Your new position as a Mechanic I entails performing semi-skilled tasks in repair and mechanical maintenance of automotive and other motorized equipment. You will be responsible for inspecting, patching, vulcanizing, and testing tires and tubes for motorized equipment; preparing newly purchased vehicles and equipment for delivery to using departments through inspections
and minor equipment additions or modification. You may be required to assist the Mechanic III on complex repair jobs. Your assignments and tasks will be given verbally and/or in writing The position requires a valid Driver's License, a high school diploma or equivalent, and six months of related experience in the fleet maintenance field which includes knowledge of troubleshooting and technical skills for diagnosis and repair, knowledge of safety issues and regulations when operating and repairing vehicles, knowledge of Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) CDL rules, regulations and requirements, knowledge of maintenance skills (e.g., replacing fluids, changing tires), and the ability to communicate both orally and in writing. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge or experience with fleet maintenance software (e.g., FASTER), ASE Certification(s) in light duty and/or heavy duty vehicle systems, valid CDL, and an Associate's Degree in Automotive and/or Diesel Technology. Examination process for this position will include: FIRST YEAR OBJECTIVES Mechanic I One Year Objectives Within Three Months Familiarize yourself with policies and procedures of the City of Goodyear. Familiarize yourself with Mechanic I duties and requirements in regards to Fleet maintenance management Software. Familiarize with Fleet repair and work flow in regards to Mechanic I duties. Obtain an Arizona CDL. Within Six Months Familiarize yourself with parts procurement policies and procedures in parts acquisition. Familiarize yourself with the vendors in which the Fleet and Equipment Maintenance Division does business with. Within One Year Demonstrate the ability to purchase parts and accordance to City of Goodyear procurement policies and division level requirements. Demonstrate the ability to complete a C level PM inspection on all light duty vehicles within the City.
