BATTERY REPLACEMENT How do I install the new battery? 1. Always ensure the ignition is off before removing battery cables. 2. Always check bonnet clearance before installing any battery. 3. Locate the positive terminal and mark polarity on the cable. Remove the negative cable first. 4. Remove the positive terminal. Remove battery hold down bracket. 5. Inspect the tray for corrosion. If necessary, clean using baking soda and water. Rinse with clean water. 6. Place the new battery in the tray and ensure the battery is level and the terminal posts are in the same position as the old battery. 7. Replace the hold down bracket and ensure the battery is secure. 8. Replace the positive terminal and tighten. 9. Replace the negative terminal and tighten. The negative terminal should always be replaced last. 10. Never tighten or hammer the terminal onto the battery as this can damage the posts and battery cover. Handling batteries Always use care when transporting or installing lead acid batteries. Batteries are heavy. Lift carefully and do not place on unstable surfaces. Batteries contain acid. Do not tilt - Keep battery upright at all times. Keep acid away from clothing and skin. If contact occurs, flush with large amounts of water. If acid contacts eyes - seek medical attention immediately. Keep metal objects away from terminals. Batteries are recyclable. Old batteries should be returned to scrap recyclers.
