Safety Infrmatin 1. T avid pssible injury, befre perating this cleaner, read this manual fr full perating instructins. Als see the pump manufacturer's manual prvided with yur cleaner. 2. Always blck the wheels f the cleaner t prevent unintentinal rlling. Even when empty, sme mdels weigh mre than 1,500 punds. Accidental rlling culd cause injury r prperty damage. 3. Wear eye gggles t prtect yur eyes frm splashing liquids. This is imprtant, even when yu knw the fluids themselves are nt caustic r therwise harmful. Metal particles suspended in the liquid culd still cause serius eye injury. 4. Check hse, nzzle, cleaning tl and hse cap cnnectins fr leaks. T minimize chances f spilling, handle cleaning tls and hses carefully during peratin. Replace hses befre deteriratin results in leaks. 5. Immediately clean up any spilled clant t avid slippery flrs and dangerus falls. 6. If it is necessary t use the cleaner in an aisle r ther traffic area, psitin it s as t minimize the likelihd f being struck by trucks, frklifts r ther equipment in transit. Exercise a reasnable lkut fr such hazards during peratin. 7. Whenever remving r reseating the filter basket (maximum capacity is 800 punds), keep hands and fingers ut frm under the basket lip. 8. Keep clear frm beneath the basket when pening the trapdr. Use tls f apprpriate strength and length t let yu perfrm these peratins safely. 9. Frequently check the basket s histing rings fr signs f rust. If the rings are heavily crrded, replace the basket with a new ne. 10. Be sure the suctin inlet ball valve is fully clsed befre perating the cleaner in the discharge mde. The tank is pressurized in this mde, smetimes t as much as 7 PSI. 11. After perating engine-driven units (LP gas r gasline) in the discharge mde and befre stpping engine, turn the SUCTION/DISCHARGE lever t the SUCTION psitin. The engine will SPEED UP mmentarily and then SLOW DOWN. When the engine has slwed dwn and begun t labr, the engine switch may be turned OFF and the suctin inlet ball valve pened. 12. Observe NO SMOKING rules when perating a gasline r LP gas engine mdel. Operate nly in adequately ventilated areas. 13. DO NOT use this unit fr slvents, flammable (lw flash pint), r ther vlatile liquids. Use it nly fr water-sluble clants and fr cutting r grinding ils. 14. PRESSURIZATION SAFETY ISSUES. Yur unit is designed t perate under pressure when discharging fluids. The ptimal safe perating pressure is 5 t 7 PSI and yur unit was set at the factry t perate in this range. Yur unit shuld never be perated at pressures in excess f 15 PSI. Tanks r vessels which are pressurized beynd 15 PSI require special certificatin as High Pressure Vessels and this has nt been certified fr such high pressure peratin. Operating a at pressures abve 15 PSI creates a serius risk f injury t wrkers and damage t prperty. WARNING Altering Or Mdifying Safety Regulating Features May Result In The Tank Becming Over Pressurized. Over Pressurizatin May Cause The Explsive Rupture Of The Tank Resulting In Serius Injury Or Death T Wrkers And Damage T Prperty. Mdifying r intentinally altering these imprtant safety features will cnstitute the intentinal misuse f the equipment, viding all warranties. 15. Temperature limit is 150 F (the limit f the suctin and discharge hses). 16. Push-arund units (thse equipped with large diameter wheels in the middle f the tank and swivel casters at bth ends) are NOT designed fr twing. If they must be mved lng distances within a plant, pick up the unit with a frklift truck using the brackets prvided n the sump cleaner. 3

Safety Infrmatin (cnt.) 17. This equipment is t be perated and maintained by authrized persnnel nly. 18. MAGNESIUM CHIPS OR DISSIMILAR METALS In the presence f water, magnesium can release highly flammable hydrgen gas. In the prper prprtins with air, it can be explsive. When a is used n a metalwrking fluid applicatin generating magnesium chips, certain precautins must be taken t ensure that any hydrgen gas is dissipated int the atmsphere and t make sure the hydrgen des nt accumulate in the. This is accmplished by prmptly remving any magnesium chips frm the sump cleaner basket. Als, a maintenance schedule shuld be established by the custmer that wuld eliminate buildup f sludge in the bttm f the. Finally, the unit shuld be stred in a clean cnditin with basket empty f chips, the sump cleaner twer lid remved, the clant discharge nzzle(s) remved, and hses pened t the atmsphere (n single and twin cmpartment units). Taking these precautins will minimize the risk f hydrgen gas generatin and accumulatin. On an applicatin where dissimilar metals are machined, there is a chance fr spntaneus cmbustin t ccur. Typically, metalwrking facilities that machine varius metals are aware f this and may have experienced prblems in chip hppers due t the presence f tw r mre metals, water, and tramp il. The precautins mentined in the previus paragraph will minimize r eliminate the ptential fr spntaneus cmbustin. 