Hw t Install the Batteries Hw t Hld the Lamp: The InteliEnergy Lamp selectin switches utilize the same technlgy as cell phnes: Capacitive Tuch. This assures the ultimate in lngevity because there are n mving parts r electrical cntacts t wear ut. Fr assured best perfrmance, each unit selfcalibrates all aspects f the Capacitive Tuch feature each time pwer is applied t the lamp. S, when batteries are being installed (r pwer is being plugged in withut batteries already installed), it's imprtant that fingers and hands are away frm the switches. As a result, hld the lamp by its arm s that fingers are away frm the light switches as the batteries are being installed r as pwer is being plugged in. Which battery gets installed first? During the installatin f the batteries, it is best t g by the numbers n the battery cver s the batteries are prperly identified. FIRST: Tp battery (clsest t the arm) SECOND: Middle battery LAST: Tp battery (furthest frm arm) 1

What type f battery can be used? InteliEnergy Lamps can aut sense and adapt t any battery type that is being installed. Any battery type in the AA/14500 size package can be used. This includes: Lithium Irn Phsphate (LiFePO 4 r LFP) at 3.2V: rechargeable and recmmended fr highest perfrmance, the battery included with yur purchase. NiMH at 1.2V: rechargeable and recmmended fr lwest purchase expense. NiCad at 1.25V: rechargeable but nt recmmended due t bslescence. Alkaline r Lithium at 1.5V (will pwer lamp, but are nt rechargeable). Li-In at 3.7V: rechargeable but nt recmmended due t less perfrmance. The lamp autmatically identifies the type f battery as they are being installed, and then applies the ptimized charge algrithm fr that battery type t maximize the verall life f the battery. If nn-rechargeable batteries are installed, the lamp will functin but the batteries will nt be charged when pwer is plugged int the lamp. What d the status lights mean as the batteries are being installed? The InteliEnergy Lamp has many diagnstic features regarding the health and peratin f the lamp. When installing NiMH batteries (1.2V) First and secnd battery, n status LIGHT will cme n. Third battery installed, All three status lights will turn n and ff during the initializatin f the micrprcessr. Then, green status light will cme n and will blink based n the charge f the battery (see sectin belw). When installing Alkaline r Lithium (fully charged at 1.5V) First battery, n status light will cme n. Secnd battery, All three status lights will turn n and ff during the initializatin f the micrprcessr. Then, green status light may cme n, blinking. Third battery, red status light will cme n and green will be slid (meaning that the lamp will perate but batteries cannt be recharged). When installing Alkaline r Lithium (1.5V, partially r fully depleted). First battery, n status LIGHT will cme n. Secnd battery, All three status lights will turn n and ff during the initializatin f the micrprcessr. Then, green status light may cme n, blinking. Third battery, red status light may nt cme and green will be blinking (lamp will perate). When pwer is plugged in, the batteries may start t charge but after a shrt time the batteries will be classified as nn-rechargeable and the red status LIGHT will cme and the green LIGHT will be slid, and charging will stp s that batteries and lamp are nt damaged. When installing LFP (3.2V) First battery, All three status lights will turn n and ff during the initializatin f the micrprcessr. The green status light will be n and will blink. This means that ne LFP installed in the lamp can be charged (see Equal Charge). 2

