Salter Collection consists of 47,021 items including railroad related photographs, negatives, slides, timetables/schedules, maps, posters, books including Official Guides, correspondence and model trains of various scales. The family of the late David W. Salter donated his collections to the Southern Museum in May 2010. Single photocopies are available for research purposes only for a nominal fee. Sallie Loy, Richard Hillman, Daniel Pete and volunteers processed these photographs in 2010-2011. Description: This series consists of photographs of Graham County Railroad/ Railway steam locomotives, consists, broken rails, etc. Descriptions are representative samples in the collection and not detailed entirely as to their contents. 1 st shot of day taken from the rear platform of the caboose a few miles south of Robbinsville, North Carolina on run to Junction in November 1964. Similar to many views of steam days looking back at the track where smoke hovered over the rails. Photo # 2033 Nantahala Gorge for a weather forecast although the Gorge was filled with clouds (fog) the Graham County s line was above the clouds and just below where photo was taken in November 1964.
