Crash The Crash Level analyzes data related to crash events and returns one result per crash. Examples: Time, weather, and location. Units The Units Level analyzes the experience of the units in the crash and returns one result per vehicle, driver, pedestrian, bicyclist, or train. Examples: Vehicle type, driver condition, and unit events. People The People Level analyzes the experience of the people involved in the crash and returns one result per occupant/person/party. Examples: Age, injury severity, and seat belt or helmet use. Prosperity Region 4 2013 Traffic Crash Data & 2009-2013 5-Year Trends Prosperity Region 4 is comprised of Allegan, Barry, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, and Ottawa Counties. West Michigan Prosperity Region Sources: The crashes in this report occurred on public roadways in Michigan and resulted in injuries, fatalities, or property damage (with $1,000 as a reporting threshold). The information was gathered from Michigan Traffic Crash Report Forms (UD- 10) submitted by local police departments, sheriff s offices, and the Michigan State Police. Other related information was obtained from the departments of Transportation, State, and Community Health.

Prosperity Region 4 1 Prosperity Region 4 Experience Revised 5/11/15 The 2013 comprehensive cost of traffic crashes was $1,365,000,000.* ities cost $690,000,000, injuries cost $575,000,000, and 'Property Damage Only' crashes cost $100,000,000. In 2013: There were 75,855 drivers in volved in 47,545 Prosperity Region 4 motor vehicle traffic crashes. Of those crashes, 140 were classified as fatal, resulting in 149 fatalities. An additional 10,710 persons were injured. Prosperity Region 4 experienced the highest number of motor vehicle crashes (5,421) in November, the highest number of fatal crashes (24) in October, and the highest number of persons killed (29) in October. Prosperity Region 4 driver statistics indicate 7.2 percent of licensed drivers were age 16-20, and 12.5 percent of drivers in that age group were involved in crashes. In Prosperity Region 4, motorcycles accounted for 0.8 percent of the total vehicles in crashes, and were involved in 11.4 percent of the total fatal crashes. * Cost estimates derived from the National Safety Council are approximations and have been rounded to the nearest $5,000,000.
