Participants from Thailand Sarun Apichontrakul Jaturong Som-ard Prapat Phongsawad Intareeya Sutthivanich Torlarp Kanplumjit Kanin Piriyakitpaiboon 2
Topics of Discussion 1. Current Situation of UAV technology in Thailand 2. How to Strengthen or enhance UAV image processing in Thailand 3. Potential / Opportunity for UAV projects in Thailand 4. Potential / Opportunity UAV projects for regional collaboration 3
1. Current Situation of UAV in Thailand In recent years, UAVs have seen an increase in usages throughout the country in both government and private sectors, such as Media and Entertainment Royal Irrigation Department Forestry Department Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand Education Institutes Survey and Mining companies Agriculture 4

Current UAV regulation in Thailand The latest legislation on UAV was issued in July 2015 by CAAT 11
Current UAV regulation in Thailand - UAV with camera or weight over 2 kg must be registered - Must not fly within 9 km of an airport - Must not fly over 90 m - Must not fly over restricted or government area without permission - The UAV must always be visible and in pilot s FOV - Must be at least 30 m away from persons and buildings 12
Difficulties and Obstacles Rules and regulations were written without considering surveying and researching purpose. Lack of knowledge and understanding of UAV technology on all levels Lack of standard quality for data acquisition and processing of UAV images Slow registration process Lack of knowledge sharing and resources on UAV technology 13
2. How to improve UAV image processing Establish a central agency to oversee UAV regulations, data quality standard, information and knowledge sharing, promoting of the technology Educate potential users on UAV technology on how it can aid their work and provide sufficient training Distinguish UAVs used in image processing and surveying from UAVs used in other fields (i.e. media and entertainment) Tools, data and knowledge sharing among agencies 14
Planned 3. Potential Future Projects Precision Agriculture and Smart farming Land mine detection Improvement in various surveying projects 15
Wish list 3. Potential Future Projects UAV and image processing for average people 3D model for historical sites and buildings Crime scene/event reenactment. Carbon footprint monitoring Rescue mission Flying Bug Zapper! 16
4. Potential Projects for regional collaboration Coastal monitoring Search and Rescue, disaster management Collaboration on developing regulations and data quality standard for UAV projects Tools and equipment regulations for different missions Create a library of 3D models for historical sites and buildings in the region 17
