The Proven Industry Leader in Ergonomics and Accuracy In 2010, in order to determine the ergonomic benefits of the VWR Ultra High-Performance Pipettor, United States Ergonomics was hired to conduct an independent study on the VWR Ultra High Performance (UHP) Pipettor versus several leading brands currently used in research. Controlled testing was conducted using 8 non-biased professional laboratory personnel who use a pipettor daily. Variables measured included device forces, muscle effort levels, productivity rates, and ratings of user perception, comfort and preference. Electromyography, a measurement of the muscle effort levels required for the use of a product or performance of a task, was used to measure effort and predict fatigue potential. The products tested included 200µl and 1000µl versions of the leading brands. Protocol Summary The test participants used each product during a sequence of standardized pipetting tasks. Each device was tested with a universal tip and with the device-specific branded tips (with the exception of the Rainin device, because no generic tips are available). The 200µl devices were used for the testing. All pipettors and the associated tips were new. The tests included the following: Full Cycle the participant completed a series of three full cycle application of the device. Tip Application measured from a common postural starting point Aspiration measured from a common postural starting point Dispense measured from a common postural starting point Tip Ejection measured from a common postural starting point Volume Adjustment adjusted from 200µl to 150µl and back to 200µl The VWR UHP Pipettor was superior in all of the test categories. The testing indicated significant measurable differences in the factors associated with user effort, measured forces, user perceptions, fatigue potential and comfort. Overall, the VWR UHP Pipettor s ergonomic performance was the best among the products tested. Most Preferred Among Pipettors Tested The results indicate that the VWR UHP Pipettor was ranked as the most preferred pipettor in every category, including: Tip Application Effort Tip Ejection Effort Volume Adjustment Effort Overall Physical Effort Overall Fit in the Hand Overall Comfort to Use Overall Speed and Efficiency Overall Preference
Independent Ergonomics Study Results Product Performance Ratings The product performance ratings indicate that on average, the VWR UHP Pipettor required the least overall effort of all the devices tested. The statistical analysis indicated that the overall average ratings of product performance (below) for the VWR UHP Pipettor were significantly higher than all of the other pipettors tested (p<0.05). Tip Application Effort Product Force Testing The full cycle testing represented the application of the devices as may be commonly expected in the laboratory. During this test, the participants completed three complete self-paced applications of the pipettors. Each full cycle included tip attachment, aspiration, dispense (w/overblow), and de-tipping. The VWR UHP Pipettor on average was among the fastest devices and required significantly less muscle work and total work then the leading competitors. On average, the VWR UHP Pipettor had required the lowest overall effort than all of the devices tested. The tip application forces were measured for both tip types on the 200µl and 1000µl products. The results indicate that the 200µl VWR UHP Pipettor product required the lowest tip application forces for both the generic and custom tips. Ultra High-Performance Advanced Pipettor s Technology features and benefits Lightweight, ergonomic design minimizes hand strain during extended use Advanced comfort is supported by extended finger rest, minimal plunger force, and built-in tip ejector Locking mechanism prevents accidental volume change Volume Adjustment Force Volume Adjustment Force is the amount of pressure used to adjust the volume counter. Pipettors that do not include a locking mechanism often require higher forces to adjust the volume. This can be very uncomfortable for the user, especially when adjusting from the low end to the high end or vice versa. With the addition of the volume lock in the VWR UHP Pipettor, the pressure necessary to adjust the volume is drastically reduced. Easy volume adjustment is achieved by pulling up, turning wheel to desired volume, then pushing down to lock. Adjustable ejector height permits use with wide variety of tips Durable, fully autoclavable pipettors are supplied with a tool for in-lab calibration Superior mechanical accuracy and precision ensure reliable results throughout extended use Comfortable for right- or left-handed users High-strength, chemical-resistant polypropylene polymer handle permits autoclave sterilization Volume wheel locks easily when pressed downward to prevent accidental volume change Include color-coded identification tabs, hanging shelf clip, calibration certificate, and self calibration tool that allows in-lab calibration when used with a balance Accuracy and Precision Above all, a pipettor must be able to accurately and consistently deliver results. Therefore, both the accuracy and precision of each pipettor is checked prior to leaving our manufacturing facility. Rather than simply ensure that the pipettors meet the ISO required tolerance, we test the pipettors to a standard that is unmatched in the industry. Pipetting Stroke One ergonomic factor of a pipettor that is often overlooked is the pipetting stroke. The pipetting stroke refers to the distance the plunger button must travel before reaching the blowout step. The larger the distance, the longer the user must exert force onto the pipetting button. In addition, pipettors with a larger pipetting stroke can be uncomfortable to operate, as the user must reach with their thumb to top the button. The new VWR UHP Pipettor has a minimal stroke height, adding yet another ergonomic advantage to the VWR UHP pipettor.
Completely autoclavable for sensitive laboratory applications, all VWR UHP Pipettor models are fully autoclavable at 121 C/100 kpa/20 min., unlike many other autoclavable pipettors. VWR UHP Pipettor requires minimal accuracy checks and/or recalibration VOLUME SETTING push thumbwheel UP to alter volume setting, press it DOWN to lock the volume! EJECTOR BUTTON large surface for optimum contact, color cap for volume identification Ultra Soft Spring System requires low pressures for pipetting. one of the lowest on the market! Stainless Steel plunger ensures faultless operation even in aggressive environment digital volume display 4-digit counter with easy-to-read numbers and simple calibration (counter resetting) Secure shaft assembly plunger, springs, compression bush, blocking bush (+sealing parts in VE200, VE I 000*) -fixed firmly inside shaft holder set easy access to sealing parts through replaceable (unscrewable) shaft, re: models VE2 to VE 100 plastic plunger ensures faultless operation even in aggressive environment uv resistance highest grade materials and dyes allow safe sterilization with UV radiation. even in prolonged exposure * higher volume models VE200 and VE I 000 available only with shaft set (no separated parts: shaft and holder)
