Canine Influenza Virus Protocol As of this date, we have heard of no confirmed cases of H3N2 Canine Influenza among agility dogs in middle TN, but there are many cases in North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. To minimize risk to our competing dogs, we are asking exhibitors to take the following precautionary measures, which have been endorsed by veterinarians and the AKC, during the trial: If you have a dog at your house that has been diagnosed with Canine Influenza, please do not bring an assumed healthy kennel mate to the trial. Utilize available space in the crating areas in the dirt room and main crating room so that crates are as far apart from each other as possible. We are not permitted to crate in the corridors or seating areas, per the Fire Marshall. Bring and use crate covers to reduce the chance of any virus spreading. Do NOT allow dogs to have physical contact with each other, and do NOT congregate in crowded areas around the ring. Use the hand sanitizer and other disinfectant supplies that will be provided at the three Sanitizing Stations (both crating rooms and the secretary s office). Individual fans on crates are discouraged. The building is cold enough that you should not need to put a fan on your dog. Because the aisleway outside the rings is so tight, we are requesting that only the people with dogs preparing to run be in the aisles outside the rings. NO CONGREGATING ALONG THE RAILING TO WATCH THE DOGS RUNNING IN THE RING. There is ample seating in the bleacher areas. If you are not in the next five dogs running, please wait either in the bleacher area outside the Standard ring or in the concrete area outside the JWW ring. The club will be policing this policy and requesting anyone standing outside the rings not preparing to run to relocate to the bleacher area. This precaution should give the dogs getting ready to enter the ring more room to spread out and separate from other dogs. If a dog is coughing in a way that resembles kennel cough (dry, hacking), we will be obliged to ask the exhibitor to remove all of his or her dogs from the trial site. We trust that all exhibitors will exercise appropriate vigilance in trying to keep our entire dog population free of this disease. Please help us keep everyone s dogs healthy and safe by following these simple steps. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
