pag. 1 / 11 EX3: stepper motor valve with safety embedded solenoid ON/OFF valve The EX3 electronic expansion valve provides precise refrigerant flow control and optimizes system superheat. EX3 is the ideal solution for supermarket cases and walk-in. The EX3 is a stepper motor and a solenoid safety valve designed to control the HCFC gas flow with embedded in one body the step valve and the safe positive shut-off valve. Combined with XM678D v. 2.6 or higher (multiplexed case controller) and XEV22D v.1.5 or higher (stepper EEV driver), it is the ideal solution for applications such as retail showcases and cold rooms with multiple parallel evaporators. It maximizes energy saving and guarantees quality food storage. The valve is able to shut-off the refrigerant line mechanically in case of power interruption, without the need of an external battery, any additional solenoid valve or electronic component.
1 MAIN APPLICATIONS pag. 2 / 11 The EX3 valve, combined with XM678D case controller and XEV22D driver, is used in such applications where you need to control the superheat on the evaporation with a fine tuning algorithm and the safety benefit of the integral solenoid positive shut-off. Display cases, cold rooms, walk-in, plug-in and every application with refrigerant evaporation with standard gases, can be controlled by the EX3 valve. v. 2.6 or HIGHER v. 1.5 or HIGHER
pag. 3 / 11 2 MAIN FEATURES EX3 is characterized by some important features that are described below. 2.1 PERFECT SH CONTROL AND FLEXIBLE POWER RANGE Thanks to the linear step valve reaction, from 80 up to 500 steps, EX3 is able to control the SH in the full range, in combination with the XEV22D driver and the XM678D case controller. You can select the most suitable valve among 8 different models related to the range. 2.2 SAFETY Positive shut-off function eliminates the necessity of a separate solenoid valve, or any external energy storage device such as UPS, battery or capacitor. Your system will work always in safety condition, without any liquid gas leakage in the evaporator outlet thanks to the mechanical shut-off. 2.3 MAXIMUM WATER PROTECTION The special IP67 connector with its exclusive design combined with the body valve and the step motor design (with his M12 connector), ensure a perfect IP67 protection even under the most severe working conditions. This feature is valuable in case of high pressure water during showcase cleaning, defrost dripping water and when the valve is covered by ice. Depending on the connector type, the valve protection can be IP65 or IP67. 2.4 HIGH ENERGY SAVING Stable controls minimize energy consumption. The EX3 valve is driven by a stepper motor that offers 500 steps of control resolution. This feature reduces mass flow resulting in optimal energy efficiency also in comparison with mechanical or PWM valve performances. EX3 responds more rapidly to heat/thermo load changes, is more adaptable to ambient condition changes during the year, and enables a lower superheat setting with more efficient use of heat exchangers/evaporators. 2.5 CLEANABLE FILTER AND REMOVABLE PINS & ORIFICE In an easy and fast way it is possible to disconnect the top part of the valve motor from the body part, remove the filter and clean it. In the same way, you can remove and change the pin and the orifice without unsolder the pipes.
pag. 4 / 11 2.6 LONG LIFE FOR HIGH RELIABILITY The gaskets, as well as every component, are designed and tested for over 1 million of operations. pag. 7 / 11 4.3.2 SOLENOID VALVE CONNECTIONS The positive shut-off function eliminates the necessity of having a separate solenoid valve or any external energy storage device such as battery or super-cap boards. In order to use this particular function, there are two ways to connect the EX3 ON/OFF self save solenoid valve. - Direct connection to the main power supply (the same power supply of the transformer that supplies the driver) for the stand alone driver XEV22D or XM668D & XM678D models with software version earlier than 2.6. - Connection to the selected relay output selectable by parameter, on the XM668D & XM678D controllers from version 2.6 or higher, able to drive directly the EX3 ON/OFF positive shut-off solenoid valve. You need to set the relay output to enable this function.
