WATER WILL FILL QUICKLY INTO THE 300 GALLON TANK ERUPTING IT IN DAMAGE. Pressure relief valve device The pressure relief device is the standard Hale QSM device. It can only relieve excess pressure from the discharge into the intake when the intake pressure is less than the discharge pressure. 131.3.3 - Driver Qualifications Driver/operator must possess a valid SC Class E or greater license. Driver must have 40 hours driving time on the aerial apparatus Driver must have SC Fire Academy Basic Aerial Operations course. 131.3.4 - Operator Vocabulary All references are made with the cab as the front, tailboard as the rear, officer s seat as the right side and drivers side as the left side of the rig. Clock wise: The instruction given to the operator when a safety or IC desires the operator to rotate the aerial device. Cradle: Location the boom is stowed for road use. Counter clock wise: The instruction given to the operator when a safety or IC desires the operator to rotate the aerial device. Extension: The instruction given the operator to extend the platform out from the bed section. Hand signals: A paper document used to train safety personnel and aerial operators how to communicate effectively. Huck bolt: The device used to assemble the aerial with by the manufacture. Jacks: Hydraulic stabilizers that from the turntable come out and down to level that apparatus with in manufacture specifications. Jacks are also located behind the rear wheels that come straight down with no leveling ability. Jack pins: The safety devices placed in the forward jacks before transferring hydraulic power to the pedestal. Jack plates: Composite boards used to place under the jack feet to spread the weight over a wider area. Ladder: The device attached to the boom used in utmost emergencies by victims (only when accompanied by BFD personnel), or fd relief personnel from the ground to the platform. Lateral: The direction that references the left or right direction from the longitudinal centerline of the apparatus.

Longitudinal: The direction that references from the front to back from the lateral centerline of the apparatus. Lower: That direction given to the operator to lower the boom towards the ground. Manufacture s specifications: What is written by the manufacture to clarify operational procedures or limitations of the apparatus. Raise: That direction given to the operator to raise the boom out of the cradle and away from the ground. Retraction: Those directions given to the operator to return the boom to un-extended position. (Opposite of extend). Rotate: That direction given to the operator to turn either clockwise or counterclockwise with the turntable. Telescoping Aerial platform: Classification of Platform 1 Tower: Term used to identify a telescoping Aerial Platform. Truss: The triangular configuration of the booms. Turntable: The area the raise or hoist cylinders connect the boom to. Also used to allow rotation Waterway: The telescoping pipe that delivers the pump discharge water to the platform nozzles. 131.3.5 - Operational Positioning The tactical objective for the incident must be planned out before the aerial arrives. When possible, positioning should be located to keep minimal stress on the aerial platform. Manufacture s specification allow for a full 360 rotation (after clearing all obstacles, cab etc.) at any angle or extension. When the tactical objective is for firefighting and the building is compromised by fire, seek out a corner to set up in. For stable building fire fighting, first due engines should pull past the fire building to enable adequate reach for the aerial. Target hazards within the district: Response Schedule What to respond to and when 131.3.6 - Target Hazards Commercial Buildings: Spinx/Burger King Waffle House Former Bo Jangles General Heating and Air Foreign Car Unlimited Eldeco Long s Truck and Body AT&T Spooney s H2MP LLC Ryant s Body Shop Universal Plastics S&S Textiles Larry Frank Body Shop L&M Storage Bayne Manufacturing Bonnie Brae Golf Course Club House A+ Automotive

Residential Buildings Holiday Inn Motel Southern Suites Motel Fleetwood Manor Single Family Dwellings of two or more stories All Churches 131.3.7 - Rescue Hazards Fire buildings: Tall buildings are seldom the most challenging for any operation with an aerial device. Rescue can develop from most any situation. Commonly it is most thought of in fire situations. For conscious victims, during a fire rescue it is most desirable to come from above the intended location and align with the victim. In some cases you may be fully extended already and then need to come from the side. DANGER: Do not allow victims to jump into the platform. The pedestal operator MUST be very attentive to the rescue. At any time the victim(s) panic and cause a hazard to the operator in the platform the pedestal operator must stand READY at all times to potentially take over controls. For unconscious victims, normal patient assessment must be performed to decide the best tactic(s) in removing the victim from the hazard. Patient packaging must be performed in accordance with the nature of the injury. A stokes rescue bracket should be used when retrieving the patient. This secures the stokes stretcher the platform until being able to lower the victim to safety. GCEMS should be placed on standby as a minimum precaution while performing this rescue.

