6 ALIGNMEN YPES Well over one half of all cars on the road today, and approximately 85% of all new vehicles, require all four wheels to be aligned for proper handling, maximum tire wear and safety. FOUR OAL ALIGNMEN his refers to setting the alignment angles on all four wheels so they are positioned straight ahead and parallel, and the vehicle s steering wheel is centered. WHA IS DONE:. Angle readings are taken on all four wheels 2. Rear wheels are set to specification. (Rear thrust line corresponds tovehicle center line). 3. Steering wheel is centered 4. Front wheels are referenced to the rear thrust line and set to specifications RESUL: All four wheels are positioned straight ahead and parallel, and the steering wheel is centered. FOUR HRUSLINE ALIGNMEN his refers to aligning the front wheels to the Rear hrust Line or driving direction of the Rear Wheels. his is done by taking angle readings on both front and rear wheels and referencing the front wheels to the driving direction of the rear wheels thrust line. (See illustration below). he steering wheel is centered and the front wheels are then set to specifications. WHA IS DONE:. First, you are given information as to whether you should recommend a 4 wheel total or 4 wheel thrust alignment procedure. Next, you are given the adjustment method he next column lists the actual part number for front camber correction, front caster correction, or both. In this case, there is a factory adjustment method, which is very difficult, or you have a choice of two aftermarket adjustment kits, he following column shoes the product page number, which directs you to the page in this catalog giving information about the listed product, including the degree of change possible and a picture of each part number. he next column is for a recommended installation tool, if one is needed. he last column lists the estimated installation time, in hours, for that product. VIN decoding information here are 7 numbers and letters (7 positions) in a VIN and you can divide them into three groups: World Manufacturer Identifier, Vehicle Descriptor Section, and Vehicle Identifier Section. We will go through all 7 positions here so you can decode any VIN number. You will become a VIN decoding expert! World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI) he first three letters and numbers of the VIN are the World Manufacturer Identifier. Position he very first letter or number of the VIN tells you in what region of the world your vehicle was made. Match the letter or number below to the first number or letter of your VIN to find out in what region of the world your VIN was made. A,, C, D, E, F, G, and H are made in Africa J, K, L, M, N, P, and R are made in Asia S,, U, V, W,, Y, and Z are made in Europe, 2, 3, 4, 5 are made in North America 6 and 7 are made in Oceania 8 and 9 are made in South America Position 2 he second letter or number, in combination with the first letter or number in the VIN, tells you in what country the car or truck was made. You may be surprised to know that not all Japanese cars are made in Japan and not all GM cars are made in America and so on. Anyway, cars and trucks are made in over 80 countries and there are over 600 VIN country codes. Position 3 he third number or letter is used by the vehicle manufacturer to identify what kind of vehicle it is. It could be a car, truck, bus and so on. Each vehicle maker uses different codes for this so go to the Automobile Manufacturer website for your vehicle to find out what the third position in the VIN means for your particular vehicle. Vehicle Descriptor Section (VDS) Letters and numbers in positions 4 through 9 is the Vehicle Descriptor Section. his information gives detailed information about the vehicle itself. Position 0 he 0th letter or number of the VIN tells you the model year of the vehicle. Note that this may be different from when it was manufactured, as many automobile manufacturers start to produce next years model this year.
