MODEL TYPE SECTION/GROUP DATE E4500 / J4500 Series Coaches Service Information 22-Wheelchair Lift May 4, 2005 SUBJECT R ICON W HE E L CHAIR L IF T OPE R AT ION CONDITIONS Service Information Only Description: Effective with unit number 63017, MCI installed a new Ricon wheelchair lift on E4500 / J4500 model coaches. This bulletin will outline the wheelchair lift operating procedure and provide information on the threshold warning system. REFER TO MANUAL Refer to the MCI Operator s and Maintenance Manual, in conjunction with this procedure. The threshold warning system is located above the wheelchair parking ( threshold ) area ( Figure 1 ). The module status indicator light illuminates when the wheelchair lift is powered, indicating that the module is activated. Two acoustic sensors monitor the doorway threshold area. If the acoustic sensors detect a passenger in the thresholdarea;whenthe lift is below coach floor height and the cabin access door is open, an audible buzzer and flashing light are actuated. Service Bulletin No. 2905 DATE MAY 4, 2005 PAGE 1. Stop the coach, ensuring that there is adequate clearance to deploy the lift and to allow the passenger to maneuver onto the platform. 2. Place the transmission in NEUTRAL and set the Park Brake. 3. Turn ON the wheelchair lift master switch ( key ) on the side console ( Figure 2 ). The alarm will sound and the WCL INTERLOCK dash telltale in the RH telltale cluster will illuminate. Figure 2. WCL Master Switch. 4. Fold and position passenger sliding seats to provide wheelchair parking area. 5. Remove the key and exit the coach. 6. Open the wheelchair lift compartment door. Place the steel pin through the two holes in the lower hinge, to lock the door in the open position ( Figure 3 ). 7. Open the handrails by applying downward pressure and swinging open the wheelchair lift handrails 90 degrees. lower hinge pin location Figure 3. 8. Remove the wcl control pendant ( Figure 3 ) from the platform. Turn the power enable switch ON ( limit switches will release the air locks on the cabin access door ). An air exhaust will be heard by the operator. 9. Place the wcl control pendant into the secondary clip on the lift post, ensuring that the cable will not be caught or pinched during deployment ( Figure 3 ). 2
DATE MAY 4, 2005 PAGE 3 10. Grab the top of the platform and apply enough force to pull down the wheelchair lift, releasing it from the magnetic catch ( Figure 4 ). The platform folds out in two sections. 11. Lift the second section of the ramp platform and pull it over 180 degrees. Raise the outer barrier of the ramp to the vertical and locked position ( Figure 4 ). The platform will not raise or lower unless the outer barrier is in the vertical and locked position. Figure 4. Reference photo. 12. Exhaust the door locks and actuating cylinder on the cabin door by placing the air dump valve to the release position ( Figure 5 ). 13. Reach into the compartment and push the manual latch handle upwards to release the cabin door (Figure 5). latch handle location air dump valve Figure 5. 14. Press and hold the DEPLOY button, on the wcl control pendant, until the lift is fully extended from the compartment. 15. When the passenger is ready to board, grasp the edge of the cabin door and open it fully. Switch the LOCK/UNLOCK toggle at the end of the heat duct to LOCK.
DATE MAY 4, 2005 PAGE 4 The WCL Control Pendant contains a POWER ENABLE switch and four buttons ( Figure 6 ). Turning ON the POWER ENABLE switch provides power to the pendant and illuminates the DEPLOY, STOW, UP and DOWN buttons. To operate a button, press and hold until the function completes. Movement of the platform can be halted at any time by releasing the button. The power indicator, located on the POWER ENABLE switch, illuminates only when the lift is operating and receiving power. The platform will not raise or lower unless the outer barrier is in the vertical and locked position. 1. Position the wheelchair in the center of the platform with the rear wheel on the main platform. Lock the wheelchair brakes. Fasten the safety restraint belt. 2. Press and hold the DOWN button, on the wcl control pendant, until the lift is at ground level. 3. Manually lower the outer barrier, allowing it to rest on the ground. RAISING THE WHEELCHAIR LIFT 1. Position the wheelchair in the center of the platform with the rear wheel on the main platform. Lock the wheelchair brakes. Fasten the safety restraint belt. 2. Raise the outer barrier of the ramp to the vertical and locked position. 3. Press and hold the UP button, on the wcl control pendant, until the lift is level with the cabin door floor height.
