Salter Collection consists of 47,021 items including railroad related photographs, negatives, slides, timetables/schedules, maps, posters, books including Official Guides, correspondence and model trains of various scales. The family of the late David W. Salter donated his collections to the Southern Museum in May 2010. Single photocopies are available for research purposes only for a nominal fee. Sallie Loy, Richard Hillman, Daniel Pete and volunteers processed these photographs in 2010-2011. Description: This series consists of photographs of various Virginian Railway steam locomotives. The Virginian Railway s line ran between Deepwater, West Virginia to Norfolk, Virginia and operated from 1907 1959. Descriptions are representative samples in the collection and not detailed entirely as to their contents.
