The customer is completely responsible for cutting the hole and installing the mounting brackets on the Staff Workstation Model 995. The 3M technician will complete the installation. Staff Workstation Model 995 In-Counter and On-Counter Installation To physically install the Model 995, the customer is responsible for: The Staff Workstation Model 995 can be installed on a counter or in a counter. In either case, the same placement requirements apply. The upper unit must be placed at least 12 inches [304 mm] away from all monitors. However, more space is better and if space permits 18 inches [457 mm] from any monitor is preferred. Ensuring that magnetically recorded media will always remain at least 6 inches [152 mm] away from the upper unit. The 3M service technician is to make all electrical connections to the Staff Workstation Model 995. The 3M service technician requires access to the front and back of the electronics box. The upper unit should be installed with no modification by the customer. The upper unit is designed to process books either in a right-to-left motion or left-to-right motion. The 3M service technician will install the scanner on the upper unit based on the position of the bar codes on your material. This will be done when the electrical portion of the installation is completed. Refer to Section 1.0 for in-counter installation and to Section 2.0 for on-counter installation. 3M 1999 July 1

1.0 In-Counter Installation This installation method cannot be used if the counter top is less than 3/4 inch [19 mm] or more than 2-1/2 inches [63 mm] thick. Discuss alternative mounting methods with your maintenance personnel. A template and cutting instructions are packaged with the Model 995. Note All dimensions given in this document are for reference only. You must use the template that comes with the machine for a guide to cut the hole in a counter top. This is to be used with a router to cut a hole in the counter. 1. To physically install the Model 995 in-counter, the customer is responsible for: Cutting the hole in the circulation counter. Installing the mounting brackets. Ensuring the cable (6 feet) from the upper unit will reach and is accessible to the electronics box. Ensuring electrical power will be available for the Model 995. Power must be within reach of the 6 foot [1,8 m] power cord which comes from the electronics box. A switchable power strip is suggested to control power to the Model 995 electronics box, CRT terminal, printer, and wedge (optional). Ensuring there is adequate space beneath the counter top. Look under the counter to ensure the mounting area is clear of obstructions or support brackets. The upper unit requires an 18 inch wide, 9 inch long, 4 inch deep space under the counter top. Allowing room under the counter for the Staff Workstation electronics box: The electronics box must be located to allow connection to the 6 foot [1,8 m] cable from the upper unit and to the 6 foot [1,8 m] cable from the keyboard wedge. Ensuring the keyboard wedge is located within reach of the following connecting cables: Cable to your terminal is approximately 18 inches [457 mm] Cable to your keyboard cable is 8 inches [203 mm] Cable to electronics box is 6 feet [1,8 m] 2. 3M technicians are not authorized and are not equipped to physically install the Staff Workstation Model 995 in the counter. 3. Mounting brackets and wood screws are included to install the Model 995 in counter tops that are ¾ inch [19 mm] to 2-1/2 inches [63 mm] thick. The placement of the mounting brackets on the bottom of the upper unit varies for different thickness counter tops. Figure 5 shows the bracket layout for different counter tops. 4 3M 1999 July

2.0 On-Counter Installation To physically install the Model 995 on-counter, the customer is responsible for: Installing the upper unit on the counter top. Ensuring the cable (6 feet) from the upper unit will reach and is accessible to the electronics box. It is your option to drill a hole through the counter in a convenient place for this cable or to route the cable over the edge of the counter. This may result in the cable being in the work area. If the cable is routed through the counter, the customer is responsible for cutting the hole. Use a drill with a 2 inch [50 mm] diameter cutting blade to cut the hole. Allowing room under the counter for the Staff Workstation electronics box: The electronics box must be located to allow connection to the 6 foot [1,8 m] cable from the upper unit and to the 6 foot [1,8 m] cable from the keyboard wedge. Ensuring electrical power will be available for the Model 995. Power must be within reach of the 6 foot [1,8 m] power cord which comes from the electronics box. A switchable power strip is suggested to control power to the Model 995 electronics box, CRT terminal, printer, and wedge (optional).
