1 ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS Reese Remote Slider Actuator System for Kwik Slide 5th wheel hitches DEALER/INSTALLER: (1) Provide this Manual to end user. (2) Physically demonstrate procedures in this Manual to end user. (3) Have end user demonstrate that he/she understands procedures. END USER: (1) Read and follow this Manual every time you use remote actuation system. (2) Save this Manual for future reference. (3) Pass on copies of Manual to any other user or owner of Hitch. (4) Refer to Owners Manual for fifth wheel operation. TOOLS NEEDED: (1) ¼ - 20 Tap. (2) 3/16 allen wrench. (3) Wire Strippers. (4) Wire Crimpers. (5) Ring Terminal. (6) 3/16 Drill Bit PART QTY. 1. 2 1. For older versions of square tube sliders, the mounting template (figure 1) will need to be used to attach the gear casing to the tower. 2. Position the locking lever in its vertical position. This is the halfway point between the two locking positions. (See figure 2) 3. Slide the mounting template over the lever, make sure that the large diameter hole in the template slides over the single roller on the tower. Use a 3/16 diameter drill bit and drill 4 holes in the tower. (See figure 2) 4. After the 4 holes have been drilled, REMOVE the template and move the single roller to the outside of the tower and use the ¼ tap and tap the 4 holes. 5. Slide the unit and handle to the LOCKED MANEUVER position and slide the gear unit onto the locking lever and secure with the 4 screws provided. IMPORTANT the shorter (2 ¼ ) screw must be installed in the hole position closest to the single roller. (See figure 3) 6. Once the gear unit has been secured to the tower, slide the protective cover over the cross shaft and secure with the two screws provided to the top of the gear unit (See figure 4). 3 1. For the newer version of square tube sliders, the mounting template (figure 1 and Figure 5) does not need to be used to attach the gear casing to the tower. 2. Move the single roller to the outside of the tower, use the ¼ tap and tap the 4 holes in the tower. 3. Slide the unit and handle into the LOCKED MANEUVER position. 4. Slide the gear unit onto the locking lever and secure with the 4 screws provided. IMPORTANT the shorter (2 ¼ ) screw must be installed in the hole position closest to the single roller. (See figure 6) 5. Periodically check the mounting screws of the motor to the tower to ensure that they are securely fastened. 6. Once the gear unit has been secured to the tower, slide the protective cover over the cross shaft and secure with the two screws provided to the top of the gear unit (See figure 4). 4 1. Place the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) underneath the dash of the tow vehicle (See figure 7). Use the zip tie provided to secure underneath the dash of the tow vehicle. 2. Route the black wire (+) and the white wire (-) through the fire wall directly to the battery of the tow vehicle. Connect one end the 15 amp inline fuse to the black wire(+) with the butt connector provided, Crimp the ring terminal on the other end of the 15 amp inline fuse that will go to the battery (see figure 8). DO NOT MAKE THE CONNECTIONS AT THIS TIME. 3. Install the Remote Control Unit (RCU) on the dash of the tow vehicle (See Figure 9) within 36 of the ECU. After securing the remote to the tow vehicle dash, plug the cable into the ECU (See Figure 10). 4. Run the bundle of cable from the ECU to the rear of the tow vehicle, a 1.50 dia hole will need to be drilled for the cable to go through the rear wall of the truck and into the front of the truck bed. 5. Using the diagram provided (See Figure 11), connect the 4 way connector and the 2 way connector from the ECU to the 4 way and 2 way connector from the gearbox. 6. Attach the power (black wire) and ground (white wire) cables to the battery. Ensure that the in-line fuse is on the positive side of the attachment (See Figure 8). 7. To test the unit after installation, follow the operational instructions as listed. A trailer does not have to be used to test. 8. 6 OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS MOVE FROM TOWING TO MANEUVERING POSITION 1. Position truck and trailer in a straight line on a flat, level area. 2. Place truck in Park with emergency brake on. 3. Check the in-cab remote to ensure the Green LED is illuminated. Depress the power button on the top of the in-cab remote control for three (3) seconds to activate system. 4. Push the button opposite the Green LED. 5. Two center Yellow LED s will illuminate and blink along with alarm buzzer. 6. Release the emergency brake, manually engage the trailer brakes from the truck cab, reposition the tow vehicle. 7. Blue LED will illuminate and flash when the KWIK SLIDE hitch is locked in the maneuvering position. 8. If the Blue LED is NOT illuminated and flashing, the latch has not engaged tubes. DO NOT MANEUVER THE TRAILER! 9. Place truck in Park with the emergency brake on. 10. Examine warning label on the slider unit. Indicator pin should be over the green range, if not attempt to manually move the handle to the green range on the warning label. The Blue LED should illuminate and flash. 11. When the Blue LED is illuminated and flashing you are ready to maneuver the trailer. Power button Locked tow Green LED Lock Maneuver Blue LED Push this button to reposition the trailer for maneuvering Kwik-Slide hitches that are not properly locked can suddenly move and kill you! To avoid death or serious injury: Never place any part of body in truck bed or between truck and trailer. 7 OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS MOVE FROM MANEUVERING TO TOWING POSITION 1. Position truck and trailer in a straight line on a flat, level area. 2. Place truck in Park with emergency brake on. 3. Check the in-cab remote to ensure the Blue LED is illuminated and flashing. Depress the power button on the top of the in-cab remote control for three (3) seconds to activate system. 4. Push the button opposite the Blue LED. 5. Two center yellow LED s will illuminate and blink along with alarm buzzer. 6. Release the emergency brake, manually engage the trailer brakes from the truck cab, reposition the tow vehicle. 7. The Green LED will illuminate when the KWIK SLIDE hitch is locked in the towing position. 8. If the Green LED is NOT illuminated, the latch has not engaged tubes. DO NOT TOW! 9. Place truck in Park with the emergency brake on. 10. Examine warning label on the slider. Indicator pin should be over the green range, if not attempt to manually move the handle to the green range on the warning label. The Green LED should be illuminated. 11. 8 NOTES FIVE YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY Cequent Towing Products will replace FREE OF CHARGE any part which proves defective in material or workmanship when presented to any Cequent Towing Products dealer (consult local telephone directory) or Cequent Towing Products warehouse, or when returned to the factory, TRANSPORTATION CHARGES PREPAID, at the address below. THIS WARRANTY IS LIMITED TO DEFECTIVE PARTS REPLACEMENT ONLY. LABOR CHARGES AND/OR DAMAGE INCURRED IN INSTALLATION OR REPLACEMENT AS WELL AS INCIDENTAL AND CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES CONNECTED THEREWITH ARE EXCLUDED. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. Any damage to the 5th Wheel as a result of misuse, abuse, neglect, accident, improper installation, or any use violative of the instruction furnished by us WILL VOID THE WARRANTY. This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
