Selecting tires that do not have sufficient capacity can cause unnecessary or abnormal tire wear and/or possible tire blowouts. For your future reference when ordering parts, record the serial number of your gear in the space below. (Serial number is located on right hand side of front assembly.) NOTE: Due to continuing improvements in the design and manufacture of our products, and normal changes in the marketplace, all specifications contained herein are subject to change without notice. -2-

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PURCHASE! Please fill out and retain this portion for your records. For warranty consideration, please contact dealer where purchased. The serial number plate is located on the front of the front frame of the RUNNING GEAR Product Serial Number Date of Purchase Dealer City State Zip Please supply this information when you have questions or when ordering repair or replacement parts. Your dealer needs this information to give you prompt, efficient service. SAFETY REMEMBER: THINK SAFETY A CAREFUL OPERATOR IS THE BEST INSURANCE AGAINST AN ACCIDENT! OM-00229-A No accident-prevention program can be successful without the wholehearted cooperation of the person who is directly responsible for the operation of the equipment. To read accident reports from all over the country is to be convinced that a large number of accidents can be prevented only by the operator anticipating the result before the accident is caused and doing something about it. No power-driven equipment, whether it be transportation or processing, whether it be on the highway, in the harvest field, or in the industrial plant, can be safer than the man who is at the controls. If accidents are to be prevented--and they can be prevented--it will be done by the operators who accept the full measure of their responsibility. It is true that the designer, the manufacturer, and the safety engineer can help; and they will help, but their combined efforts can be wiped out by a single careless act of the operator. It is said that, "the best kind of a safety device is a careful operator." We ask that you be that kind of operator. -3-

SAFETY AVOID POSSIBLE INJURY Always use proper safety precautions. Most accidents are a result of failure to practice safety. Accidents cause lost time and suffering. Do not operate your RUNNING GEAR without thoroughly reading this manual. Follow all safety precautions as outlined in this manual and in the tractor operator's manual. All machinery should be operated only by those who are experienced, responsible, and have been delegated to do so. Do not exceed the gross load capacity of the running gear. BEFORE OPERATING Always make certain everyone and everything is clear of the machine before beginning operation. Always shut tractor engine off and remove key from ignition before working on implement. When hitching the wagon to the tractor, back the tractor past the clevis. Then move it slowly forward so that, in making the connection, the tractor will be moving away from you. Avoid working under an implement; however, if it become absolutely unavoidable, make sure implement is safely blocked. Do not wear loose fitting clothes, as they may catch on moving parts. Do not grease or oil equipment while it is in operation. Be sure the tires are inflated to the recommended pressure. Be sure all hardware is tight and drawbar pin is properly installed with safety lock. DURING OPERATION Do not allow anyone to ride on the RUNNING GEAR. Make sure everyone is clear before operating the machine or tractor. Regulate speed to field conditions. Maintain complete control at all times. -4- Use extreme care when operating close to ditches, fences or on hillsides. Do not leave tractor or implement unattended with engine running. Never attempt to operate any implement unless you are in the driver's seat. Do not dismount from a moving tractor. Do not disconnect the RUNNING GEAR from tractor until the wheels have been blocked to prevent unit from rolling. BEFORE TRANSPORTING Before towing unit(s), use a tow vehicle with the gross weight equal to, or greater than the gross weight of all the equipment being pulled. Be sure the load is well balanced on RUN- NING GEAR to insure proper trailing. Secure transport chain to RUNNING GEAR tongue and to the tractor drawbar before transporting. When pulling several units, secure with transport chain between each unit. Make sure that all safety decals, SMV emblem, and reflectors are clean and in place on the machine. Latch the tractor brake pedals together before transporting. Lock the tractor drawbar on center and secure the hitch pin to prevent drawbar movement or loss of transport pin. Comply with state and local laws governing highway safety when moving machinery. Use accessory lighting or warning lights when transporting at night to adequately warn operators of other vehicles. Be sure tongue latch is locked into position before transporting to prevent inadvertent extension of hitch. DURING TRANSPORT Use good judgement when transporting implements on highway. Maintain complete control at all times. Regulate speed to road conditions. Maximum speed of vehicle with implements should never exceed 20 m.p.h. and then only under ideal road and traffic conditions.

