PRESS RELEASE Date : 31.07.2011 Client : Oryx Engineering Solutions LLC Activity: Signing of JV between ABB and Oryx Energy Projects & Services for Electrical Motors & Generators Maintenance Services Oryx signs agreement with ABB to supply high quality Qatar-based electrical motor and generator maintenance services Doha 31 st July 2011 Oryx Energy Projects & Services of Qatar (Oryx) is pleased to announce the completion of an agreement with ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, that creates ABB Oryx Motors & Generators Service LLC (ABB Oryx M&G), a joint venture between the two companies that will provide a wide range of electrical motor and generator services to customers with operations in the oil, gas, water and energy sectors in Qatar and the surrounding Gulf and sub-saharan African regions. The agreement, which is the result of two and half years detailed discussion and meticulous development, was signed and sealed on the 7 th of July 2011 by Abdulla Ahmed Mannai, Chairman and Managing Director of Oryx, and Gus Abboud, Region Division Manager, ABB Discrete Automation and Motion, Middle East and Africa. The new joint venture will be based at the recently opened Oryx Engineering Solutions Centre (OESC) within the Ras Laffan Industrial City. This new purpose built facility which has a built up area close to 10,500m 2 of workshops, offices and training facilities is fully equipped with all the machinery needed to service a wide range of electrical motors and generators, including those manufactured and distributed by ABB. The OESC s location within Ras Laffan will do much to reduce the number of valuable service contracts currently leaving Qatar by making it possible for the needs of the many companies working in the country s expanding energy and water sectors to be met by locally-based services provided by ABB Oryx M&G. ABB s search for a joint venture partner began in 2007. Since then, Oryx has also been researching the market, looking for partners who could match their aims and ideals. The creation of ABB Oryx M&G is thus the culmination of several years exploration and examination of various options by both parties. The full scope of the joint venture includes the repair, servicing, commissioning, installation and maintenance of all brands of electrical motors and generators, including those manufactured and distributed by ABB. The work will be carried out either at the new ABB Oryx M&G dedicated workshop in the OESC or remotely on site at the customers operational locations. The on-site field services will cover the commissioning and installation of motors and generators together with preventive maintenance backed by ABB s Life Expectancy Analysis Program (LEAP). The offsite services offered will include preventative maintenance and the repair, refurbishment and upgrading of all brands of motors and generators. The overall service provided by ABB Oryx M&G will extend to the sale and delivery of spare parts and maintenance kits for the 4,000-plus ABB electrical motors and generators that have been installed by companies operating within the State of Qatar and other countries in the Middle East and sub-saharan Africa.
