MV MV + MW MC MX Any police driver with a category B DVLA licence may be assessed and authorised to drive mini-buses up to 9 seats (inc the driver), medium sized vans (not C1/D1), e.g. Ford Transit, Station Van, Volkswagen Transporter, Mercedes Vito Supervisors Vehicle etc, with or without warning equipment MUST not drive in response mode. MUST not drive PSU protected carriers. Basic drivers, who have attended a 3-day C1/D1 course at Driving School, may drive Station Vans, Minibuses (up to 17 seats inc driver), large vans and PSU protected carriers. Basic drivers who already have a category C1/D1 DVLA licence may be locally assessed and authorised to drive Station Vans, Minibuses (up to 17 seats inc the driver), large vans and PSU protected carriers. MUST not drive in response mode. Response drivers (post January 2013 i.e. non-van) with category C1/D1 DVLA licence may be locally assessed and authorised to drive Station Vans, Minibuses (up to 17 seats inc the driver), large vans and PSU protected carriers. Must not drive in response mode or on Level 2 Public Order AID until full relevant course has been completed and permit updated. Response drivers (pre January 2013 i.e. van trained) with category C1/D1 DVLA licence may be locally assessed and authorised to drive Station Vans, Minibuses (up to 17 seats inc the driver), large vans and PSU protected carriers. If in doubt contact Driving School Basic Police Staff Collision Investigators, permitted to exceed the 30 mph speed limit, to conduct skid tests at scenes of collisions on closed roads. (Must have completed C&G part 1 Forensic Collision Investigation course). Mercedes Sprinter used by RTPC (Not fitted with screen grill) - Minimum C1 DVLA licence must have D1 if the vehicle has more than 8 passenger seats. Response drivers only USE OF POLICE EXEMPTIONS NOT PERMITTED unless PSU trained see MW above. RTPC Police staff drivers who are members of the MSC and have passed the Basic police driving exam.

This includes vehicles such as London taxis, Armoured limousines, CCC Forward Command Vehicles, Mobile Police Station etc. Due to the variety of vehicles in this category this is a general code. SDM s are to ensure that the specific vehicles are recorded in the officer's personal file and recorded in the driving permit. Covert Blue s & Two s Competency Based Assessor Tactical Contact - Non TPAC trained drivers within SCO19 who are trained in the use of tactical contact for pre-planned and spontaneous firearms operations. Tyre deflation trained - Device trained in should be entered in remarks of driving permit. Trained to deployed tyre deflation devices against motorcycles. Driving School Instructor

TL TT XA XP XV VA ZJ ZT Local familiarisers - Officers authorised by Driving School to conduct familiarisations at a local level. (Must be a trained assessor and have received familiarisation on specific vehicle types - vehicle type to be recorded in driving permit against TL code for example 4 x 4 on road, minibuses and specialist vehicles). Tactical Training. Firearms officers, who have been trained in the use of recognised driving tactics (to ARV standard) as contained within the ACPO Firearms Manual and MPS Police Use of Firearms (PuoF) manual. The officers will have a current tactics stamp on their blue card. Only applies to officers currently attached to one of the following units; CO19, SCD7 (5), CO18 ARV, CO6 ARV, SO14 SEG. No Auto in response All driver levels: Transferees / rejoiners who have not received any driver training on automatics. On completion of appropriate training, this restriction can be deleted All trained police drivers Response to Advanced who have been classified by the driving school as Non Pursuit, also includes transferees who have not been trained in the Initial Phase pursuit management module. Drivers must not take part in any phase of a pursuit. They are to assume the role of a Basic driver. Restriction will be lifted following attendance at Hendon Driving School to complete 2 -day course in the case of transferees or have successfully completed refresher training in Initial Phase Pursuit. Transferees, rejoiners or Response MPS drivers (post April 2015) who have not received any driver training on vans or PSU carriers. Drivers must not drive vans or PSU carriers in response mode until trained by Hendon Driving School (HDS). Drivers may be locally assessed to Basic Van driver only (see VA code). PSU carrier training is still delivered by HDS as a step up course for all officers trained in response driving pre April 2015. On completion of appropriate training, this restriction can be deleted Since October 2013 Response drivers Local familiarisation by an assessor in the use of Station Vans NON RESPONSE ONLY JCB Track laying.
