Section D.1 Operations Support Process Description: The Operations Support Section operating within the Facilities Services Department has responsibility for the following: Aircraft dockingkcaffolding, hangar equipment maintenance, waste handling and hangar cleaning. Waste Handling All waste both hazardous and non-hazardous produced within the facility is collected by Operations Support Staff and brought to the storage and collection areas at the waste segregation compound at hangar five. Full details and disposal methods of hazardous waste are detailed in the process of each section. The procedure for the collection and handling of waste can be found in section H2. The non-hazardous waste includes the following General waste, waste and scrap metal, office paper, cardboard, timber and primary batteries (torch batteries). Every process within the organisation produces nonhazardous waste of some description. This waste is managed on site by the Operations Support staff as follows: General Waste The general waste is collected in grey wheelie bins from the hangar areas and work shops and brought to a waste compactor which in turn is removed by Onyx and brought to landfill. Waste and Scrap Metal Waste and scrap metal, from the hangar areas, workshops and garage, is collected and brought to a waste metal container in the waste segregation compound and removed by National Recycling for recycling. Office Paper Office paper from the office areas and general operations is collected in dedicated bins and placed in a sealed container and removed by Smurfit for recycling. Cardboard Clean cardboard from the stores and general operations is collected in dedicated brown bins through out the facility and placed in a cardboard compactor in the waste segregation compound and removed by Onyx for recycling. Waste Timber Waste timber which includes packing cases and pallets, collected from the hangar areas, workshops garage and stores, is brought to a waste timber skip in the waste segregation compound and removed by Onyx for recycling.

Primary Batteries Primary or torch batteries are collected from the waste segregation unit in the hangars and brought to the chemical stores for collection by National Recycling or Returnbatt for recycling. The hazardous waste includes the following: - Inorganic waste chemicals, solvent waste, aircraft batteries, adhesives/sealants, waste oil, metal containing waste water, fluorescent tubes, organic chemicals and waxes. Hazardous waste is also collected by the operations support section from bunded pallets in sealed and labelled drums form the workshops and hangar areas. This waste is transported on the bunded pallets to the chemical storage units at the waste segregation area for removal by the appropriate licensed contractor. This operation is carried out in accordance with the SR Technics "Disposal of Hazardous Waste" procedure ProcE03.Gen. Hazardous waste collected from Aircraft overhaul is collected from waste segregation units position around the hangars, this waste is also brought to the chemical storage units for disposal Waste oils from Aircraft overhaul are collected in oil trays, which are in turn emptied into a bowser for transportation to the bulk storage tanks in the waste segregation area. The waste oils are stored until collected by the licensed contractor Atlas Environmental for recyclingltreatment.

Section D.1 Aircraft Hangars Drawing Ref: See below The SR Technics hangars are located on the north side of Dublin Airport, positioned west to east and numbered one to six respectively. The scope of work carried out rangers from very short one day checks to heavy maintenance checks requiring the aircraft to be on the ground for four or more weeks. Hangar 1 Drawing ref: HlIPPC (Area 21) Is currently operated by line maintenance and is typically used to carry out overnight checks or unscheduled maintenance. The Hangar can accommodate narrow bodied aircraft (one aisle in the cabin) such as the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 family. Hangar 2 Drawing ref: H2IPPC (Area 10) Is currently operated by Base Maintenance, it is typically used to carry out planned maintenance medium size checks from one to three weeks. The Hangar can accommodate narrow bodied aircraft such as the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 family. Hangar 3 Drawing ref: H3IPPC (Area 16) Is currently operated by Base Maintenance, it is a wide body (two aisles in the cabin) hangar that can accommodate the painting and maintenance on wide body aircraft such as the Boeing 747 or Airbus A330. A vapour extraction system is installed and typically the hangar is used for aircraft painting (not for some considerable time now) and interior modification. The hangar can of course accommodate narrow body aircraft also. Hangar 4 Drawing ref: H4IPPC (Area 3) Is currently operated by Base Maintenance; it is typically used to carry out planned maintenance medium size checks from one to three weeks. The Hangar can accommodate narrow bodied aircraft such as the Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 family. Hangar 5 Drawing ref: H5IPPC (Area 10) Is a wide body hangar that can accommodate maintenance on wide body aircraft such as the Boeing 747 or Airbus A330. It is typically used for medium size checks from one to three week and on occasion longer checks. Workshops run the length of hangars 1 to S.(detailed else where in the application.) Hangar 6 Drawing ref: H6IPPC (Area 30) Can accommodate two wide bodied aircraft at the same time and four narrow bodied. The hangar is used for long and short duration checks.

