1 of 7 4/27/2015 11:28 AM Demographics In 2010, there were 12,013 licensed drivers in Aztec. Of these, there were 6,040 females and 5,973 males. The population of Aztec was 6,763. The total number of crashes in 2010 was 133, yielding a crash rate of 20 per thousand people (total number of crashes 133 divided by total population 6,763 times 1,000). The corresponding rate for the state was 21 per thousand people. General Crash Information From 2006 to 2010 the number of crashes has shown a downward trend. Fatal and injury crashes have also shown a downward trend from 2006 to 2009. Belt usage (as a percentage) involving Visible injuries has decreased since last year, while belt usage involving Incapacitating injuries has not changed. Belt usage (as a percentage) involving Fatalities has not changed since last year. There were no fatalities in the 7 intersections with the most crashes in 2010. Of these intersections, five involved Aztec Blvd. Alcohol-related Crash Information Information about alcohol-involved crashes is included in all sections of this report. Of the 45 people convicted of DWI in Aztec, 49 percent were first-time DWI convictions (number of first convictions 22 divided by the total number of people convicted 45 times 100). Crash Specifics involving Other vehicles was the most common class, accounting for 61 percent of all crashes. Pickups and Passenger cars were the vehicle type most often involved in crashes, accounting for 37 percent of all vehicles in crashes. Van/4 WDs accounted for 16 percent of vehicles involved in crashes. These three vehicle types comprised 91 percent of the vehicles involved in injury crashes. The most common top contributing factors were Driver inattention, Other and Following too close. There were no fatal crashes in 2010. in Overall, males were 52 percent of drivers in crashes. They account for 50 percent of licensed drivers in Aztec. Three pedestrians were involved in crashes in 2010. In 2010, no "Teenagers" or Young Adults were killed in crashes in Aztec. Statewide 11 percent of alcohol-involved drivers were under 21; in Aztec 40 percent (2 of 5) were under 21. Location of arrest/conviction was determined by police agency/court location, not driver residence. and drivers were counted by the city of occurrence/residence. Population was counted according to the Census definition. The city population data is from the most current 2010 census counts. Young adults are people between the ages of 20 and 24. 'Teenagers' are people between the ages of 15 and 19. Tables only include variable values for which there are data.