SAFETY Be sure RUNNING GEAR is trailing straight to maintain full control. If unit is swaying or whipping side-to-side, stop operation and check for proper tire pressure, even load distribution, worn, loose or damaged steering or frame components, repair immediately. Drive at speeds slow enough to insure your safety as well as others. Regulate speed during off highway travel. Do not travel faster than 10 m.p.h. COMPLY WITH ALL SAFETY WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS IN THIS MANUAL, AND IN TRACTOR OPERATOR'S MANUAL. Slow down before making sharp turns or using the brakes. Drive slowly over rough ground, side hills, and around curves to avoid tipping. -5-

OPERATIONS SECTION I OPERATIONS LOAD CAPACITY The following models are designed to operate with a total maximum gross load of... Model 80 = 16,000 lbs. Model 100 = 20,000 lbs. Model 120 = 24,000 lbs. Model 130/130B = 26,000 lbs. Gross load is the combined weight of the RUNNING GEAR, wagon box or bed, and the material being hauled. Net load is the weight of the material being hauled. Operator safety and RUNNING GEAR life will depend on the correct combination of load weight, tire load capacity and tire inflation. RUNNING GEAR rating is the maximum recommended gross load for the wagon gear when the tire load capacity is greater than the RUNNING GEAR capacity. When the tire load capacity is less than the RUNNING GEAR rating, the tire load capacity becomes the maximum recommended gross load of the unit. TRACTOR BALLAST Refer to your tractor operator's manual for correct amount of weights or ballast to be used with towed vehicles. Before towing unit(s), use a tow vehicle with the gross weight equal to, or greater than the gross weight of all the equipment being pulled. TRACTOR DRAWBAR Before attaching the RUNNING GEAR to any tractor drawbar, be sure the drawbar is pinned and locked on center and the drawbar pin is a safety lock pin of proper size. TRANSPORT CHAIN Secure the transport chain to the RUNNING GEAR tongue and to the tractor drawbar before transporting. When pulling several units, secure with a transport chain between each unit. CHECKING WHEEL BOLTS Wheel bolts must be tightened after the wagon has been in use a short time and should be checked periodically thereafter to ensure they are tightened to torque chart. CHECKING CHASSIS Periodically, check all bolts and connections, especially before operating on the highway. Looseness in the reach, steering mechanism, or coupling pole may cause the RUNNING GEAR to sway or whip, repair or replace any worn or damaged components immediately. TIRE INFLATION Be sure the tires are inflated to the recommended pressure per tire manufacturers specifications. LOAD DISTRIBUTION Be sure the load is well balanced on the RUNNING GEAR to insure proper trailing. Poor load distribution will cause improper trailing of the wagon. For best trailing results, the load must be evenly distributed between the front and rear axles and between the lefthand and right-hand sides. ADJUSTABLE QUICK HITCH TONGUE The adjustable quick hitch tongue permits the RUNNING GEAR to be hooked-up to the tractor safely. Position the tractor in-front of the RUNNING GEAR. Lift the tongue and extended body to attach the tractor drawbar. Back the tractor up to the re-latch tongue. TONGUE LENGTH For 80, 100, and 120 model Running Gears, to adjust the tongue length, simply lift up on tongue latch handle and extend completely. See Fig. 3-4, page 13. For the 130 model Running Gear, adjust the tongue length by lifting up on the latch handle and extending inner body to desired length. Remove the capscrew and stop nut securing the latch handle to the inner tongue body, move latch handle into new hole location and replace hardware to attain desired length. ADJUSTING WHEELBASE To adjust wheelbase, remove the capscrews, (flatwashers), and stop nuts, holding the coupling pole to the axle frames. Slide the coupling pole / axle frames to the desired setting. Replace hardware and tighten. -6-

OPERATIONS TRANSPORT CHAIN NOTE: Select transport chain based on gross weight being towed, adding total of all wagons. NOTE: When towing two wagons, wrap the chain of second wagon around the rear axle of the first wagon and secure. Allowing no more slack than necessary, attach transport chain by inserting chain link between underside lugs on tongue and attach using pin (108049) and secure with two spiral pins (91144-167). Use only pin provided. Use intermediate support, see Fig. 1-2. Do not use the intermediate support as the attaching point. Store transport chain by wrapping or laying on tongue, not allowing chain to rest on ground. Chain is more sensitive to rusting or pitting and should be inspected prior to each use. Do not weld or attempt to repair chain, chain must be replaced. SERVICE SECTION II SERVICE ADJUSTING WHEEL TOE-IN FIG. 2-1 IMPORTANT: After first use, recheck toe-in. Front wheel toe-in has been preset at the factory. If adjustment becomes necessary, use the following procedure. 1. Place the tongue in a straight and horizontal position. This can be checked by measuring reference lines "A" and "B". These measurements are the same when the tongue is straight forward. OM-00221A 3. If not, loosen both nuts on each tie rod and turn the tie rod to increase or decrease its length. When desired adjustment is reached, tighten nuts on tie rods. NOTE: Tie rods must be adjusted equally, so that dimension "C" is the same on both sides. 2. Measure the distance between the front wheels at the centerline of the tires, Front (F) and Rear (R). Measurement "R" should be 1/8" to 3/8" longer than measurement "F" for proper toe-in. -8-

