There are different types of pressure unit, but International System of Units (SI units) is the most widely used unit. The absolute pressure is measured relative to the absolute zero pressure (the pressure that would occur at absolute vacuum). While gauge pressure is the pressure relative to the local atmospheric or ambient pressure. Gauge pressure kgf/cm 2 (bar) is used in this catalogue. 4 Pneumatic Reference Data Theoritical Output Relation Between Output & Pressure output force can be found by knowing tube's bore size, piston rod diameter and air pressure. In general, pressure coef cient is depending on sliding resistance of cylinder packing and friction resistance of metal rod. But the load factor of theoritical output is set 0.7 or less generally.in case of fast speed is required, load factor of theoritical output should be set as 0.5 or less. Following is the formula of theoritical force. 8 Pneumatic Reference Data Pneumatic Structure Classi cation Single Acting (Single rod) Single Acting (Double rod) in which the air acts on one side of the piston only, normally piston is returned by spring force or weight. Double Acting (Single rod) Double Acting (Double rod) which the working fluid acts alternately on both sides of the piston. It is a most common type cylinder. Stroke Adjustable with a variable stopper to adjust stroke. Dual Stroke (Single rod) Dual Stroke (Double rod) with 2 strokes. It has the same function as adjusting 2 cylinders. Generally, grey cast iron material is used for its excellent slide characteristics. When light weight is required, plastic or AL alloy wearing is used. Piston rod : Alloy steel S45C or above class is used, plated by hard Cr, with a surface roughness of 1.6S, wear resistance and abrasion resistance. Buckling and bending should be considered when design process is carry on. tube : To prevent wear of inner tube, it required 20 hard plating or hard coating and 1.6S of surface roughness. Cover : Part for rod bush and sealing packing is attached as well as the air port size adjusting part. Tie rod : Fix both of the cover(head side cover and rod side cover) Rod bush : Lateral load applied on piston rod is supported by rod bush and lateral load must be within 1/20 of max. cylinder output. SEAL : 1) Fixing type : O-Ring (NBR) 2) Moving type : Squeeze packing, moving o-ring, lip packing, wiper ring, dust seal and etc. Squeeze packing: When pressue is applied, the expansion force of the paking form a contact pressure to seal. 12 Pneumatic Reference Data Precautions Notes on Installation 1. Do not hit or apply excessive impacts on to cylinder. 2. Flush (with air) or wash to remove chips, cutting oil and other debris from pipe before piping is connected. 3. Be certain to align the rod axis with the load and direction of movement when connecting. (When it is necessary, use a oating joint to prevent eccentric) Notes on Use 1. Check the puri cation system regulary to ensure clean uid is used. 2. Use Turbine oil class 1(ISO VG32) for lubricated type cylinder. 3. Do not discontinue to lubricate once if you lubricate it. 4. Do not scratch or gouge the sliding parts of the cylinder tube or piston rod. (May lead to seal damage and cause air leakage) 5. Install a special device to protect rod if the cylinder is using under a poor conditions (which is full with dust or spark) Notes on Maintenance 1. Check cylinder mounting nut and bolt from become loose. 2. Check mounting bracket of cylinder from getting loose or etc. 3. Check cylinder operating condition. 4. Check the change of speed of cylinder with time. 5. Check air leakage and scratch on rod surface. 6. Check rod end accessory, tie rod or bolt from getting loose. In uences of Foreign Substaince 1. Clog of path of lter element cause pressure drop. 2. Weaken the exhaustion performance of lter drain. 3. Cumulative foreign substaince on ow path decrease ow rate. 4. Cumulative foreign substainceon operating part can cause malfunction. 5. Corrosion can cause malfunction. 6. Exceeded friction can cause damage to seal and diaphragm. 7. 13 Pneumatic Reference Data Cause s & Resolve of Trouble Even though seal material, surface treatment, electrical material, electronics technology has been remarkably improved and product have a longer service life with higher reliability and less failure rate compare with conventional product. However, constant occurrence of trouble is still considerable. Pneumatic is easy to handle and maintenance. However, without understanding of the nature of compressibility characteristic of air as a working uid in pneumatic system might cause an unexpected accident. Different kinds of trouble examples of following pneumatic devices are shown below Pneumatic cylinder, Air hydro cylinder, Rotary actuator, Pressure transmitter Solenoid valve, Speed controller, Reducing valve, Auto switch Air generator, Air compressor, Compressed air quality Lubrication, Safety Pneumatic Reference Data Explain the trouble which happen commonly and explain the causes and resolves by giving examples, so that it is easy to be understood even for a beginner. Among pneumatic devices, trouble mostly happen on pneumatic cylinder and solenoid valve. Following are the details about cylinder and solenoid trouble. (1) Air Source (Air Compressor) Lack of air suppy is a common trouble for air generator. Therefore, select an air compressor with suitable air capacity and select an air tank or change the pipe size might solve the problem. The degradation of air compressor, after cooler performance and other devices or re accident can be prevented by having maintenance regularly. (2) Piping Improper piping method can cause critical pressure drop or draining. Mixing of chips, cutting oil and other debris can also cause a problem. To prevent these troubles from happening for better durability, it is assential that user has to learn a proper piping technic and connect the pipe carefully. ACS4 ACS5 (3) Air quality and Lubrication During air compression, drain problem can not be avoided. Thus, a countermeasure is necessary. Auto drain, air dryer and other devices are used to prevent freezing. Regarding lubrication oil. Improper handing of lubricator or fault maintenance can cause lubrication insuf ciency problem. Learing lubricating technic, applying non lubricated combination can increase service life and rust resistance. ACX S (4) Pneumatic Inadequate pneumatic circuit might cause risk such as cylinder runaway or can not do emergency stop (because of air pressure compressibility). For those trouble, user should have a deep understanding about the relation between load factor of pneumatic cylinder and its operation. Besides, there are other troubles such as piston rod damage or packing damage. These troubles can be avoided by appropriate pneumatic circuit design, usage and installation. (5) Solenoid Valve Pilot type solenoid valve common troubles: insuf cient pilot pressure, malfunction caused by control valve. Direct acting type solenoid valve common troubles: Coil burnout accident caused by inproper spool operation Solenoid has a lot of trouble when associated with methods or environments such as wiring, rain water, temperature and etc. (6) Notes on safety Inadequate pneumatic circuit might cause risk such as cylinder runaway or emergency stop failure (due to air pressure compressibility) Thus, application of a proper pneumatic circuit is essential to prevent accident like dropping of workpiece or hand injured by machine when electricity cut off occur. Pneumatic Reference Data Pre-compressed Type If the stroke of the hydraulic actuator is long, or large flow is required, the pre-compressed type is used to enable rapid movement to the pressure section by air, and then to pressurize using the discharge volume. 1. Rapid Feed Stroke rod is moved to a certain distance by the hydraulic pressure which has the same pressure as the air pressure pass through solenoid valve 1 when solenoid is ON. 2.
