LIGHTING A LIFE TIME Coolicon Lighting is a brand steeped in eight decades of 20th century British history. Our roots lie in lighting innovation with a specialism of cooling light bulbs and even light distribution for efficiently lighting above and below. We produce products that can last a life time building on the benchmark set by the original 1933 Coolicon. AMBIENT LIGHT ABOVE EIGHT DECADES IN THE MAKING The first Coolicon shade was produced in 1932 and publicly released in 1933, since then it has set the standard everywhere. It was the choice for lighting factories, workshops, mills and farm buildings during the industrialisation of the1930s; seen in the corridors of power in government and military offices during the 1940s. Churchill s War Rooms had one in the kitchen; and it was employed throughout many British institutions such as the early NHS hospitals, London Underground network and was seen throughout everyday life. For instance the Coolicon shade was used by Delia Derbyshire the creator of the Dr Who soundtrack for special effect while working at the BBC. DIRECTIONAL LIGHT BELOW Coolicon shades were specified through out Britain and quietly lit the way for generations thus finding its way into the collective hearts of a nation and beyond.

ORIGINAL COLLECTION An icon in its own right! The Original 1933 Design shade perfectly meets today s lighting requirements, but now with the addition of the large statements model. The large shade shares the same visual language and proportions of the Original but is intended for main room or statement lighting. UNDERGROUND EDITION The Coolicon shade was designed in London and released in 1933, as was the original London Underground map designed by Harry Beck. The Coolicon story shares a rich heritage with the London Underground. 1933 proved to be an icon generating year in the British capital, Frank Pick initiated a coherent design approach to the capitals transport system which Coolicon seamlessly fitted into. This began to shape the city landscape with the modernist style stations by Charles Holden and Stanley Heaps, all while the Coolicon shade helped light the workshops and back rooms that kept the stations and network running. 19 U N D E R G R O U N D E D I T I O N U N D E R G R O U N D E D I T I O N 20
HARRY BECK Harry Beck created the famous London Underground map as we know it today. Beck was a technical draughtsman working at the London Underground Signals Office. Beck used his experience to map the complex tube route in the same colour coordinated format found in electrical circuit diagrams to propose a radical solution that was lauded on it s release in 1933. Owing to it s historic relationship with the Underground, the Coolicon shade is the only product in the world to bare the original map. BONE CHINA SILHOUETTE The Coolicon Silhouette is the only shade in the Coolicon Lighting range not to feature the trademark opening in the galley. This very special shade instead utilises the translucent properties of fine bone china.