19. The cleaner is t be adjusted and/r repaired nly by qualified service persnnel. If these persnnel need mre infrmatin than is prvided in this manual, they shuld cntact Eriez HyrdrFlw at 814-520-8540. Operatr Safety and Cnvenience Features Safety Features Althugh sump cleaners are inherently safe machines, they pse the ptential fr hand and finger injury when the peratr remves the filter basket frm the unit t empty it f chips and sludge. Fr this reasn, Eriez HydrFlw has tw safety features which are unique t their s. Filter basket safety guides autmatically center the filter basket within the unit s basket supprt twer as it is being histed ut f the machine. This eliminates the need fr the peratr t physically guide the heavy, full basket as it is being elevated and significantly reduces the pprtunity fr the peratr t receive hand injuries. Basket trapdr release cables enable the peratr t empty the filter basket (the basket can hld up t 800 punds f chips) frm a safe distance withut the need fr special tls. The basket is remved frm the unit, psitined ver a chip hpper r similar receptacle, and the cntents are released thrugh the basket bttm by the peratr pening the trapdr with a sharp pull n the release cable. During the entire peratin, the peratr is a safe distance away. Cnvenience Features Lw rlling resistance, high maneuverability design: s feature high impact, fiber reinfrced, hard plastic casters and wheels fr lw rlling resistance, whether the unit is empty r full. The standard wheel cnfiguratin places the main wheels in the unit s middle and swivel casters n each end fr high maneuverability. A pivts within its wn length while tricycle gear units swing in duble their length. Clamped basket lids make lid remval and replacement much faster and easier than it is with the screw clamps used n ther makes f sump cleaners. Easy Lift Chip Basket Lid allws the lid t easily and safely lift up and ut f the way t allw access t the chip basket. External, leak-prf, rund cleanut drs are faster and easier t remve and replace than the val, internal manhles used by ther manufacturers. The thick, pliable gasket bnded t the cleanut dr virtually eliminates leaks. Frklift truck brackets are standard n all pusharund s s that the unit can be safely and easily picked up and mved lng distances. 4

(Standard design units are nt intended t be twed. Special wheel designs are available at extra cst fr units which the custmer desires t tw.) Smth radius basket suctin inlet virtually eliminates suctin hse chip jams. Flat switch verfill prtectin virtually eliminates pump damage and clant spills by autmatically shutting dwn the sump cleaner s mtr when the tank is full. Operating Tips When vacuuming ut the machine, put the s have been designed t make the jb f prper machine tl clant sump cleaning as easy as pssible fr the peratr f the sump cleaner. They have the pwer necessary fr true, high-perfrmance sump cleaning. They will vacuum frm the sump anything that will pass thrugh its tw inch diameter suctin hse and it will vacuum up water sluble clant at nearly 100 gallns per minute. At the same time, all s are designed with peratr safety and ease f peratin and maintenance as fremst cnsideratins. Althugh the units are designed fr peratr safety, befre using the sump cleaner fr the first time (and peridically thereafter fr a review), read the sectin f this Operatr s Manual entitled Safety Infrmatin, pages 3-4. Operating Efficiency Tips Here are sme tips t imprve the perating efficiency f yur sump cleaner: Fllw the sump cleaner s maintenance schedule carefully. Preventive maintenance is much less expensive than majr repairs. Clean yur sump cleaner (r just the filter tank f a twin cmpartment unit) nce a mnth r whenever sludge r fines have becme nticeable in the bttm f the tank. Rinse the unit with plain water and drain it cmpletely by remving the drain plug whenever