1. Introduction The catalogue presents RXD 36 medium voltage switchgears: - with air insulation, - in metal enclosures, - withdrawable, cubicle type, - with a single busbar system, - nominal voltage 36kV, - adapted for interior installation. 2. Switchgear description The RXD 36 switchgear is intended for operation in distribution stations of companies that produce, transmit and use electric energy. The device complies with the requirements of the standards (IEC) PN-EN 62271-200 and (IEC) PN-EN 62271-1 and it ensures the IP4X degree of protection for external shields according to (IEC) PN-EN 60529. The switchgear is suitable for operation under normal conditions defined by the standard (IEC) PN-EN 62271-1 for interior distribution and control equipment. The switchgear was designed so as to ensure safe normal operation, inspection and service. The switchgear structure is made of hot-dip galvanized steel sheets. The doors are covered with a powder coat of grey colour (RAL 7032) or another colour, upon the customer s order. Types of fields The switchgears may be composed of panels with various functions, such as for instance: - incoming/outgoing panels, - coupler panels (section connector), - measurement panels, - and panels for own needs. The withdrawable unit may be equipped with a circuit-breaker, bridge or set of voltage transformers with fuses. It can assume the following positions: connected, test/disconnected and removed (beyond the panel). Interlocks are used for the withdrawable unit with the circuit-breaker that make it possible to perform switching activities only in the working and test positions. The withdrawable unit can be slid in or out into working position only when the circuit-breaker is open. The RXD 36 is characterised by a high level of operating safety, obtained by the following means: - arc-proof construction: the switchgear complies with all the requirements laid down by the standard, - external shield with IP4X degree of protection, - outlets with exhaust flaps that reduce pressure increase if an internal arc fault occurs inside the enclosure, - connecting interlocks and door locks. 6
Advantages of the switchgear: 1) high protection rating obtained by the following means: - high resistance of the metal enclosure to internal arc impact, - locking of the switching activities: earthing switch / circuit-breaker, - possibility of inspecting switching activities visually through the sight glasses, - signalling of voltage in the panels, - door lock depending on the earthing switch position, - moving the mobile part from test to working position and vice versa, when the panel door is closed, 2) simple and light frameless structure made of galvanized steel sheets, with relatively, small enclosure dimensions, while keeping very high parameters, 3) very easy access to installation spaces, 4) optimum utilisation of installation space, 5) modern switching equipment used. According to the standard, the limit environmental conditions for switchgear operation are the following: - maximum altitude above sea level up to 1000 m. - ambient temperature: - maximum temperature +40ºС - average temperature over 24h +35ºС - minimum temperature -5ºС - maximum relative humidity 95% - atmosphere: normal, non-corrosive and unpolluted 7
3. Switchgear construction Structure The switchgear is a cubicle type device in an enclosure, made of riveted sheet metal shaped by bending. The walls with apparatus brackets create a self-supporting structure. The enclosure contains a separate auxiliary circuit compartment. Vent flaps. There are outlets in the upper part of the enclosure closed by exhaust flaps. Their task is to discharge the pressure created inside the compartment as a result of an internal arc fault. A sudden increase of pressure inside the switchgear causes the plastic screws to break and the flaps to open by deflection. The busbars are located in the upper part of the enclosure. The busbars pass between the enclosures through gland plates. This prevents damage from spreading to adjacent enclosures if an internal arc fault occurs. The gland plates made of insulation material are fitted with grommet insulators supporting the busbars. Outflow bars branch off from the busbars. The main connector is installed on the withdrawable unit. The withdrawable unit in working position and in test/disconnection position is located inside the enclosure, behind a closed door. After opening the door, it can be rolled out to separation position. In the back part of the enclosure there are brackets for installing additional equipment for main circuits. The auxiliary circuit compartment, i.e. a separate cabinet installed in the upper front part of the switchgear front panel is used to install protection units, inspection, measurement and control equipment and automation elements. There is a series of openings in the enclosure walls for cable trays, as well as grommets for cables and wires. The openings are covered by plates in which holes can be made if necessary. A perforated installation plate was designed for equipment installation, placed at the back wall of the enclosure. The equipment may also be installed on the side walls. Busbars The busbars in the switchgear include a single, three-phase busduct with phases in horizontal tandem layout. The busbars rest on grommet insulators built into the side walls and on support insulators mounted to the enclosure roof. The busducts are made of flat copper busbars with rounded edges with the following sections: for 630A current for 1250A current 40x10 R5 mm, 2x(40x10 R5 mm). 8
