1 1. Solar Panels The Philips Site and Area Solar Solution integrates sturdy, highly efficient panels that convert solar energy into usable power. Three panel configurations are available. The system panel used will be configured specifically for your location and lighting needs, and is field adjustable to maximize access to solar energy based on location. 2 Solar Controls The Philips Solar controls manage the power distribution between the solar panel, battery, driver and the luminaire. The controls work together to collect electrical energy from solar panels, manage the energy to be stored in the batteries, and optimize the electrical power to the luminaire. The Solar controls have a built-in algorithm to selectively capture the maximum energy from the panels while incorporating thermal protection technology. How the System Works When the sun shines during the day, the solar panels convert solar energy to electrical energy, and stores it in the battery. At night, the battery is discharged, releasing electrical energy to power the LED luminaire and illuminate your site. 1 Solar Panel 3 Solar Battery Designed specifically for solar applications, our solar batteries are deep cycle and maintenance free. The batteries used are housed with the controls kit in a tamper-proof, vented steel enclosure that can be mounted on the top or center of the pole. When the battery is housed Electrical Energy from panel 4 LED Luminaire underground, the controls kit will be mounted on the center of the pole. 4 LED Luminaire Philips Solar luminaires use the latest in energy saving LED technology to maximize delivered lumens to the application, ensuring you get the most out of your investment. Five luminaire choices with a full range of high quality optical patterns are available to meet your aesthetic and lighting performance needs. 2 Solar Controls Electrical Energy Solar Pole from Battery Solar poles are designed and configured to the specific needs of your solar and luminaire system. As standard, all poles are constructed of 7 gage, round tapered steel and offered in 3 Solar Battery three heights: 18, 23 and 28 feet. Poles are able to withstand up to 90 MPH wind speeds with 1.3 gust factor. Please refer to the Solar Specification Sheet for detailed information on system components. 4 Philips Lighting

The Importance of Location Our Solar Powered LED Lighting Solutions are designed precisely for your conditions based on the geographical location of your installation. We will tailor the system components around your specific location to ensure you maximize the potential of your solar solution. The maps below indicate the different solar lighting zones in the United States and Canada. These zones were created by Philips based on sun-irradiation, and weather conditions throughout the year. Washington Montana Oregon Idaho Wyoming Nevada California Utah Colorado Arizona New Mexico North Minnesota Maine Dakota Vermont Hampshire New South Wisconsin Massachusetts Dakota New York Michigan Rhode Island Connecticut Nebraska Iowa Pennsylvania New Jersey Ohio Delaware Illinois Indiana West Maryland Kansas Virginia Virginia Missouri Kentucky North Oklahoma Arkansas Tennessee Carolina South Carolina Mississippi Georgia Texas Alabama Zone 1 Louisiana Zone 2 Florida Zone 3 Zone 4 Yukon Territory British Columbia Northwest Territories Alberta Saskatchewan Nunavut Manitoba Ontario Quebec New P.E.I. Brunswick Nova Scotia Newfoundland & Labrador Zone 5 Zone 6 Alaska Hawaii Evening Lighting Profiles Three different evening lighting profiles are available to provide the optimal and most efficient lighting solution based on your needs. Preset profile ranges are available that allow you to specify the percentage of light output and duration of your choice. The lighting profiles ensure that you minimize system costs, while maintaining desired light levels. Availability will vary by location. Dusk to Dawn Profiles The Dusk to Dawn lighting profiles will provide the percentage of light output you choose - from 45-95%. The solar panel acts as a photocell, and will communicate with the solar battery to provide lighting when the sun sets at dusk, until it rises again at dawn. Hourly Profiles The hourly profiles allow you to select the number of hours your system will be powered on, starting at dusk, with options ranging from 4-14 hours. Each profile will provide lighting at 100% output for the duration of your choice. Hourly Profiles with Dimming The most efficient set of lighting profiles offers bi-level dimming. After choosing your percentage of light output, the system will dim the light by 50% at the midpoint of the evening. The Solar components will automatically and continuously calculate the mid-point to ensure consistent high/low switching throughout the year. Optional Motion Response can be specified. 6 Philips Lighting Please refer to the Solar Specification Sheet for detailed information pertaining to lighting zones and profile limitations.
