Preliminary remarks In many applications in the commercial sector, supply air is discharged via simple grilles built into a room wall near the ceiling. Air jets produced by such large-surface grilles have only a low momentum. They are prone to instability and tend above all when cooling to descend early, which causes draughts. The resultant thermal discomfort occurs frequently in many hotel rooms. Nowadays, hotel guests demand high standards. They want comfortable furnishings and fittings in the room and thermal comfort, i.e. comfortable room temperatures without draught. To meet these requirements many hotels are refurbished, renovated or redeveloped. This includes improving indoor air flow in the guest rooms. To meet this need KRANTZ KOMPONENTEN provides the broad multiplex outlet, which is ideal for replacing grilles while retaining the ventilation system to raise thermal comfort in the room substantially at low conversion costs. In the following, the broad multiplex outlet is described and its function in hotel room applications explained. Construction design and function The main components of the broad multiplex outlet (Figure and 2) are the frontal plate with built-in nozzle disks 2 and moulded frame as well as mounting frame 3. The frontal plate is fastened with a plug-in connection 4 at the mounting frame and can be detached from the room. Figure 2: Broad multiplex outlet, size 3 The supply air flows simultaneously out through the nozzle disks and the perforated metal plate. The air jets with higher momentum from the nozzle disks induce the air from the surrounding perforated metal surface and direct the total supply air flow in a prespecified direction. The individual nozzle disks are manually rotatable through 0 from the room. The supply air flow can thus be spread as broadly as required. The outer nozzle disks (to the right and left) produce a flatter air jet than the inner disks, which enables a broader spread of total supply air flow. This is advantageous with asymmetrical air outlet placement in 3. to m wide rooms. This installation option is frequently chosen in hotel rooms. With an appropriate adjustment of the nozzle disks the supply air can be distributed over the entire room width (Figure 3 and ). For the most part, indoor air velocities are below 0.2 and most are even 0.. Sometimes clients wish to have air outlets of the same length in rooms with various air volume flow rates. For such cases the individual sizes are available with graded volume flow rate ranges (see table). The minimum installation height up to the bottom edge of the air outlet amounts to 2.2 m, the minimum distance to the ceiling (from the upper edge), 0 mm.