Secnd battery, the red status light will be n and green status light will be slid. This means that the lamp will perate but the batteries cannt be charged when there are nly tw batteries installed. Third battery, green status light will be n, shwing that the batteries are prperly installed and ready fr peratin. It will be slid, r blinking depending n the amunt f charge in the batteries (see belw). When installing Li-In (3.7V) First battery, All three status lights will turn n and ff during the initializatin f the micrprcessr. Then the green status light will be n and blink. This means that ne Li-In installed in the lamp can be charged (see Equal Charge). Secnd battery, the red status light will be n and green status light will be slid. This means that the lamp will perate but the batteries cannt be charged when there are nly tw batteries installed. Third battery, the green status light will be n, shwing that the batteries are prperly installed and ready fr peratin. It will be slid, r blinking depending n the amunt f charge in the batteries (see belw). What happens if I put a battery in backward? Nthing at all. The battery hlders prevent electrical cntact f the battery if they are put in backward s n status lights will cme n and nthing will be damaged. What if I put batteries f different types int the unit? InteliEnergy Crdless-Battery Lamps are s intelligent that they can sense when different types f batteries are being installed. After the batteries are installed, the red status light will be n and the green status light will be slid, letting yu knw that smething is wrng with the batteries and that they will nt be charged. AND the lamp will be able t perate, s in emergencies, the lamp will functin even when the prper batteries are nt installed. What are the recmmended batteries and why? LFP (3.2V) The battery that is prvided with the unit. LFP batteries prvide the best perfrmance but are the mst expensive and nt readily available in stres. Operates the lamp fr 4 hrs. n high, 8 hrs. n medium, 18 hrs. n lw. Allws fr fastest recharge, 3 hrs. in full t medium amunt f sunshine with a 5W slar panel r wall plug adaptr. LFP batteries can be recharged many hundreds f times prviding years f service in the lamp. USB devices can be charged directly frm LFP batteries, withut pwer being plugged int the lamp, but this des decrease that amunt f time that the lamp will perate n battery pwer. (See sectin belw) NiMH (1.2V) The least expensive and easiest t purchase rechargeable battery. Operates the lamp fr 4 hrs. n high, 9 hrs. n medium, 23 hrs. n lw. Recharges relatively fast, 5 hrs. in full t medium amunt f sunshine with 5W slar panel r wall plug adaptr. NiMH batteries recharge a few hundred times, s when the lamp is used every day, the batteries will have a useful life f abut a year. USB devices can nly be charged when pwer is plugged int the lamp. 3

What d the status Lights indicate? InteliEnergy Crdless-Battery Lamps prvide a lt f infrmatin abut the functining f the lamp thrugh the status lights. In general, the green status light gives indicatins abut the batteries, and the yellw status light gives an indicatin f the amunt f pwer plugged int the lamp, and the red status light means smething is nt right. Green Battery charge level (n pwer plugged int lamp). Slid means they have a charge f 80% r mre. Medium blink means the charge is between 20% t 80%. Fast blink means the charge is less than 20% and there sme urgency t recharging the batteries. Yellw Pwer level frm wall plug adaptr r slar panel. Slid means there is full pwer available frm the slar panel r wall plug adaptr. When using the wall plug supplied with the lamp, the yellw status light will always be slid with the wall plug adaptr plugged in. Medium blink means there is limited pwer frm the slar panel (perhaps it is partially in shade). Charging is still ccurring but less pwer is available. The USB prt will NOT perate when the yellw status light is blinking. Fast blink means there is very little pwer frm the slar panel and needs t be mved, r the sun as set t lw in the sky. The USB prt will NOT perate when the yellw status light is blinking. Off means that n pwer is plugged in. Red and Green The batteries are either nt rechargeable, r there are mixed battery types installed in the lamp r the battery temperature is abve 150 F. Red and Yellw There is pwer plugged int the lamp but it is just enugh pwer t run the micrprcessr in the lamp, but nthing else. Fr instance, it has becme night time. All OFF If batteries are installed. If the batteries are abve the minimum vltage, after 10 minutes f nt being used, the lamp will g int a lw pwer mde and will turn ff the status light, t nt ver-deplete the batteries with the lamp is nt in use. Tuching any ne f the fur lamp buttns, r plugging in pwer, will autmatically take the lamp ut f its lw pwer mde and the status lights will begin functining again. The batteries have gne belw their minimum vltage threshld and need t be charged. D nt take ut the batteries, mre details belw. 4

