BEFORE INSTALLING THIS SYSTEM Required Tools 1. Digital Voltmeter or Multimeter 2. Wire Strippers 3. Wire Crimpers 4. Wire Cutters 5. Electric Drill with Drill Bits 6. Various Screwdrivers 7. Mechanics Socket Set 8. Electrical Tape 9. Tie Straps WARNING!! Use of a grounding type test light or logic probe could cause damage to vehicle electronics. It is strongly recomended that a digital voltmeter/multimeter be used to test vehicle circuits. Vehicle Information 1. Obtain a printout of a wire and location chart for the vehicle from the internet. http://techservices.codesystems.com Username: DIY Password: 852 2. Check with your authorized Code Alarm dealer for any additional parts or accessories necessary to complete the installation (i.e. door lock interface or relays). 3. If you have additional questions or need installation support the Code Alarm Technical Services team can be reached at (800)421-3209. Plan your Installation 1. Allocate 3-4 hours for a typical installation. 2. Choose a well ventilated area to work. 3. Read through the entire installation manual prior to starting the installation. 4. Locate and verify all vehicle wiring prior to making connections. 5. Locate mounting locations for components (control module, LED, programming switch etc.). 6. Prep the wiring harness (group wires that will be going to the same area in the vehicle) 7. Cut wires to fit before making connections in the vehicle. (This will make for a neater installation) 2

System Layout 3

1. TWELVE PIN HARNESS Battery Power (RED/PURPLE) Locate the vehicle battery wire(s) at the ignition switch. Verification: These wires will register voltage in all positions of the ignition switch. Connect the RED wire to the vehicle s battery wire. Switched 12 volts Ignition Input (YELLOW) Locate the vehicle s Ignition wire at the ignition switch. Verification: This wire registers voltage when the key is turned to the ON (or RUN) position. The voltage does not drop out when the key is turned to the START (or CRANK) position. Connect the YELLOW wire to the vehicle s Ignition wire. Chassis Ground Source (BLACK) Connect the BLACK wire to a solid chassis ground point using a ring terminal and self tapping screw (not supplied). Scrape away paint from the grounding point to ensure a good connection. The recommended grounding point is a painted metal surface in the driver s side kick panel area. Note: Do not ground the BLACK wire with any other vehicle components. Ground When Armed Output to optional Starter Interupt Relay (ORANGE) Using the supplied starter interrupt relay, cut the vehicle s starter (crank) wire at the ignition switch and make the connections in diagram 1 below. Use Code Alarm part HDRLY or MRLY (an SPDT relay, not included). ORANGE Ground When Armed Input 87 87a 86 85 30 Diagram 1 Switched Ignition Power At Vehicle Ignition Switch Starter Wire From Ignition Switch X CUT To Starter Motor Low Current Horn Output (BROWN/BLACK) Locate the vehicle s horn wire at the steering column. Verification: This wire will rest at positive voltage and register ground when the horn switch is pressed. Connect the BROWN/BLACK wire to the vehicle s horn wire. 4

1. EIGHT PIN HARNESS, CONTINUED Parking Light Output (+) (WHITE) Locate the vehicle s parking light wire at the vehicle light switch Verification: This wire will register positive voltage or ground when the vehicle parking light switch is turned to the ON position. Negative Polarity Systems: Connect the WHITE wire to the vehicle s parking light wire at the light switch. Positive Polarity Systems: Connect the white wire as shown in diagram 2 below. Use Code Alarm part HDRLY or MRLY (an SPDT relay, not included). Diagram 2 Fused +12 Volt Battery Source Fused +12 Volt Battery Source 87 87a 86 85 30 WHITE (+) Parking Light Output To Vehicle Parking Light Wire Door Pin Switch / Dome Light Wire (BROWN/PURPLE) Entry Illumination (BLACK/WHITE) Locate the vehicle s dome light or door pin switch wire. Verification: This wire will register positive voltage or ground when the vehicle s interior light is ON, an reverse polarity when the vehicle s interior light is OFF. Connect the BROWN/PURPLE wire to the vehicle s dome light or door pin switch wire. For Negative polarity circuits: Connect the BLACK/WHITE wire to a strong chassis ground source, and move the jumper on the side of the control module to the negative position (see the system layout page for details). For Positive polarity circuits: Connect the BLACK/WHITE wire to a fused 12 volt battery source, and move the jumper on the side of the control module to the positive position (see the system layout page for details). 5

1. EIGHT PIN HARNESS, CONTINUED Trunk Release Output (WHITE/BLUE) Trunk Release Input (White/Blue) Locate the vehicle s trunk release wire at the trunk release switch. Verification: This wire will register either positive voltage or ground when the trunk release is activated. Connect one of the WHITE/BLUE wires to the vehicle s trunk release wire. If the system is negative, connect the other WHITE/BLUE wire to a strong chassis ground source. If the system is positive, connect the other WHITE/BLUE wire to a fused 12 volt battery source. Alternate Channel (-) (WHITE/GREEN) The Alternate Channel (-) WHITE/GREEN is designed to trigger an external accessory remote start system, but can also be used an an auxillary output to trigger optional accessories. Channel 4 / Auxilliary Output (-) (PURPLE/BLACK) TheChannel 4 Auxilliary Output (-) PURPLE/BLACK is designed to trigger an external accessory such as a window control module (Code Alarm part WCM1, not supplied) and gives the ability to raise or lower the vehicle windows using the transmitter. 6
