Description of the Edger This edger is designed to cut the ice closest to the dasher board. Safety Instructions Make sure all warning and information decals are in place, are clean and readable. Damaged decals must be replaced immediately. Symbols by Warning! This symbol means that you should be extra attentive and is always followed an information about what risk is. For your own and others' safety, do not use the edger without having first read and understood the entire contents of this manual Warning! Cutting tools: Careless use of machinery can lead to serious personal injuries. Cutting blades are sharp and dangerous. Always wear approved safety shoes with steel toe and slip protection when working with the machine on the ice. The Edgers safety functions Warning! Never use a machine with defective safety equipment. Safety equipment must be checked and maintained Here are the safety details on the edger, and their function. Brake for rotating plate The edger is equipped with a break on the outgoing axle from the electrical motor, which is constructed to quickly stop the cutting knives when the handle is released. Main switch The main switch cut the power to the controller of the edger. The key is removable so that no unauthorized personnel can use the machine. Operator Warning! In all uses of the machine must be approved personal protective equipment be used. Personal protective equipment does not eliminate the risk of injury, but it reduce the degree of injury in an accident. Persons under 18 years are not allowed to use the edger. Never use the machine when you are tired, have consumed alcohol or if you are using medicines that can affect your vision, judgment or bodily functions. 5
Use of the Edger Warning! Cutting tools: Always stand behind the edger and hold both of your hands on the handle when driving the machine. Never stand beside the machine with the engine running. Warning! The coupling mechanism of the edger is very sensitive. Even a small push of the handle when the machine is active will make the cutting knives move. Warning! Never modify this machine in a way that it no longer corresponds with the execution from the manufacturer. Never use the machine if it has been modified by someone else than the manufacturer. Never use other parts than those recommended in this user manual. Make sure the machine is installed properly according to the attached installation instructions and is correct maintained in accordance with these instructions. Risk area The minimum safety distance from the edger is 1 ft. Warning! Danger of slipping! Always use non-slip shoes Before every use: Make sure that: - The operator is using the correct safety equipment and clothing - The required maintenance is performed - That everything on the edger is securely tightened. - That all safety equipment is in place and functioning - The knives are correctly fastened and running free Maintenance Warning! Short circuit. Control on a regular basis that the battery cables do not have any damages. See to it that no metal parts are in contact with the battery terminals. Warning! Before performing service and maintenance on the machine: Turn the power switch to the OFF position and remove the key from the lock and remove the connection to the battery +. 6
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Batteries When installing the batteries in the machine, make sure the terminals are cleaned so that any possible oxide is removed. Make sure it is clean on the battery shelf. Fasten your batteries so they fit snugly. Connect the red positive cable to positive (+) on battery 2. Install the orange cable from the negative pole of the battery 1 and the plus pole of the battery 2. Connect the black negative cable to the negative pole of the battery 1. Replacement of cutters Warning! Risk of cutting damage. When you handle knives - Always wear protective gloves made of leather. Remove the key main switch and the positive terminal Tilt the tool to the right. (see Fig.) Each knife is fitted with two screws plus washers. NOTE! There are four knives in the disk-plus-two on top. The two upper blades are shorter and should not be confused. Add a drop of locking compound on the screws before mounting. Cutting blades are adjustable and should stand out from the plate with.64 in at the bottom and.63 in on the top. 7
USER INSTRUCTIONS Cutting Warning! Cutting tools: Always stand behind the edger and keep both hands on handles when you run the machine. Never stand next to the machine during operation. Start For the cutter on the ice surface. Lower the cutter by moving the lever to the right and forward until the cutting blades scraping lightly against the ice. Turn the main switch to "ON" and lift start and stop control. Adjust cutting depth. Make sure not to cut too deep. It is better to run two times. Stop The electric motor is stopped by releasing the handle. The cutting plate will then brake until standing still. Turn the main switch to OFF. Remove the key is maintenance is to be made or if the edger is not to be used within a short period of time TRANSPORTATION Push down the handle so that the cutter rises. Set up the front wheels on a pallet. Then lift the handle and the cutter up on the podium. Secure with straps around the chassis. Warning! Risk for crush damage! 8
MAINTENANCE AND TROUBLESHOOTNING Warning! Before performing service and maintenance on the machine: Turn the power switch to the OFF position and remove the key from the lock and remove the connection to the battery +. Maintenance instructions 1. Cleaning of the edger Clean the machine after every edge. 2. Battery and cables Before every edge, the battery and electrical cables shall be inspected for damages. Damaged cables shall be replaced immediately. 3. Knife break Control the function of the brake before each shift. The cutting plate shall stop within 10 seconds from release of the handle. 4. Knife Replace the cutting knives. 5. Batteries The batteries shall be charged after each shift. Charging of batteries Put the machine on charge after each edge and let it be connected until next edge. NOTE! Important: Connect the charger to the socket on the machine first, then to the wall socket after charging. Disconnect the plug from the wall outlet first before you release the charging cable. Risk of sparking. Before the battery is stored for long term storage shall be charged. Always keep batteries as cool and dry as possible. Charge the batteries at least once a month. Comply with environmental regulations when disposing of batteries. 9
It is important to change blades regularly (to get the best possible cutting performance). Using dull knives leads to wavy surfaces. Changing the fuse Remove the key from the main switch. Remove plus (+) cable from the battery, lift the lid fuse holder. Remove the nut and spring washer. NOTE! Be careful; do not drop the nut or washer down into the engine. Install the new fuse If the edger is loaded to heavy (the cutting depth is too deep), the fuse protects the motor from overheating.