What devices can be charged frm the USB dedicated charge prt? The USB charge prt aut-detects the charging standard f the unit that is plugged in fr charging, and autmatically prvides the crrect electrical signature t charge cmpliant devices. Devices such as: Mbile phnes Tablets Cameras Can the USB prt be pwered frm batteries? When LFP r Li-In batteries are installed, the USB prt can be turned n t charge USB cmpliant devices. Simultaneusly press the OFF and LOW buttns. The Red and Yellw status lights will flash, while the green status light will be ff, and then the green status light will cme back n. When the USB device is charged, r unplugged, the lamp will g back t nrmal peratin after ne minute, at which time the red and yellw status lights will flash. Charging USB cmpliant devices frm the batteries will drain the batteries and s less pwer will be available t perate the lamp. The lamp may be turned n while a USB cmpliant device is being charged frm the batteries, but the duratin that the lamp will be n will be greatly reduced. What is the charging time based n battery type and surce f pwer? LFP batteries with a 5W slar panel: 3 hrs. at 700W/m 2 r greater slar incidence 4 hrs. at 300W/m 2 slar incidence LFP batteries with supplied wall pwer adaptr: 3 hrs. NiMH batteries with a 5W slar panel: 5 hrs. at 700W/m 2 r greater slar incidence 10.5 hrs. at 350W/m 2 slar incidence NiMH batteries with supplied wall pwer adaptr: 5 hrs. What des Equal Charge mean? LFP batteries can be recharged many hundreds f times. Over time the charge f each battery may becme different, ne battery nt getting as much charge as the thers. An indicatin f this happening is when the lamp will nt perate fr as lng. A special feature f InteliEnergy Crdless/Battery Lamp is that each battery can be individually equal charged s that they all take the same amunt f charge again. Operate the lamp until the green status light is blinking. Remve all f the batteries frm the lamp. Install ne battery in the first battery hlder (see prper battery installatin). Operate the lamp until the green status light is blinking. Plug in the pwer t the lamp. In three hurs, the battery will be fully charged. Remve the charged battery and repeat these steps fr the ther batteries. When the last battery is charged, remve it, the install all three batteries s that the batteries are prperly identified. My lamp des nt run as lng as it used t, why? NiMH getting ld (a few hundred recharge cycles) LFP and Li-In It's time t equal charge each battery r batteries are getting ld (many hundreds f cycles) 6

I may nt use my lamp fr several weeks, is there smething I shuld d? When yu knw yur lamp will nt be used fr an extended perid f time, it is always a gd idea t d ne f the fllwing: Leave it plugged int yur slar panel, r ptinal wall pwer adapter, t keep the batteries charged and fresh. The batteries will nt ver-charge. Remve the batteries s that they remain fresh fr the next time yu use yur lamp My lamp has sat fr a lng time and nw the status lights d nt wrk, what shuld I d? Fr NiMH batteries: D nt take ut the batteries, just plug the lamp int pwer and the lamp will fully charge the batteries. Fr LFP batteries: Plug in pwer t charge the batteries. When the red LED cmes n, remve the charging pwer and remve the batteries. Install ne battery int the number 1 battery hlder and plug in the charging pwer. If the green status light cmes n and is blinking, then charging has begun. Install the ther tw batteries and allw them t charge fr abut 15 minutes. After abut 15 minutes remve the charging pwer, and remve all f the batteries. Re-install all f the batteries and plug in the charging pwer. The batteries will charge in the nrmal time. If the green status light des nt cme n, then remve the pwer and install a secnd battery int the number 2 battery hlder, plug in pwer again. When the green light begins t blink, put the third battery int the number 3 battery hlder. Allw batteries t charge fr abut 15 minutes. After abut 15 minutes remve the charging pwer, and remve all f the batteries. Re-install all f the batteries and plug in the charging pwer. The batteries will charge in the nrmal time. Hw d I activate the 2-hur timer? Simultaneusly press the OFF and MEDIUM buttns. The Red and Green status lights will flash, while the Yellw status light will nt change. T turn ff the timer befre it times ut, just press the OFF buttn. Des the timer wrk fr all light levels? Yes. After the timer is set, select the desired lamp brightness. If the lamp is turned ff within 10 secnds f the timer being set, nce 10 secnds has passed, the Red and Green status LEDS will blink nce t shw that the timer is n lnger active. If the lamp is turned ff and the timer has been running fr mre than 10 secnds, r the timer times ut, when the lamp turns ff the Red and Green status LEDs will blink nce t shw that the timer is n lnger active. Can I change the light level while the timer is running? Yes, changing the lamp brightness des change the time peratin. Hwever, pressing the OFF buttn turns ff the lamp and stps the timer if mre than 10 secnds has passed since the timer was started. 7

