Introduction Intended Use The Type S25500 Maxi Stirrer is designed to provide maximum torque for stirring viscous solutions and up to 5 gallons of aqueous solution within a speed range of 60 to 1050 rpm. The powerful 7.5 drive magnet can accommodate from to 6 stir bars. General Usage Do not use this product for anything other than its intended usage. Electrical Ratings S2555 120 Volt 1.4 Amps 160 Watts 50/60 Hz S2550-220-240 Volt 1.2 Amps 185 Watts 50/60 Hz Unpacking Carefully unpack the unit. Be sure the bench or work area where the stirrer is placed will be able to support the weight of the stirrer plus the weight of the vessel and its contents. For example, the weight of the stirrer is 40 Ibs., the weight of a 0-gallon container may be about 15 Ibs., and 0 gallons of aqueous solution will weigh 250 Ibs. The total weight would therefore be greater than 00 Ibs. Alternatively, of course, the stirrer may be placed on the floor where it is more convenient in using the larger sizes of vessels. 5

Operation Note Unlike smaller magnetic stirrers, the motor of a large magnetic stirrer can be overloaded. This will cause the 1-1/2 ampere SLO BLO fuses to blow or the motor to overheat. Any stir-bar up to 6-1/4 long and 1-1/16 in diameter may safely be used with the Maxi Stirrer without danger of overloading the motor. Warning Disconnect from power supply before servicing. Refer servicing to qualified personnel. Place the vessel with its contents atop the stirrer. Any stirbar from 2 to 6 long may be used. To stir larger volumes or viscous solutions at higher speeds, it may be necessary to gradually increase the stirring speed control. Maximum stirring speeds attainable will be determined by the length and diameter of the stir-bar, the material of the vessel, the bottom configuration of the vessel (a slight crown in the center is desirable) and, of course, the volume and viscosity of the solution. The extremely strong pull of the stirring magnet on the stir-bar can cause friction between the stir bar and vessel bottom resulting in reduced stirring speed. The configuration and vessel material can drastically vary the amount of friction and corresponding speed reduction. The speed control rheostat is a combination ON OFF switch and setting selector. The fully counterclockwise position is OFF, fully clockwise is maximum speed. To select a speed, turn the speed control knob clockwise until the desired mixing action is achieved. A separate ON OFF rocker switch is provided in the event a desired setting is to be reused. The rheostat may be left at the setting and the stirrer turned off and on by means of the rocker switch. 6

Maintenance General Cleaning Instructions Wipe exterior surfaces with lightly dampened cloth containing mild soap solution. 7
