Finishing the design phase Christmas is approaching and so is the design phase deadline. Our engineers are working hard to optimize and validate their designs so that we can have a complete CAD-model before the deadline. The marketing team is also working hard to make sure that project is seen all over Campus. We did also have time for some fun in the midst of all our work, last Saturday we went to play some pool at the pub Paradis. Marketing We were at the ARKAD exhibition. ARKAD is the largest career fair in the south of Sweden and is organized annually by the student union, Teknologkåren LTH. Unfortunately we were unable to exhibit a car from a previous year because it could not fit through the door. We still got to meet plenty of students, and answer their questions. Hopefully many of them want to participate in next year s Formula Student team. While we weren't answering questions we took the time to mingle with the the other companies at the fair. Many of them were interested in the project and hopefully they will be interested in collaborating with the project. The marketing team has also been working with our social media and web page. We are constantly updating on facebook and instagram and we are also doing a small team-member-series on instagram featuring interviews with the team members. We have been updating our homepage, adding new information and new pictures. Our recent progress Since we are in crunchtime our subteams are dedicating many hours per week into designing their part of the car. The teams have to work together so that their specific
parts can fit together with the rest of the car parts. The frame and safety team is preparing for the impact attenuator test. We have received some pipes from Helens rör and aluminum honeycomb is on it s way from Plascore. This is needed to do the tests of the attenuator. We will make sure to give you the results of the test after it s carried out next year.. Last year s car is frequently being driven to test and validate our designs. A couple of days ago we were out on a freezing evening and driving the car to validate some data for the braking system and to test our wheel speed logging system. The collected data is for one of our new car features, the launch control system. This is something that hasn t been used in the previous LFS-cars. The electronics team are working hard and we are super excited to see the results when the car is done. Our hope is that the launch control will reduce the acceleration time even further. Another new feature for this year is a de-dion rear axle. We hope that the de-dion will reduce complexity of the system and provide better packaging and access to the engine The engine team are currently designing a plenum and cooling system for the engine. They are also preparing to set up an engine test bench which will be used for mapping and optimization. There are many changes to be made since we are using ethanol as fuel. The aerodynamics subteam has just recently gained access to LUNARC. LUNARC is Lund university's competence centre that provides calculating resources on supercomputers for scientific purposes. The aerodynamics team are using it to run sophisticated CFD simulations of the wing package. In the picture below you can see
them taking a break from their analysis to pose for a photo. Design phase ends on the 18th of december. When the design phase has reached it s deadline we should have a complete CAD of our car. When we return from our holiday celebrations we will begin manufacturing the car and start recruiting drivers and next year's team. We look forward to having more content to share with you then.
