HQ so could be repeated at a different school if necessary since the Arch Bishop has now adopted this event. 2 of 6 Martin
3.3 3.4 3.5 3.4 3.5 JUNE 2013 Fusion Lecture Organised by MK Circa 45 people in attendance Good repeatability JUNE 2013 Fusion Visit Organised by MK and was a very good event with lots of technical detail and interesting topics. Circa 45 people in attendance and contacts in place to repeat event in 2014. Although it was noted that not many people may want to see the same thing two years in a row. AUGUST 2013 Staythorpe Power Station Visit and Tour GR arranged directly with Stay Thorpe Power Station. The date and time of the event was 23/08/13 (Friday) Event went down well and there were circa 25 people in attendance. GR has contact details and template for easy repeatability. SEPTEMBER 2013 CPD Lecture Dennis s Beard MK is managed this event MK advised that the event was run on 03/09/13 @ Birmingham University Engineering Department, B15 2TT Lecture was delivered by Dennis s Beards and was titled Management Performance and the 21st Century The synopsis was as follows: The talk highlights the success factors of a modern organisation and demonstrates that the issues that made us successful in the past, in no way guarantee success in the future. The talk also looks at the implications to individuals who want to be judged successful in their roles within the organisation MK noted circa 30 people attended and it was a success. NOVEMBER 2013 Get Chartered MK managed this successful event. MK noted it is easily duplicated and repeatable so should be considered in 2014. 4.0 Aspirations for 2014: 4.1 GR provided a brief overview and the attendee s discussed how to get the best out of the panel in 2014, covering off the following key points: Increase in active panel members Continued working with other institutions Development / enhancement of communications materials and presence in universities 3 of 6 Martin
Closer working with the Birmingham AD / Region Panel Stability and commitment to roles once appointed. 5.0 Event Ideas for 2014: 5.1 The following were proposed by the attendee s as possible ideas but it was noted that the new panel will have to brainstorm possible ideas as the new year kicks off: NG Technical visit (Compressor Station / Substation) Staythorpe PS visit Denis s Beard Lecture Fusion Power Lecture Sports / Community Socials Speak Out for Engineering Get Chartered JLR Tour and presentation Our World 2050 Support STEM Events Shale Gas Lecture Space Technology Lecture 6.0 Financial : 6.1 The current account balance stands at 474.80. we have not received all grant allocations for 2013 as these were not required due to various event cancelations. The grant allocations were all accepted for the region and divisions. End of year data was submitted by GR in January 14. MK to review current and new signatories to ensure this has been updated for the forthcoming year. MK 13/02/14 7.0 Panel Officer Elections: 7.1 GR noted that each year a mandatory whip round the table is completed to ensure that the panel positions are filled. The normal term for a panel member in any position is to serve 2 years after which point they can step down. It was noted that MH and GR would be stepping down due to other commitments and geographical location changes.
