Where a minibus trailer combination is used you can drive with a trailer over 750Kg MAM. documents above, 11 Driver incompetence resulting in RTA Please note: Before 1 st Jan 97 drivers holding group A, B and D1 can drive minibuses as long as the are over 21 and the minibus has a maximum of 17 seats, including the driver and is not being used for hire or reward. Otherwise you will need a PCV licence. a) Driver holds a valid driving licence. b) OC is to ensure that relatively new drivers are not to drive cadets. Eg Cadets or staff who has recently passed their test. (Two years driving experience as a minimum, over 21 years old). c) Ensure the minibus does not have more than 16 passengers. d) t hire or reward. e) Gross weight of minibus not more than 3.5 tonnes. f) Drivers over 70 years old need to make special application to DVLA. If you don t have a D1 license you may still drive a minibus so long as you meet the criteria laid down in 11a to f. 5-B-5
