Design Automotive's engineers have spent countless hours bringing you the ultimate finish protection for your new accessory. Triple Stage Epoxy Powdercoat Process Our exclusive triple stage epoxy powder-coat process is so durable we offer a 5-year limited warranty on it! First the tube gets a thorough cleaning, then it is covered with a corrosion resistant phosphate coating. Next, a base coat of anti-chip E-coat is electrostatically applied. Finally, a resilient layer of semi-gloss black powder-coat is applied - giving the tube a gleaming yet tough finish. Back Country has been E-coating its black powdercoat products since 1998! The Ultimate in Finish Protection We begin with pure 304 stainless steel, formed into it's final shape, and sanded smooth. Next, a fine rouge gets applied by hand with a high speed polishing wheel. Then an ultra-fine finishing compound is applied by skilled artisans bringing out the mirror-like finish. Many of our competitors use chrome plating. If the plating is scratched it can flake or peel, and can only be restored by replating. A scratched stainless steel surface can be restored through polishing. With minimal care, this stainless steel will outlast the painted finish on your truck! Myth: Stainless Steel is Stainless Steel When it comes to stainless steel truck accessories, there are many choices available and it can be difficult to see the differences between competing products. Most people don't realize that there are many different grades of stainless steel, and many of the tube steps out there are made of the lowest grade stainless available. Our stainless steel tubular products are made of 304 grade stainless. The 304 grade stainless steel alloy contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel. This gives it a high resistance to corrosion. Many of our competitors' products use 409 grade stainless, the cheapest kind available. 409 stainless, an alloy containing approximately 11% chromium and no nickel, is less corrosion resistant and less durable. As 409 stainless contains more carbon steel, it can begin to yellow and even rust if proper care is not taken. The most common use for 409 stainless in the automotive industry is exhaust components. 3
