Failure of these fasteners may result in major service expense. Use the same or equivalent parts if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Tighten fasteners as specified. All vehicles 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Section 414-01. 2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to Section 100-02. 3. NOTICE: Disconnect the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) steering gear power supply electrical connector or damage to the steering gear internal power relay may occur resulting in steering gear replacement. NOTICE: The ignition must be off when disconnecting Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) electrical connectors. Failure to follow this direction may lead to DTCs being set in the EPAS module that can not be cleared, and result in the need to install a new EPAS assembly. Release the red Connector Position Assurance (CPA) feature and disconnect the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) power supply electrical connector. 4. Remove the wheel and tire. Refer to Section 204-04. 5. Remove and discard the lower ball joint nut and bolt. 6. Separate the lower arm and the wheel spindle. Vehicles with 5.8L (4V) engine 7. Remove the battery and battery tray. Refer to Battery and Battery Tray Exploded View in Section 414-01. 8. Remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe. Refer to Intake Air Systems Components Exploded View, 5.8L (4V) in Section 303-12.

9. Remove the 2 LH cowl vent screen plastic rivets. 10. Lift the cowl screen and remove the ground strap bolt. Detach the ground strap retainer from the cowl. 11. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose quick connect at the engine. 12. Install the Engine Lifting Bracket. 13. Remove the LH engine mount nut. 14. NOTICE: Lift engine approximately 45 mm (1.771 in) from the bottom of the engine mount to the bottom of the engine bracket ensuring that no contact is made with the bulk head or damage to components may occur.

Install the Engine Support Bar. Using the Engine Lifting Bracket and Engine Support Bar, raise the LH side of the engine to gain clearance for removal of the LH steering gear mounting bolt. All vehicles 15. Remove the starter solenoid terminal cover. 16. Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the 2 wires from the starter solenoid. 17. Remove the steering gear bolts. Position the steering gear to gain access to the lower control arm forward bolt. 18. NOTICE: Note the orientation of the lower arm forward bolt and nut. They must be installed using the same orientation or damage to the steering gear bellows boot may occur. NOTICE: Use care not to damage the steering gear bellows boot while removing the lower arm forward bolt. Remove and discard the lower arm forward bolt. 19. Remove and discard the lower control arm rearward nuts and flag bolts. 20. Remove the lower control arm and bracket assembly.

Installation All vehicles 1. NOTE: To ease installation, the position of the lower control arm nut and flag bolt may be reversed to allow installation of the nut from underneath the vehicle. Install the lower arm and bracket assembly and the lower arm rearward nuts and flag bolts. Tighten the new nuts to 185 Nm (136 lb-ft). 2. NOTICE: Use care not to damage the steering gear bellows boot while installing the lower arm forward bolt. NOTE: Do not tighten the lower arm forward bolt at this time. Loosely install the lower arm forward bolt. 3. Position the steering gear and install the steering gear bolts. Tighten to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft). 4. Connect the 2 wires and install the 2 nuts on the starter solenoid. Tighten the B+ terminal to 12 Nm (106 lb-in). Tighten the S-terminal to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). 5. Install the starter solenoid terminal cover. Vehicles with 5.8L (4V) engine 6. NOTE: While lowering the engine, make sure that the engine bracket aligns to the engine mount stud bolt. If necessary, shift the engine slightly when lowering. Using the Engine Lifting Bracket and Engine Support Bar, lower the LH side of the engine onto the engine mount.

7. Install the LH engine mount nut. Tighten to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). 8. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose quick connect. 9. Install the ground strap bolt and attach the retainer. Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in). 10. Install the 2 cowl vent screen plastic rivets. 11. Install the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe. Refer to Intake Air Systems Components Exploded View, 5.8L (4V) in Section 303-12. 12. Install the battery and battery tray. Refer to Section 414-01.

All vehicles 13. NOTICE: The lower ball joint seal must be fully seated against the wheel spindle or damage to the ball joint may occur. Position the lower ball joint into the wheel spindle and install the new lower ball joint nut and bolt. Tighten the nut to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft). 14. Install the wheel and tire. Refer to Section 204-04. 15. Lower the vehicle so the weight of the vehicle is resting on the wheel and tires. 16. Tighten the new lower arm forward bolt to 205 Nm (151 lb-ft). 17. NOTE: Make sure the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) electrical connector is fully seated and the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) feature is engaged. Connect the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) power supply electrical connector and secure the red CPA feature. 18. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Section 414-01.
