The campaign was able to reach its funding goal of 25,000 USD with in the 48 hours after launch. This new form of transport fuses aspects of an electric skateboard with an electric scooter; it has a three-wheeled skateboard base and lean-to-steer handle and axle, which engineers worked on for three years. The goal was to make a model that would be easy for anyone to learn without standing forward. Scooterboard originated from the struggle of the team members themselves. They had been trying to find an electric skateboard or scooter to ride. When they had difficulty finding one they felt was easy to learn to use, they decided to make one of their own. As founder of the Scooterboard team in San Diego, Rose Wang, says, "I'd tried skateboarding multiple times but it felt like there was a steep learning curve. I'd try and feel like wanting to give up. We designed the Scooterboard in this intentional way because we want anyone to learn to ride it. Within just one session, most people - no matter their level - will be riding it with confidence." The team decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign to spread awareness about this new electric rideable and secure the foundation for larger-scale production of Scooterboard in the United States. The Kickstarter campaign launched on August 29, 2017 and remains live until September 28, 2017. Participants can pledge enough to get a Scooterboard of their own or give partial funds to get branded gear. The creators of Scooterboard had the goal of creating a device that would be both easier to ride and more affordable than most electric vehicles. This is why the team is offering Scooterboard at about one-third of the price of similar devices on the market. While the MSRP value of Scooterboard will be $699, there will be an extra discount for those who pledge the full amount through the Scooterboard Kickstarter campaign. Within the first 24 hours, a VIP early bird pledge of $359 granted someone a Scooterboard. After the first 24 hours, early bird pricing will allow someone to buy a Scooterboard for $449; a pledge of $539 will grant someone a Scooterboard after the VIP and early bird specials. Within forty-five days, it will be shipped directly to them. Bob Yan, COO Scooterboard Bob Yan has been making electrical electric rideables for 9 years. He started his professional life as a mechanical engineer working with 5 friends from college to bring his first device to market: an automatic HVAC duct-cleaning robot complete with vacuum suction that runs entirely on battery power. It wasn't long before he moved on to fulfilling his passion of inventing new methods of portable transportation that not only make everyday people's lives easier but also encourage more people to be less reliant on cars in an effort to relieve congestion in urban areas and make a smaller environmental impact. Rose Wang, CEO Scooterboard Rose Wang has been an entrepreneur since immigrating to the US in the 3rd grade. It started out with selling her drawings on a stick at daycare; in high school, she started in e-commerce by importing Asian cosmetics into the western Hemisphere; while in college at Dartmouth, she started a biotech company to fight against aging naturally. Now, Rose is tackling a problem she's grappled with all her life: making electric rideables that are accessible and affordable for everyone. Growing up in San Diego, surrounded by the skateboarding and surfing culture, Rose felt the steep learning curve made that culture inaccessible to many people. She hopes that Scooterboard will allow more people to enjoy the fun and unique feeling that was off-limits before, and open the door to encourage more innovation in the electric rideables industry. www.myinmotion.com
