Remove the transaxle assembly with torque converter. 2. Drain the ATF from the torque converter assembly. 3. Inspect the torque converter clutch oil seal. 4. Order repair parts based on oil seal inspection. A. If the seal is damaged, replace the torque converter assembly. B. If the seal is OK, replace the transaxle and torque converter assemblies with a REMAN ATM. 5. Install the transaxle assembly with torque converter. 6. Add ATF-WS. 7. Complete the repair. Repair Procedure 1. Connect Techstream and check for DTCs stored in the Engine & ECT. A. Is P0741 the only DTC stored? NOTE If DTC P1578 (Brake System Malfunction) also set, this TSB still applies. YES Proceed to step 2. NO Diagnose the other DTC(s) first, this TSB may NOT apply. B. Refer to the appropriate Repair Manual sections.

Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model year RAV4 Repair Manual: Transaxle Assembly: Removal Transaxle Assembly: Removal 3. Separate the torque converter assembly from the transaxle for inspection. Figure 1. OK Condition. A. Drain the ATF from the torque converter assembly. B. Inspect the torque converter oil seal for cuts or tears. Is the torque converter oil seal damaged? YES Replace the torque converter assembly ONLY. NO Replace the transaxle and torque converter assemblies with a remanufactured ATM unit. Figure 2. Damaged Seal (10 o clock to 2 o clock Position).
