Air Brake Check Inside Cab Start air test Place chock block against down hill side of the rear wheel Prior to starting engine, pump service brakes until air gauges read about 70 80 psi Start engine Max air Build air pressure to maximum 120 to 130 psi (at idle) Governor cut out When air pressure stops rising (at idle) air dryers may release Give reading for both primary and secondary air gauges The maximum cut out pressure is 130 psi Governor cut in Pump service brake pedal slowly (push and hold for 3 seconds, then release and wait for 4 seconds, then repeat if necessary) until governor cuts in. The minimum cut in pressure is 85 psi. Continually watch air gauge needles for upward movement. If gauges do not move upward (governor cut in), continue to pump brakes slowly (as above) release about 5 psi each time until governor cuts in. The gauges will start to move upward Give reading for both primary and secondary air gauges Build air back to maximum

Static air Test 2/60 single vehicle Place vehicle in low gear (manual shift transmission) Place vehicle in neutral (Automatic Shift transmission) Shut down engine (turn off engine) Release emergency / parking brakes Wait for system to settle Note and verbalize Primary and Secondary air gauges Time 1 minute (60 seconds) Gauges should not drop more than 2 psi / 60 seconds = single vehicle

Applied air test 3 / 60 single vehicle With emergency / parking brakes still released Apply and hold service brake pedal for 1 minute Wait for system to settle Note and verbalize primary and Secondary air gauges Time 1 minute (60 seconds) Note and verbalize Primary and Secondary air gauges Gauges should not drop more than 3 psi / 60 seconds = single vehicle

Low air warning Turn on key / ignition DO NOT start engine Pump service brake pedal slowly (above) until LOW AIR buzzer / light activates Note and verbalize Primary and Secondary air gauges Should activate at between the minimum and maximum of 55 psi to 75 psi above Pop out test Emergency valve check (older vehicles will be pulled in) Pump service brakes pedal slowly (as above) until emergency valve pops out Emergency activation should be around 45 psi and no less than 20 psi Note and verbalize Primary and Secondary air gauges

Air recovery Start engine Bring engine to 1200 RPM Build air pressure to 85 psi Verbalize start time Build air pressure to 100 psi at 1200 RPM Verbalize stop time Note air should build and recover within 45 seconds from 85 psi to 100 psi at 1200 RPM This will assure that the air compressor is building air at the normal rate

Tug test Remove chock block Buckle seat belts Build air pressure to maximum (cut out) Apply emergency brakes valve only release all other brakes For manual transmissions Put transmission in low gear Slowly release clutch Gently tug against emergency brakes For automatic shift transmissions Put transmission in D Drive Gently tug against emergency brakes Apply column (trolley / hand ) brake valve ONLY release all other brakes including emergency brakes

For manual shift transmission Transmission in low gear Slowly release clutch Gently tug against column brakes Release column (trolley / hand) brake For automatic transmissions Put transmission in D Drive Gently tug against column brakes Release column (trolley / hand ) brake

Service brake test For manual shift transmissions Put transmission in low gear Slowly release clutch start vehicle moving Lift hands from steering wheel Apply service brakes pedal sharply Note any movement left or right and equal adjustment of brakes For automatic shift transmissions Put transmission in D Drive Start vehicle driving Lift hands from steering wheel Apply service brake pedal sharply Note any movement left or right and equal adjustments of brakes
