On styles equipped with rivet retained handles, the rivets are covered by a screw retained remote control escutcheon. 1. Depress door trim assembly and insert J9886-01 between handle and trim panel or plastic bearing plate. 2. Push J 9886-01 to disengage clip. 3. Pull handle inboard to remove from spindle. 1. Retaining clip on handle. 2. Position handle on spindle. 3. Press handle outboard until clip engages regulator spindle. Without Power Windows

All wire connectors and bulb from escutcheon. 4. Escutcheon by sliding escutcheon forward to clear inside handle and inside locking rod and then sliding escutcheon rearward to disengage tabs on front of escutcheon from trim panel. 1. Wire connectors and bulb to escutcheon. 2. Escutcheon to trim panel by placing escutcheon over inside handle and inside locking rod and then sliding escutcheon forward to engage tabs on escutcheon to trim panel. 3. Screws to inside remote handle escutcheon. 4. Lock knob. Lock Knob

Insert a small flat-bladed tool, such as a screwdriver, behind end of lock knob and pry to force it away from rod. 2. After end of rod is free from knob, slide knob rearward to remove from assembly. 1. Position knob over locking rod and insert end of knob through hole in handle escutcheon. 2. Slide knob forward until end of rod goes into depression in end of knob. 3. Force knob against remote control escutcheon until rod snaps into knob. Trim Panel Map Pocket The trim panel map pocket is plastic and an insert type. Trim Panels Tool Required: J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Remover Trim Panel Removal & Installation The one-piece trim panel hangs over the door inner panel across the top and is secured by retainers down the sides and two clips at the split line. It is retained by screws located in the areas of the top front of panel assembly and armrest. 1. All door inside handles. 2. Door inside locking rod knob. 3. Screws inserted through door armrest into door inner panel or armrest hanger support brackets. 4. Mirror escutcheon and disengage end of mirror control cable from escutcheon. 5. On styles with power window controls located in door trim assembly, disconnect wire harness at switch assembly. 6. Remove control handle escutcheon screws. 7. Screws, plastic retainers and clips from perimeter of door trim pad using J 38778 and a screwdriver. 8. Escutcheon from trim panel. 9. Pass belt webbing through upper and lower slits in door trim panel. 10. To remove trim panel, push trim panel upward and outboard to disengage from door inner panel at the beltline. 11. On styles with courtesy lamps located in lower area of trim panel, disconnect wire harness at lamp assembly. NOTICE: Before installing door trim panel, check that all trim retainers are securely installed to the panel and are not damaged. Where required, replace damaged retainers per step 1. 1. Start retainer flange with 6.3 mm (1/4 inch) cutout into attachment hole in trim panel. Rotate retainer until flange is inside the attachment hole. 2. Electrical components where present. 3. Pull door inside handle inward. Position trim panel to inner panel, inserting door handle through handle hole in panel. 4. Position trim panel to door inner panel so lower front locator and trim retainers and clips are aligned with attaching holes in panel. Tap retainers

Waterproof body tape securing top of water deflector to door inner panel. 4. Using a flat-bladed tool such as a putty knife, carefully break sealer body between water deflector and door inner panel. Make certain tool blade is between inner panel and sealer. 5. Disengage water deflector from inner panel slots and remove primary and auxiliary water deflectors. ^ Inspect water deflector and, where necessary, repair any tears or holes with waterproof body tape applied to both sides of deflector. If old sealer does not provide a satisfactory seal, apply additional strip caulking to inner panel at unsealed areas. If a new deflector is to be installed, use old deflector as a template. 1. Apply a 75 mm (3 inches) piece of tape to the upper outboard surface (with power windows) of the deflector or a 125 mm (5 inches) to the lower surface (without power windows). 2. Apply hot melt adhesive or strip caulk to the inboard side of the deflector. Make sure adhesive bead is continuous and will guide water into drain slots. 3. Position water deflectors to door inner panel and insert lower edge of deflector in retaining slots. Firmly roll or press edges of deflector to obtain a good bond between deflector and door inner panel. 4. Apply 75 mm (3 inches) piece of tape to the upper middle edge of the deflector. 5. On inner panels armrest hanger brackets and support, seal attaching screw head and panel piercing with body caulking compound. 6. Door trim panel.
