A gluing fixture is a great aid to assembly. It helps hold parts square while gluing. 1x2 1x4 Instructions NOTE: Wash the parts before assembling with a dish washing detergent such as Dawn. Rub lightly with a soft sponge. This kit consists of resin castings and must be assembled with an ACC cement (not provided) both the thicker types as well as the thin. Solvent cements will NOT bond the parts together! Resin parts are more fragile than common styrene plastic used in injection molded models. Use reasonable care in handling and do not apply any solvents. The illustrations at the front show the general layout of parts for the car. Work very carefully when positioning the parts for gluing. ACC cements adhere very quickly and permanently. Gluing with ACC Cements USE WITH CARE ACC cements allow the modeler to work very quickly. A general rule is to use the thin cements to glue long joints taking advantage of capillary action that makes the cement run the length of the seam. The thicker cement is suited to applying large area parts to each other. An accelerator can be applied sparingly. One technique is to apply the glue to one part and the accelerator to the other part to be joined. I also use a Q-tip to apply a minute amount of accelerator to the glue after the parts have been joined. The accelerator triggers the ACC cement to set very quickly. It is only slightly slower with the thicker cement. WARNING Some parts have lead encapsulated within them. In the event the lead is exposed for any reason, do not allow it to remain on the skin. Dispose of any lead shavings that may result. Obey all safety precautions of all suggested cements and assembly materials.

CONCEPT MODELS BOLSTER ASSEMBLY 1 Mark the bottom ends of the Main Bolster (5) 3/16 from the ends and centered. Drill and tap for 2-56. 2 Assemble the End Truck Bolster (10) as shown. Make sure of the clearances as shown. 3 Assemble the Center Truck Bolster (10b & 10c) as shown. A 2-56 clear drill may be used as a pilot to align the pieces. File the edges where the parts are joined to obtain a smooth surface. Glue a 1/8 washer to the top of the assembly positioned over the hole if it is not already cast-on for you. (late change). 4 Assemble the bolsters as shown except the rear deck is only sitting for trial fitting. Add the 1/8 tube and a 1/8 hole washer. Make sure that all wheels engage the track. Shim as necessary to get good weight distribution.

CONCEPT MODELS 5 Assemble the hydraulic positioning assembly as shown using a 1/8 rod for alignment. When mounted the assembly top and bottom should be parallel to the track. 6 Install the Yoke Guides (20) as shown. 7 Install the Main Deck Bottom (21) as show. It will be necessary to cut away the Main Bolster edges to get the Main Deck bottom to fit.

CONCEPT MODELS 8 Cement the Main Deck Top (22) to the Main Deck Bottom (21) as shown. 9 Install the Propane Cylinders (23) on each side as shown. 10 Install the 4 Lift Ring Assemblies (6) to each of the inboard edge of the Main Bolster assembly as show..

CONCEPT MODELS 11 Install the Read Deck (7) by cementing to the End Truck Bolster (10) as shown. The must be clearance to allow the truck bolster to pivot without hitting the main bolster. 12 File the Power Plant Top (24) to fit inside the Power Plant Bottom. Gluing is optional. Glue the Power Plant Bottom (25) to the center of the Rear Deck (7) as shown. CONTROL CABS Castings are provided for the detail parts. The Cab Front (12) and the Cab Back (15) are glued between the left and right sides as shown. The remainder of the parts are styrene and identified by size )26,27, & 28). It is suggested that the cab not be installed until painted.

CONCEPT MODELS MAIN DECK ASSEMBLY 1 Glue The Left Girder (2) and the Right Girder (3) as shown. Make 2. 2. Rough the mating surfaces of the girder assembly and floor (1) before gluing or no cement will stick. Prop up the Floor (1) for the track clearance you want. Prototype says 4. (Good luck on that.) I used two sheet of.080 styrene for a prop since I run on modular railroads. If you re sure about the vertical changes in grades on your railroad, I suggest one sheet of.080 styrene for a prop. Make sure the faces are parallel and centered. Glue one end at a time into position. You may have to file the edges of the girder assembly to get a good fit. 3 Apply ACC cement as a filler as shown and allow to set completely. If you use an accelerator it will speed up the setting process. Fill any cracks with cement. I prefer to fill cracks with the thin cement by apply successive coats rather than use the gel ACC cement.

CONCEPT MODELS 4 Route slots for screws as shown. The screws should be located so that they intercept the floor centered. Use a 2-56 tap drill and two 2-56 x 3/8 screws to secure the girder ends to the floor. You may omit this step if you are sure of your glue work. 4 Glue the Floor Trim (4) to the sides of the Floor (1) as shown. 5 Draw guide lines from the center of the 1/8 hole to the junction of the Girder and the floor. Glue the Link Connectors (16) as shown. The Hydraulic Positioning Assembly is shown for aiming the lines toward the pivot point. 6 Using 3/32 tube, attached the Yoke Centering Links (11) Link Connector (16). This is a press fit. If too loose, apply ACC cement from the inside of the car where the 3/32 tube and the Link Connector meet. The Yoke Centering Links should be allowed to pivot.

CONCEPT MODELS 7 Suspend the girder assembly between the car ends. Making sure the hydraulic positioning assembly is parallel to the track, glue the girder/floor assembly to the the hydraulic position assembly.

CONCEPT MODELS FINAL ASSEMBLY 1 Fit the girder assembly to the car ends guiding the links into the Yoke Guide. 2 Assemble truck bolsters to main bolster using the screws as depicted in the photo below. PAINTING 1) If you followed the instructions for cleaning the parts before assembly, you are ready to paint. A primer such as Floquil s is recommended. Allow to dry overnight before proceeding with any of the color coats. 2) Apply a coat of white before painting either yellow or red. 3) Overcoat entire car with Testor s Glosscoat prior to decaling.

CONCEPT MODELS DECALS ARE ATTACHED HERE DECALING The decals provided are a very thin film decal film. Success with these decals depends on following these instructions. The glue used for the decal sheet is different than what has been used in the past. The water does not dissolve the glue. Water causes a chemical reaction causing an almost immediate release of the decal. For this reason once the decal has been wetted it must be used quickly. It cannot be re-wetted later for use. 1) Cut out the decal segment you are going to apply. 2) Dip the decal in warm water which has had 1 drop of DAWN kitchen detergent. Do not leave the decal to soak in the water and float away from the backing. 3) Slide the decal directly onto the wetted surface with a small brush. Position with the brush. Remove excess water with a tissue. 4) Top coat the decals with Testor s Dullcote for best results.
