2. On board verification procedure Component Procedure / location of ID-nos. Remarks Cylinder head Check ID number on machined surface (exhaust side). Inspection is recommended at overhaul when See Figure 1 the engine is dismantled. Piston Check ID number on piston crown. Inspection is recommended at overhaul when cylinder head is See Figure 3 removed. Turbocharger Check ID number on metal plate on compressor house. Unit injector Check ID number on injector body. Inspection is recommended at overhaul when the engine is dismantled and the injector unit is visible. Injector nozzle See ID number on injector nozzle. Electronic control unit and data set Charge air cooler Compression ratio Camshaft Supercharger Can be checked by using a diagnostic tool at a service shop. The ID number is stamped on the housing. Determined by the correct piston and cylinder head combination. Inspection is recommended at overhaul when cylinder head is removed. The ID number is located at the rear end of the camshaft. Inspection is recommended at overhaul when valve cover is removed and the camshaft is visible. The ID number is stamped at the rear end of the supercharger. The supercharger is only installed on engines with Volvo Penta IPS. See Figure 2 See Figure 4! Important! The ID numbers that can not be controlled unless the engine is taken apart shall only be checked at regular overhaul when the engine is taken out of service and dismantled for maintenance. Check only if considerable doubt of the correctness of the ID numbers exist. 4 / 10
