Including list of all affected Side Channel Blowers Information about IE2, IE3 and NEMA motor changeover for blowers and side channel blowers

New standards and legal requirements The new standard and its scope With the aim of reducing energy consumption and therefore CO2 emissions worldwide, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has developed a new standard. The IEC 60034-30-2008 rates 50 and 60 Hz asynchronous motors with a power range from 0.75 kw to in terms of their degree or class of efficiency, thereby taking the place of the earlier regulations which varied between different countries in Europe. It also defines which motors are affected in different parts of the world, and what exceptions apply. In all member countries of the European Union, EU Regulation 640/2009 is definitive for application of the new standard In North America the EISA (Energy Independence Security Act) comes into force in December 2010, and specifies minimum efficiency requirements for NEMA motors (60 Hz). The new energy efficiency classes The standard IEC 60034-30 defines the new efficiency classes (IE = International Efficiency): IE1 (Standard Efficiency) IE2 (High Efficiency) (comparable to NEMA Energy Efficient) IE3 (Premium Efficiency) (comparable to NEMA Premium) Coming into force of the legal regulations (Europe and USA)* 01.01.2015, Europe IE3 for all motors from 7,5 kw to (or IE2 with frequency converter) 16.06.2011, Europe IE2 for all motors from 0,75 kw to 01.01.2017, Europe IE3 for all motors from 0,75 kw to (or IE2 with frequency converter) 19.12.2010, USA NEMA Premium (IE3) for all flange motors with foot from 1 HP to 200 HP (without foot NEMA Energy Efficient (IE2) is sufficient) 2 Elektror IE2 / IE3 *further countries see following page

Changes for blowers and side channel blowers 1. Who is affected? After 16.06.2011 only blowers/side channel blowers with IE2 or IE3 motors will be approved within the European Economic Area (EEA). This regulation affects manufacturers as well as plant designers/operators. Direct export of blowers/side channel blowers with IE1 motors (or equipment/machinery incorporating such blowers as components) to countries outside the EEA will continue to be allowed. Details of the regulations in individual countries can be found on page 3. 2. Which devices are affected? All blowers/side channel blowers equipped with a 50 or 60 Hz low-voltage three-phase motor with a power range from 0.75 kw to must by law be converted to IE2 or IE3 motors. This affects the following devices in particular: ND Low Pressure Blowers: D 060 (60 Hz), D 064 to D 092 and 2D 060 to 2D 08 RD Medium Pressure Blowers: RD 6 to RD 94 HRD High Pressure Blowers: HRD 1/4T to HRD 7/23 RDF Conveying Blowers: RD 4 F to RD 82 F SD Side Channel Blowers: SD 4n to SD 6400 (exception: SD 3) A detailed list of all the affected devices can be found on pages 4/5. 3. Are blowers/side channel blowers with multi-voltage motors affected? Yes! From 16.06.2011 onward blowers/side channel blowers with multi-voltage motors will no longer be supplied. By that date at the latest your existing multi-voltage devices will be configured with the best possible settings for your application. NOTE: To make this conversion as easy as possible both for yourselves and for us please get in touch with us in good time 4. Which devices are NOT affected? This standard does not affect the following: Blowers/side channel blowers with motors < 0.75 kw and > (i.e. specifically: D 03 to D 060 (50 Hz), 2D 04 to 2D 052, RD 0 to RD 5, HRD 1/2T and HRD 1/3T, SD 12 to SD 2n, SD 3, RD 14 F) Pole changing devices Single-phase devices The standard treats the following as exceptions: Devices equipped with a frequency converter (except 50 and 60 Hz) ATEX blowers 3 5. What changes need to be made to blowers/side channel blowers? We have made the following changes to the motors on the affected blowers and side channel blowers in order to bring them in line with efficiency class IE2: Higher-quality sheet metal More active material (in certain cases the external dimensions of the motor are altered*) More efficient motor cooling system Slot-fill factor increased by using more copper Rating plate modified (stating efficiency rating etc.) *The devices whose motor dimensions have changed are shown in the tables on pages 4/5. 6. Is there any change to the technical specifications of the blowers/side channel blowers with regard to airflow? Radial blowers: No! Side channel blowers: The characteristics of all curves stay the same, but in some cases the limit points change. For more information please ask your Elektror contact person. 6 Elektror IE2 / IE3

Changes for blowers and side channel blowers 7. When will blowers with IE2 motors be available? All blowers/side channel blowers can already be supplied with an IE2 motor on request. 8. What factors should be considered for medium- to long-term projects? We generally recommend that the changeover to IE2 motors is done at the earliest opportunity. Since the dimensions of the motor can change in certain devices, system design changes may become necessary (after 16.06.2011, even if there are dimensional problems, the use of IE1 motors will no longer be allowed). Advance planning should also enable you to avoid any processing or supply bottlenecks. If you export systems with blowers with foot motors (e.g. design B3) to the USA/Canada, please note that these may only be shipped with NEMA Premium (= IE3) motors from the earlier date of 19.12.2010. For side channel blowers and blowers with footless flange motor NEMA Energy Efficient (=IE2) is sufficient. We can also supply blowers/side channel blowers with NEMA motors. 9. Do I have to convert blowers/side channel blowers in existing systems to IE2? What happens in the event of a repair? Blowers/side channel blowers in existing systems that have already been commissioned do not need to be converted. With simple repairs such as replacement of bearings the existing motor does not have to be replaced (spare parts for IE1 motors will continue to be available). In cases where the complete motor needs to be replaced, the standard stipulates that the new motor must conform at least to IE2. 10. I am exporting systems/blowers/side channel blowers to countries outside the EU. What regulations are applicable there? An overview of national standards and legal requirements that are applicable around the world can be found on page 3. 11. Do the new motors result in higher purchase costs? Converting to the new motors leads to concrete additional costs (see point 5 for the reasons for this), and a cost adjustment is therefore unavoidable. This price adjustment falls into a different category from a general price increase. 12. What benefits will I gain from the new motors? IE2/NEMA motors will reduce your operating costs (90% of a motor s total costs are operating costs, the majority of which are energy costs) IE2/NEMA motors develop less waste heat IE2/NEMA motors have a longer service life IE2/NEMA motors are environmentally friendly 13. Where can I find further information and help with converting my blowers/side channel blowers?
