About this training RIIMPO338D - Conduct Rigid Haul Truck Operations This Nationally Recognised RIIMPO338D Conduct Rigid Haul Truck Operations training course is the entry level qualification to get a job driving huge dump trucks in the mines or quarries. No matter where you live in Australia - employers recognise this qualification. You'll learn on big MINE-sized dump trucks - the Caterpillar 773, which is one of the largest training trucks you can drive. The 773 is still widely used in mining operations. This world-class training will prepare you for what lies ahead when you step it up a notch into the 785 and the biggest truck in the Caterpillar range - the enormous 797. You will be training on a real mine site where you will be assist-ing with removal of overburden, working under the Mining and Quarrying Act. We ll make you job-ready This is what your typical day will look like on site. At the start of your shift, you ll attend the toolbox talk, where work schedules are discussed and allocated. You will wear personal protective equipment at all times. Work site inspection and coordinating tasks with other workers makes a more productive shift. Inspection of the truck is critical, because your safety and the safety of others is the number one priority. The first steps are to isolate the vehicle, then begin pre-start checks, inspecting the body, tyres, lights etc and report any defects. Next, you ll enter the vehicle using the standard, safe technique. Once inside the cab, you commence the start-up procedure. Start the engine only when all pre-start checks have been completed to your satisfaction. Plan and prepare Access, interpret and apply documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant. Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures.. Before moving off, survey the terrain and weather conditions; adjust your driving technique to suit throughout your shift. Always drive, manoeuvre, conduct and control the vehicle within its safe operation limits. You ll continually monitor hazards and risks, ensuring personal safety, safety of others and plant and equipment. Operations involve accurate positioning of the truck under excavators, shovels etc; where you will also monitor the safe loading of the vehicle. Dump trucks are complex machines and things can go wrong, therefore you will conduct regular inspections and fault-finding tasks. Your job is to also act on or report monitoring alarms systems within the vehicle and carry out re-fuelling and prepare for minor scheduled maintenance; keeping accurate written records along the way. At the end of your shift, you will conduct safe and compliant park-up and shutdown procedures and complete a log of your load, haul and dump activities during the day. Select and modify the operating/drive technique to appropriately meet changing work conditions. Drive, manoeuvre, conduct and control operations within the vehicle limitations.