SERVICE MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS For running gear and bearing longevity, as well as ease of operation, periodic lubrication is essential. This also helps to flush out moisture and dirt. GREASE GUN LUBE POINTS Tongue Hitch Pin (End of Steering Hinge) - 1 Point Steering Hinge Pin (Front of Front Frame) - 1 Point Spindle Bearings (Both Ends of Front Axle) - 2 Points LUBE CYCLE Grease Once/Year Grease Once/Year Grease Once/Year MISCELLANEOUS LUBE POINTS Extension Part of Extendable Tongue Wheel Bearing - 8 Points Oil or Grease When Needed Repack Grease Yearly After first use: 1. Recheck toe-in. Tie rods -- adjust to minimum 1/8" toe in (1/8" to 3/8" toe measured at tires). Periodically during usage, check the following: 1. Tongue pivot pin. 2. Tie rod connections at radius arm and at steering hinge. 3. Coupling pole bolt and nuts. 4. Tire pressure -- follow manufacturer's specification (too high or too low pressure causes abnormal tread wear). 5. Beveled wheel bolts -- torque to 112 ft. lbs. After each season: 1. Check welds on front and rear axles to coupling pole and to hounds. 2. Tie rods -- adjust to minimum 1/8" toe in (1/8" to 3/8" toe measured at tires). 3. It is recommended for improved tire life that tires be rotated diagonally. NOTE: It is recommended that gravity boxes used with this gear be bolted through front stakes only. For applications involving extensive road travel, it is recommended to bolt 4 corners. CAUTION! WHEN MOUNTING GRAVITY GRAIN BOX TO WAGON, ALL FOUR CORNERS OF BOX SHOULD BE BOLTED TO GEAR. FAILURE TO COMPLY MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO BOX OR GEAR. CAUTION! THIS RUNNING GEAR IS DESIGNED FOR AGRICULTURAL USE AND SHOULD NOT BE TOWED IN EXCESS OF 20 M.P.H. SLIDING HITCH AND LATCH The braking system on your running gear is designed to release automatically when you back-up. Before adjusting individual brake shoes, inspect the master cylinder push plate and put tube adjustment screw for proper contact when the sliding hitch and latch mechanism are compressed. If necessary, adjust the setscrew for a 1/4" gap in the normal free position (Fig. 2-2). Be sure to retighten jam nut. BRAKE SYSTEM FIG. 2-2 OM-02896-9-

BE SURE TO GREASE BEARINGS AND OIL ALL MOVING PARTS AFTER THE UNIT HAS DRIED. AT THE END OF THE SEASON, WHEN UNIT IS TO BE STORED, REMOVE THE BRAKE DRUMS AND CLEAN INSIDE THE BRAKES. PACK THE WHEEL BEARING BEFORE DRUM IS INSTALLED. CAUTION! DO NOT PACK HUB FULL OF GREASE. EXCESSIVE GREASE MAY LEAK INTO BRAKE DRUMS CAUSING BRAKE FAIL- URE. MASTER CYLINDER Brake fluid level may be checked by removing the cap on the master cylinder. Refill level with a heavy-duty brake fluid that meets or exceeds DOT-3. Do not clean any brake components in gasoline, kerosene, or oil. BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTMENT Brakes are set at the factory, however, it may become necessary to adjust shoes after first season. The brakes incorporate a "Back-up" feature that makes it necessary to rotate the wheels in the direction of forward rotation only when making adjustments. Jack-up each wheel, turn adjustment cog wheel located in slot on the brake backing plate until you cannot rotate the wheel by hand, then backoff the adjustment 1-1/2 turns (20 cogs/ notches). NOTE: Always rotate drum in direction of forward rotation only. IMPORTANT: Maintain brake fluid level in master cylinder. Adjust brake shoes as necessary. Purge air from lines if necessary. BRAKE BLEEDING Use ONLY quality DOT-3 heavy-duty brake fluid. If pressure bleeding equipment is available follow the manufacturer's instructions in bleeding the system. MANUAL BLEEDING Fill master cylinder with fluid. Bleed brakes first (farthest from master cylinder). Loosen the bleeder screw located in wheel cylinder one turn. The system is now open to the atmosphere through a passage drilled in the screw. Securely install bleeder hose to bleed screw on first wheel cylinder to be bled.