Earthing protection There is an earthing conductor in each enclosure (a copper bus with 40x5 mm section) located at the bottom, on the back of the enclosure. These conductors between the enclosures are connected by bridges forming an earthing bus conductor. The bus conductor ends with terminals on the right and left hand side of the switchgear used to connect it to the facility s earthing system. Cable connections The panel bottom is suitable for connecting single or multi conductor cables with plastic insulation. We recommend cable fittings manufactured by Tyco Electronics (Raychem), a company whose products we distribute. Interlocking and protection against improper operations The RXD 36 switchgear is equipped with mechanical and electrical interlocks. Mechanical interlocks: 1) making it impossible to slide in or out the withdrawable unit into the working position when the circuit-breaker is closed (required by the standard), 2) allowing the circuit-breaker to be opened or closed only in connected and the test/disconnected positions (required by the standard), 3) allowing the earthing switch to be closed only in test/disconnected or removed position of the withdrawable unit, 4) not allowing the withdrawable unit to be shifted from the test/disconnected position into the connected position if the earthing switch is closed. After obtaining the approval of the switchgear manufacturer, it is also possible to use padlocks. Electrical interlocks: 1) allowing the circuit-breaker to be activated only if its auxiliary circuits are supplied (required by the standard), 2) making it impossible to open the panel door when the earthing switch is open. After obtaining the approval of the switchgear manufacturer the device may be fitted with additional interlocks whose operation is based on miniature switches and electromagnetic locks. 9
4. Switchgear equipment Switching equipment The switchgear is also equipped in the standard version with 3AH SIEMENS vacuum circuit-breakers and optionally with VD4 or HD4 circuit breakers from ABB. Other equipment may be used after obtaining the switchgear manufacturer s consent (unit with load break switch / disconnector). Measuring equipment CTS and VTS transformers from KPB Intra are used for measurement. Voltage in the incoming panels is signalled by reactance insulators and a voltage indicator. Protection equipment Low voltage equipment from any manufacturer may be built into the switchgear, according to the customer s individual needs. It is possible to install any digital relay to protect the medium voltage circuits. There is a possibility to install the arc protection systems in the switchgear. The suggested arc protection systems are ZŁ or VAMP. The systems sense if there is a short-circuit with their flash detection and current or voltage criterion inside the protected switchgear. If both events are simultaneous, the system is activated and a pulse is sent within a defined time (below 10 ms) releasing the main switch. 5. Main circuit, auxiliary circuit diagrams and switchgear automation Main circuits The structural diagrams of main circuits for standard panel types are shown in figure 2 and in the relevant catalogue sheets that can be found in this catalogue and on the website www.katowice.zpue.pl. Auxiliary circuits The low voltage auxiliary circuits include: protection, measurement, control, automation control and signalling systems. The auxiliary system cabinet is intended for equipment in these circuits, located in the upper front part of the switchgear. The cabinet dimensions are shown in figure 3. In order to obtain examples of internal and installation connection diagrams for main and auxiliary devices for typical switchgear equipment, please contact the switchgear manufacturer. Switchgear automation The switchgear is suitable for operation in an integrated control, display and data collection system. For this purpose, it is fitted with digital protection relays (with the possibility of digital communication) and with power engineering automation control units. The switchgear may then operate in superior and automatic control systems. 10
6. Switchgear packaging, transport and installation Packaging Three types of packaging are used for the RXD 36 switchgear: a) standard: the switchgear enclosure placed on a pallet is wrapped in air bubble film and then in stretch film, b) crates: the switchgears packaged as above are placed in crates, c) especially for maritime transport: the switchgears with a moisture absorbing agent placed inside are packed into bags made of film with preservation properties, from which air is sucked out. Switchgears preserved in this manner are transported on pallets or in crates. Transport As a standard, switchgear enclosures are transported individually. Switchgears may be transported to the room they are intended for and moved within that room using a crane, fork lift truck or on rollers. The enclosure is fitted with transport grips for crane lifting. The bend angle of fastening ropes should not exceed 120. It is forbidden to fasten the ropes directly to the enclosure structure. The enclosure is placed on a transport pallet in order to make transport with a fork lift truck possible. During switchgear transport and placement caution should be exercised so as not to damage the coating and the protective sheet metal. Principal equipment such as circuit-breakers, contactors and withdrawable units and low voltage equipment sensitive to shock are transported separately in original packaging supplied by the manufacturers. Switchgear installation Foundation and external connections The switchgear foundation and the external cable and busbar connections depend on the construction of the plant in which the switchgear is going to be placed. They should be made taking into account all the guidelines included in figure 4 and 5 and obtained additionally by arrangement with the switchgear manufacturer. Switchgears are transported to the customer as individual enclosures and assembled at the place of installation. Figure 5 shows switchgear minimal distance from switching room walls. It is advised that dimension Y of the switchgear room should be at least 1000 mm greater than the overall width of the switchgear due to installation technique. They can be mounted: directly on the floor, on a foundation frame fixed to the floor or on the steel or concrete structure in the facility. Independently of the substrate, the switchgears have to be placed horizontally and fastened. 11
7. Equipment delivered with the switchgear The following equipment accompanies each switchgear: - fasteners for connecting the transport sets, - crank for moving the withdrawable unit, - crank for the earthing switch drive, - keys to the enclosure door. Documents delivered with the switchgear: - declaration of conformity, - switchgear operating manual, - operation and maintenance manuals and warranty cards for the equipment used, - switchgear as-built documentation, - warranty certificate. 8.
