This manual provides a step-by-step guide to help you operate the meter, please carefully read the following instructions before use. Installing the Batteries Remove the battery compartment lid. Insert the three G13A batteries into the battery compartment, note polarity. Replace the battery compartment lid and turn clockwise until it is tight. Keypad Information INDEX: KEY MEAS/HOLD CAL FUNCTION Switches the tester ON/OFF. Locks the measured value, press the key again to resume measuring. Exits the calibration and returns to the measurement mode. Starts calibration. Press the key again to select the ph buffer options. ENTER Confirms the calibration or displayed option.
PHscan10S Pocket ph Tester 2 Prior to Use Remove the electrode protective cap from the tester. If the glass sensitive membrane on the electrode dries out, soak the electrode in 3M KCL solution or tap water for at least 15 minutes. DO NOT use distilled or deionized water, it will render the electrode useless. Glass Sensitive Membrane Preparing the ph Buffer Solutions Open the ph7.00 buffer packet, place the reagent into a 250ml volumetric flask. Pour the distilled water 250ml to scale line, mix the solution until the reagent is completely dissolved. Preparation of ph4.01 and 10.01 standard buffer solutions are the same as above. Prepared standard buffer solutions should be stored in hermetically sealed glass containers. Switching the Tester On and Off Press the Meas key to switch on the tester, the display shows measured value. Press and hold the Meas key for 5 seconds, the tester will switch off. If you do not press any key for 8 minutes, the tester will automatically switch off to conserve energy. Power On 5 sec. Power Off
PHscan10S Pocket ph Tester 3 ph Calibration PHscan10S pocket ph tester must be calibrated prior to first use or new electrode replaced. To ensure accuracy, regular calibration is recommended. DO NOT reuse the ph buffer solution after calibration, contaminants in solution will affect the calibration and eventually the accuracy of the measurement. 1. Rinse the electrode with distilled water. Press and hold the Cal key for 3 seconds, the display shows CAL 7-4. If necessary, press the Cal key again, the display shows CAL 10-7. 2. Select the ph buffer option you require. Press the Enter key, the tester shows first calibration point, ph7.00. 3. Place the electrode into the ph7.00 standard buffer solution, the end of the electrode must be completely immersed into the calibration solution. Stir the tester gently to create a homogeneous solution. 4. Press the Enter key, the tester begins the calibration. Wait for the reading to stabilize, the calibration value will flash three times indicating that the first calibration point is completed. The display automatically shows CAL 4 or CAL 10.
PHscan10S Pocket ph Tester 4 5. Rinse the electrode with distilled water. Place the electrode into the ph4.01 (or 10.01) standard buffer solution. Stir the tester gently. 6. Press the Enter key. Wait for the reading to stabilize, the calibration value will flash three times and the CAL icon disappears from the display. Calibration is completed. If you want to exit the calibration, press the Meas key, the tester will immediately return to the measurement mode. ph Measurement Rinse the electrode thoroughly with distilled water. Place the electrode into the sample solution, stir the tester gently. Record the measured value when the reading is stable. Data Hold During the measurement, press the Hold key, the tester immediately locks the displayed value, the to resume measuring. icon appears on the display. Press the key again Electrode Care and Maintenance For best results, please always keep the glass sensitive membrane wet. Ensure that the electrode is thoroughly washed with distilled or deionized water after use. If you do not use the tester for long periods, store the electrode into the 3M KCL solution.
PHscan10S Pocket ph Tester 5 Electrode Replacement When the tester fails to calibrate or gives fluctuating readings for calibration standards, you need to replace the electrode. 1. Twist the electrode collar counter clockwise, pull the old electrode away from the tester. 2. Align the slot on the new electrode, gently push the electrode into the tester. 3. Twist the electrode collar clockwise until it is tight. Installation is completed. Troubleshooting LCD DISPLAY CAUSE CORRECTIVE ACTION Electrode dried out Measured value is out of range Incorrect ph buffer solutions Electrode is broken Soak the electrode in 3M KCL solution at least 20 minutes. Check the electrode whether clogged, dirty or broken. Using the fresh ph buffer solutions for calibration. Replace the electrode. ph Electrode Selection Guide PHscan10S pocket ph tester installed with a general purpose ph electrode that is used to measure the ph of the non-viscous, non-corrosive liquids. If this electrode can not meet your measurement requirements, please refer to the table below to select an applicable sensor. ELECTRODE ORDER CODE DESCRIPTION E-PHSCAN-F E-PHSCAN-L Flat surface ph electrode, suitable for measuring the semisolid substances, e.g., cheese, meats, paper, etc. Long-reach ph electrode, suitable for measuring the small volume samples, e.g., sample in the test tube.