Hw d I knw if the timer is running? When activated, the red and green status lights blink tgether. When the lamp turns ff the status lights will d the same thing. What can I charge based n pwer surce? Wall plug adapter The batteries can be charged, the lamp can be turned n withut drawing pwer frm the batteries, and a USB cmpliant device can be charged all at the same time. 5W slar panel with 700W/m 2 r greater slar incidence (maximum slar incidence in the middle f summer at the equatr is 1000W/ m 2, the standard fr hw slar panels are rated), ne functin at a time can be perfrmed. USB cmpliant device charging. Lamp battery charging in 3 hrs. Lamp peratin withut drawing pwer frm the batteries, up t Med brightness. 5W slar panel with 350W/m 2 slar incidence, ne functin at a time can be perfrmed USB cmpliant device charging at a reduced charge rate. Depending n the device manufacturer, charging may nt ccur at this reduced pwer level. Lamp LFP battery charging in up t 4 hrs. This is a special feature f InteliEnergy Crdless/Battery Pwered lamps. The charge time increases nly 33% during times when the pwer f the sun is reduced by 65%. Lamp peratin withut drawing pwer frm the batteries, up t Med brightness. 5W slar panel with 300W/m 2 slar incidence, ne functin at a time can be perfrmed USB cmpliant device charging at a reduced charge rate. Depending n the device manufacturer, charging may nt ccur at this reduced pwer level. Lamp battery charging in up 4.5 hrs. This is a special feature f InteliEnergy Crdless/Battery Pwered lamps. The charge time increases nly 50% during times when the pwer f the sun is reduced by 70%. Lamp peratin up t Lw brightness. Hw d I maximize the amunt f pwer utput frm the slar panel? Keep the slar panel in full sun. Psitin the slar panel s that its face is perpendicular t the sun s rays. Keep the slar panel clean. The sun prvides the mst amunt f pwer at nn, when it is verhead. Fr the mst amunt f pwer, use the slar panel frm mid-day t midafternn. InteliEnergy Crdless/Battery Lamps maximizes the available pwer even during the early mrning and late afternn r evenings, t harvest as much pwer a pssible, but fr maximum pwer, mid-day use is the best. What is the pririty f pwer usage frm a slar panel? First pririty is t charge the batteries f the lamp. Secnd pririty is t turn n the lamp withut using pwer frm the batteries. Third pririty is t charge a USB device. Hw d I knw hw much pwer is being supplied by the slar panel? The Lamp mnitrs the pwer frm the slar panel. When there is full pwer during the battery charging, the Yellw status LED will remain n slid. 8

If the lamp is turned n r a USB device is plugged in while the batteries are being charged, and if there is nt enugh pwer frm the slar panel t pwer all functins, the Yellw status LED will blink at a medium rate r at fast rate (the faster it blinks the less pwer there is cming frm the slar panel) and all available pwer will g the charging the batteries. This means that if the lamp is turned n, it will be turn ff autmatically, and if a USB device is charging, the charging f that device will stp. During charging f the batteries, r peratin f the lamp, r charging f a USB device, if the Yellw status LED changes frm being n slid t blinking, then the InteliEnergy Crdless/Battery Lamps is sensing reduced pwer utput frm the slar panel. When this cnditin ccurs, please check yur slar panel. Perhaps shade frm an bject, like a tree r a building, has passed ver the slar panel and the slar panel nw needs t be mved. Or perhaps due t the mvement f the sun, the slar panel is n lnger facing directly int the sun and needs t be repsitined. When the pwer frm the slar panel is reduced and the Yellw status LED is blinking, with LFP batteries, the InteliEnergy Crdless/Battery Lamps will guide all available pwer t the batteries, disallwing the lamp t be turned n. This will prvide fr fast charging the batteries even in reduced pwer cnditins. Can I upgrade t a larger slar panel t get mre pwer? Yes, InteliEnergy Crdless/Battery Lamps use standard 12VDC slar panels. Larger slar panels can be used and t gain mre pwer. Purchase the ptinal S15CABLE t cnnect a standard 12V slar panel t an InteliEnergy Lamp. Can I add anther slar panel t get mre pwer? Yes, InteliEnergy Crdless/Battery Lamps use standard 12VDC slar panels. Mre pwer can be btained by wiring multiple slar panels in parallel. Purchase the ptinal SYCABLE t pwer ne lamp frm tw slar panels. This cable includes the right kind f cnnectrs t plug in slar panels supplied by Elevate Technlgies Crpratin t InteliEnergy Crdless/Battery Lamps. Simply plug each slar panel int each f the jacks, and insert the plug end f the cable int the jack n the InteliEnergy Crdless/Battery Lamp.
