This document is designed to provide aircraft technicians with the sufficient information to inspect, troubleshoot, adjust, repair, test, remove and install the ABI Quick LInk (ABI-TW85). The ABI-TW85 is eligible for installation on the airplanes listed on the attached supplement. (See appendix A of this document.) The installation applies only to aircraft that have Alaskan Bushwheel ABI-3200/3400 series tailwheel assemblies or Scott 3200/3400 series tailwheel assemblies. The information in this document supplements or supercedes the original manufacturer s maintenance manual only in those areas listed. For limitations, procedures and other information not contained in this document, refer to the aircraft manufacturer s maintenance manuals. 02/25/10 Page 3 of 8

4 Revisions: For continuous use of this document, this document must be maintained in current revision status. The List of Effective Pages found on page 3 of this document specifies the current effective date for each page of the document. Each time ABI finds it necessary to revise this document, a revision will be distributed with all new product shipments and available on our website. Upon receipt of the revision, the revised pages should be inserted into this document, the old pages should be discarded and the Record of Revisions page should be completed by the person inserting the revision. It is the responsibility of the person performing maintenance on the installed system to ensure that this document is current prior to performing this maintenance. Box , Chugiak, AK Description and Operation: Description: These Quick Links are used to connect the steering arm to the connector chain. Part Number ABI-TW85 Description Quick Link Operation: Operation of the ABI-TW85 is identical to the operation of the Scott Although it has different installation procedures. Airworthiness Limitations: No additional Airworthiness Limitations have been issued due to the installation of the ABI-TW85. The Airworthiness Limitations section is FAA Approved and specifies maintenance required under and of the Federal Aviation Regulations unless an alternative program has been FAA approved. 02/25/10 Page 4 of 8

5 Maintenance Practices: Access Panels: There are no access panels involved in the installation or maintenance of this link. Removal: WARNING: INSURE AIRCRAFT IS SECURE AND PROPERLY SUPPORTED BEFORE BEGINNING ANY WORK. WORKING UNDER AN IMPROPERLY STABILIZED AIRCRAFT COULD CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. a) Remove the cotter pin. b) Un-screw the clasp nut until it is fully open. c) Slide the quick link free of the steering arm mounting hole. d) Slide the quick link free of the connector chain. Cleaning, Inspection and Repair: Clean and inspect all parts. When inspecting quick links for condition; replace damaged, elongated or misshaped, or excessively worn parts. Check for corrosion and pitting. A pitted or corroded quick link should be replaced. Assembly/Installation: a) Open the ABI-TW85 by rotating the clasp nut until fully open. b) Slide the threaded end of the ABI-TW85 through the mounting hole in the steering arm of tailwheel assembly. c) Rotate ABI-TW85 so the threaded end is opposite of the arm. d) Depending on what direction your chain is installed, slide the threaded end of the ABI-TW85 through the link of the connector chain. e) Screw the clasp nut until the link is closed. f) Insert cotter pin thru hole in clasp nut. g) Secure the cotter pin in place. Inspection Requirements: Scheduled Inspections and Maintenance Checks: This section of the document contains information regarding Time Limits- Inspection and Maintenance Checks, Overhaul and Replacement Items and Inspection Requirements. 02/25/10 Page 5 of 8

6 Time Limits Inspection and Maintenance Checks: Note: Recommended inspection/maintenance intervals do not guarantee that the item will function properly between inspection/maintenance checks. The inspection intervals are based on average usage and environmental conditions. Aircraft operated under extreme conditions (salt water, muddy terrain etc.), may require more frequent maintenance than the intervals specified in this document. The aircraft operator may perform more frequent inspection/maintenance checks based on his own usage. The operator should perform the first inspection interval of the ABI-TW85 installation to coincide with the next scheduled inspection of the aircraft. Overhaul and Replacement Items: There are no scheduled overhaul of replacement item requirements. Maintenance of the ABI-TW85 components are on Condition. Appendix: The ABI-TW85 is eligible for installation of the airplanes listed on attached supplement. The installation applies only to aircraft that have ABI-3200/3400 series or Scott 3200/3400 series tailwheel assemblies installed. 02/25/10 Page 6 of 8