changing frm ne brand r type f clant t anther. There can be cmpatibility prblems with sme prducts, s avid cntaminatin. (Remember t replace the plug.) It is better t have ne sump cleaner fr use with water sluble clants and anther fr use with cutting ils. If yu must use ne unit fr bth, the sump cleaner must be thrughly cleaned when switching prducts. If at all pssible, purchase a filter basket and a set f hses fr each prduct. (The sump cleaner tank is nt t hard t clean, but the hses and filter basket are.) Organize yur machine pumping schedule s that during ne week yu are pumping machines running water slubles and the next week yu are pumping machines running cutting ils. This minimizes cleaning the sump cleaner. cleaning tl n the bttm f the sump and remve clant and chips tgether. If heavy, deep sludge is in the machine sump (cast irn applicatins), remve the majrity f liquid. Take the cleaning tl and mix the remaining liquid with the sludge and then vacuum this mixture ut. D NOT alter the unit s vacuum relief valve settings. Yu will nt imprve yur sump cleaner s perfrmance and yu will vid its warranty. D NOT use yur unit fr slvents, vlatile r lw flash pint fluids f any type. It is designed fr use with clants, cutting ils, water sluble machine cleaning slutins and parts washing cmpunds nly. When pumping ut f flr pits yu can increase the efficiency by drilling a 1/4" hle in the cleaning tl belw where the hse is attached. By keeping this hle abve the fluid level, yu allw mre air t enter the hse which helps mve the fluid up the hse faster and pssibly allw pumping ut f deeper pits. If yu have any questins abut yur unit r its suitability fr a particular jb, please cntact Eriez HydrFlw at 814-520-8540. 7

The engine wn t start in the discharge mde if sump cleaner tank is full and the limit switch is nt clsed. Figure 5 Limit switch under the suctin/discharge lever B. Be sure the suctin inlet ball valve is fully clsed befre perating in the discharge mde. C. IMPORTANT! Be sure the suctin inlet ball valve is fully clsed r fully pen, depending n the desired peratin (clsed-discharge, pen-suctin). Failure t d s will allw particulate t enter the valve seat and seize the valve. 8. When fluid stps passing thrugh the hse, release pressure by shifting the SUCTION/ DISCHARGE lever t the hrizntal (SUCTION) psitin. This must be dne befre pening the inlet ball valve r remving tank lid, cleanut dr r drain plug. The engine will mmentarily SPEED UP and then SLOW DOWN and begin t labr. Once the engine has begun t labr, the engine may be switched OFF. Open the ball valve and turn OFF the gas bttle valve. 9. The cleaner will discharge all but abut an inch f fluid in the bttm f the cmpartment. This is unimprtant if the cmpartment is used fr ne type f clant nly. If different clants are invlved, remve the cmpartment s drain plug t empty it cmpletely. Replace drain plug after emptying. 10. T empty the filter basket: A. Remve twer lid. B. Attach lifting device t basket rings. CAUTION: All cmpnents used t lift basket (steel cable, hks, crane, etc.) must have a minimum capacity f 1000 punds. C. T avid the basket binding in the twer during remval, psitin the lifting pwer surce (e.g. crane) directly ver the center f the basket. D. Hist the basket. Keep hands and fingers clear. If the basket is binding and unable t lift freely, return (lwer) the basket t the sump cleaner twer. Repsitin the lifting device s that the basket exits the center f the twer. E. DO NOT TOUCH BASKET DURING REMOVAL. F. Psitin the basket ver the waste receptacle. G. Standing clear, pen the basket trapdr by pulling the lcking pin cable. H. Once the basket is empty, carefully clse the trapdr and slide the lcking pin int place. I. Check the filter sleeve. If it is badly siled r clgged, turn it inside ut and wash it in a suitable cleaner. Replace filter when necessary. (Refer t the MAINTENANCE sectin f this manual.) J. Inspect the basket histing rings fr signs f rust. Replace the basket with a new ne if the rings are heavily crrded. K. Keeping hands and fingers frm under the basket lip, reseat the basket in the tank and clamp dwn the tank lid. 9