Process Description A typical three week maintenance check would involve the following. The aircraft is towed into the hangar and positioned according to its size and type. Stands and access platforms are then moved into position and work commences. Remaining fuel is (in some but not all cases) removed by pumping into a fuel bowser. The aircraft fuel tanks (located in the wings and belly) are opened and vented to atmosphere until the combustion level is reduced zero. During this process, seats and interior units are being removed along with exterior panels to allow for inspections to commence. Removed items are stored on shelving / racks. Larger units are removed to a work shop or mezzanine work area depending upon requirements. On the first or second night the aircraft is washed to allow inspection of the fuselage and landing gear if and inspection is required. Engines and flight control surfaces may be removed for inspection or replacement as may the landing gear. Various methods of inspection are used including visual and magnifying glass assisted, eddy current(e1ectric current passed through the structure and measured), Ultra sonic ( sound waves passed through the structure and measured, dye application (makes cracks easier to detect under ultra violet light. Thermo graphic (seeks heat and cold to indicate moisture in composite (fibreglass) panels) and X- Ray inspections. Modifications to the fuselage, interior, electrics, landing gear or engines will commence as required. The aircraft is inspected for faults and repairs are carried out. Repairs may involve sheet metal repairs, machining of fittings. Composite (fibreglass) repairs of panels or the flight controls, repairs to hydraulic and electric systems. As each area is cleared it is reassembled and tested.

Below is a list of work that applies to a range of aircraft Aircraft Wash Carpet replacement Engine and hydraulic oil replacement Greasing of moving parts Paint strip of aircraft Removal of sanitary waste Remove and repair flight control surfaces Repair / replacement of aluminium structure and brackets Repair / replacement of composite floor boards Repair 1 replacement of fibre insulation blankets Repair / replacement of interior plastic / polycarbonate parts Repair 1 replacement of stainless steel and aluminium piping Replacement of electrical wiring looms Replacement of engine parts Replacement of steel control cables Replacement or engines Sanding and paint of aircraft Seat cover replacement Seat foam replacement

Material that are used durin~ a maintenance visit Aluminium sheet metal / extrusions Batteries Cardboard Carpets Composite panels Copper wires Detergents Fabric seat covers Fibre insulation blankets Grease Leather seat covers Oils Engine Oils hydraulic Paint stripper Paints Plastic 1 polycarbonate parts Plastic on a roll Resins Sealant waste Seat foams Solvents Stainless steel sheet metal Steel cables Timber

Waste produced During an aircraft visit there are many different types of waste products generated. Some of this is due to the size or quantity of repair products used, e.g. only a portion of the smallest available tube of sealant may be required but once opened the sealant cannot (in come cases) be reused. Other waste may be old material being removed at life end e.g. carpet. Aluminium sheet metal Carpets Copper wires Fabric seat covers Fibre insulation blankets Grease Leather seat covers Oil contaminated water Oils Engine Oils Hydraulic Paint stripper Paints Plastic / poly carbon parts Sanitary waste Sealant waste Seat foams Solvents Stainless steel sheet metal Steel cables Wash water Air Emissions * Dedicated paint Booths equipped with extract systems which operates during paint operations. Paint Hangar equipped with extract systems which operates during paint operations. * Fugitive Emissions, emissions other than what is extracted through the stacks. Sewer Emissions SE2 + SE3 Detergent contaminated water as a result of washing aircraft and aircraft panels and parts is emitted through SE 2+ SE 3.

Section D.1 Aircraft Technical and Cosmetic wash Location Hangars: 1,3,4,5,6. Drawing Ref: HlIPPC/H3IPPC/H4IPPC/H5IPPC/H6IPPC Process Description During an aircraft maintenance visit it is often required to wash the aircraft. There are three possible reasons for this. (1) There are inspections required to be carried out of the fuselage. In such cases the aircraft must be cleaned to allow for visual (or other) inspection for cracks, corrosion and other defects. (2) To avoid contaminates and dirt causing corrosion. (3) The customer may desire a cleaner aircraft. The wash is carried out by wiping and power hosing. Semi automatic brushes may be used for a cosmetic wash of the fuselage. As detailed on the next page there are three steps in the wash process, depending on the type of wash required and the area to be washed. Steps one, two and three, are considered to be a full technical wash. Step 3 on it own is considered to be a cosmetic wash, step 3 without including the wings is also a cosmetic wash. Air Emissions The air emissions for this process are from two Karcher water heaters (Emission points A56 and A68) Sewer Emissions The sewer emissions from this process are waste waterldetergent discharged to SE 2 and SE 3 Surface and Ground Water Emissions There are no direct emissions to ground or surface water from the workshop. Waste Produced Contaminated materials These are put in the designated collection barrels located in the hangars, the barrels are transported to the Hazardous Chemical Waste Storage area. The barrels are removed by the licensed contractor Shannon Environmental Services for treatment.