131.3.8 - Access to Upper Levels, Egress, RIT etc. Fire buildings: This device may be used for an elevator or transporting tools and equipment to and from the fire floor. Access to upper levels may also include creating above ground standpipe application. Any above grade fire operation that would require RIT could call for this application. 131.3.9 - Ventilation Application Ventilation use for hydraulic assist: ONLY use the nozzle JUST as basic fire schools instruct you to do so. DO NOT PLACE THE NOZZLE TO FLOW INTO THE VENT POINT. 131.3.10 - Fire Hazards / Elevated Master Stream Applications / Mutual Aid Responds with a minimum of an officer and driver Officer may serve as the driver along with a fire fighter Aerial platform operates under the command of the IC The officer maintains manufactures guidelines while operating during mutual aid operations. 131.3.11 - Required Hand Signals to the Operator Extend boom Retract boom Raise Boom Lower Boom

Rotate Counter Clockwise Rotate Clockwise 131.3.12 - Set Up Procedures All Circumstances Positioning: Spotter or driver locates the most desired location for setup with consideration to the manufactures specifications and the objective to perform. Jack Out: A spotter stands in operator s view and signals with the thumb up mode when it is clear to extend the jack out. Spotter verifies the jack to be fully extended. Pin In: Spotter returns to the operator s view and signals with the flat palm of one hand and the fist balled in the other placing them together signaling the pin is in. Plate Down: Spotter places plate center under jack foot and returns to operators view. He signals both palms together and flat indicating to the operator the plate is down and secure. Jack Down: Spotter stays in operators view during jack down operation. Operator levels apparatus. When a pin hole does not line up spotter request operator to bring the next available pin hole in use without upsetting the stability of the setup. Spotter moves to panel and meets operator, during non fire setup an operator in the platform and operator on pedestal are required. *During fire operations it is desirable to place a second person in the platform. *The pedestal operator is responsible for water supply to the tower, intake supply and any other lines he has flowing.

131.3.13 - General Setup Belmont Fire Department *Minimum accepted staffing on a fire operation is pump operator and platform operator. It is desirable to have an additional person in the platform and a pedestal operator. When this is not possible the pump operator is on standby for and in constant communications with the platform operator. The Sutphen 100+ Platform can setup longitudinal in most grades. ANYTIME the truck is not level, it should be positioned in such a way the chassis is lower than the aerial device. 3 The apparatus can level laterally from 5-8 either side. Once the apparatus is in the desired location, with the transmission in drive, shift the PTO on. Return the transmission to neutral. If the fire pump will be used, shift the manual lever to pump. Return the transmission to drive. Place a spotter on the officer side of the apparatus for jack position. After making contact with the spotters extend the jacks out fully. Once the jacks are out, place jack plates directly under the jack feet. Change to the left and right jack lower levers and lower the jacks. Lower the left and right jacks to correct any lateral slope needed. Once level, face the drivers front tire of the apparatus and raise until the bulge is out of the tire. Now change to the rear jack controls and lower jacks until a small portion of bulge is returned to the front tires. Have the spotter install the pin on the officer side jack and the operator installs the pin on the driver s side. Move the selector valve from jack to aerial mode. Turn the tip power switch to on. Platform operator moves to the platform control station and the spotter moves to the pedestal. On the pedestal, switch the tip power switch to on. The platform now has power to control the aerial. ALL PLATFORM PERSONNEL WILL BE IN A LADDER BELT. 131.3.14 - Return to service After flowing water the tower must be turned off, disconnected and drained fully. Under NO circumstances should the tower be retracted without first draining the water way. Inspected all exposed areas of the tower from fire or usage. Return the tower to the cradle following manufactures guides Pedestal or pump operator moves selector to jack mode.

With one person assuming the spotters position and the other at the operator s position remove safety pins. Spotter pulls safety pin and returns to operator s line of sight. The pin is held up to enable the operator to see it indicating it is clear to lower the jack. Operator removes safety pin from driver s side. Operator reverses the set up order, first raising rear jacks then raising turntable jacks. Spotter indicates to operator with the thumbs up indication when the right side jack is completely up. Spotter and operator places jack plates to stowage. Spotter moves back to operator s line of sight and gives thumbs up indicating all clear to retract the jack to its normal position. Apparatus is inspected in a complete 360 indicating all is clear and all tools and equipment are returned to service on the ladder. 131.3.15 - ISO Service Equipment Carried Elevated master stream (6) SCBA s and (6) Spare Cylinders (10) 12 x 18 salvage covers Electric 2500 watt or greater generator (3) 500watt floodlights PPV Fan Oxyacetylene torch Power saw (4) Hand lights Hose roller (6) Pike Poles Radio and portable 10ft. collapsible ladder 14ft extension ladder 131.3.16 - Additional Aerial Equipment 16ft roof ladder 20ft roof 28ft extension 35 ft extension 40ft extension Elevated stream device