Clse the suctin inlet valve V1, fully, attach 1-1/2" hse t the clean side inlet prt, remve the discharge nzzle frm the ther end f the 1-1/2" hse and attach it t a clean fluid tank, select Auxiliary psitin n the flat switch selectr tggle switch, and press SUCTION. B. IMPORTANT! Be sure the suctin inlet ball valve is fully clsed r fully pen, depending n the desired peratin (clsed-discharge, pen-suctin). Failure t d s will allw particulates t enter the valve seat and seize the valve. C. IMPORTANT! Be sure the tggle switch n the cntrl panel is in the Auxiliary psitin s the flat switch in the clean side will be in the suctin circuit t shut the unit ff when full. Failure t d s will allw the unit t verfill and spill fluid ut the mufflers nt the flr. D. As sn as fluid stps passing thrugh the hse, press the STOP buttn t turn ff the mtr. The cmpartment s maximum capacity is, at mst, 10% abve the rated capacity. The flat switch described in Paragraphs 3 and 4 abve, and lcated near the cmpartment suctin fitting, will shut ff the mtr if verfilling starts t ccur. 22

3-Phase Electric Dual Tank Operatin (cntd.) 9. T discharge clean fluid t refill a machine sump: clse the suctin inlet ball valve V1, attach the 1-1/2" hse t the discharge prt, place the discharge nzzle in the machine sump, push the DISCHARGE buttn, and depress the discharge hse nzzle valve. A. Be sure the suctin inlet ball valve is fully clsed befre perating in the DISCHARGE mde! B. IMPORTANT! Be sure the suctin inlet ball valve is fully clsed r fully pen, depending n the desired peratin (clsed-discharge, pen-suctin). Failure t d s will allw particulates t enter the valve seat and seize the valve. C. Stp the mtr as sn as fluid stps passing thrugh the hse. D. The sump cleaner will discharge all but abut an inch f fluid in the bttm f the cmpartment. This is unimprtant if the cmpartment cleaner is used fr ne type f clant nly. If different clants are t be handled in that cmpartment, remve its drain plug t empty it cmpletely. 3-Phase Maintenance Schedule W e e k l y M n t h l y 6 M n t h s 12 M n t h s Maintenance Schedule fr Electric Mtr s Maintenance Lg Date placed int service: Recrd date f service belw: Inspect suctin and discharge hses; replace as needed Inspect filter basket sleeve; replace as needed. Maintenance 1. Check the filter basket s plyprpylene mesh filter sleeve frequently. If it is badly siled r clgged, remve the retaining ring beneath the lifting rings, and take ff the gasket ver the basket s tp ring. Lift ut the sleeve, turn it inside ut and wash it in a suitable cleaner. 2. If the filter sleeve is trn, r if it is siled r clgged t the pint where simple cleaning is inadequate, replace the sleeve with a new ne (part number 60-1460). 3. T install a new sleeve: with the basket gasket and retaining ring remved, fit the sleeve inside the basket. Fld the tp edge ut ver the basket s tp ring, and snug dwn the gasket t hld the sleeve in place. Make tw small hles in the sleeve ver the basket s lifting rings. Pull the rings thrugh. Fit the retaining ring int the basket beneath the lifting rings and tighten it ut securely against the basket. 7. On 3-Phase electric and LP gas units, peridically check the pump il level and fill if required. (See the manufacturer s perating manual prvided with yur cleaner.) 8. On 3-Phase electric and LP gas units, grease the pump bearings at least every three mnths. Fr type f lubricant, see the recmmendatins in the manufacturer s perating manual prvided with this equipment. Lifting Ring Retaining Ring Tp Gasket 9. On LP units, peridically check the engine il level and fill if required. (See manufacturer s perating manual prvided with yur cleaner). 10. Peridically check hses fr deteriratin and replace with new nes if leaks have develped r appear imminent. Always cil hses prperly ver the supprts prvided when nt in use. 4. Frequently check the basket lifting rings fr signs f rust. If the rings becme badly crrded, replace the basket with a new ne. 5. If the filter sleeve is maintained in gd cnditin, nly fine particles shuld settle ut in the bttm f the tank. Remve these peridically by pening the drain plug and with the filter basket ut f the sump cleaner, flush the tank with a water hse. 6. Peridically, while the basket is ut f the tank, check the tank interir fr sludge buildup. If such a buildup starts t thicken, use an apprpriate tl t scrape it ff the tank walls and ut f the cleanut dr. 11. Other than the rutine maintenance peratins specified abve, adjustments and/r repairs t this equipment shuld be undertaken nly by authrized service persnnel. If these persnnel need mre infrmatin than is prvided in this manual, they shuld cntact Eriez HydrFlw at 814-520-8540. 24
