PFI GIM N/A N/A N/A QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FILTRATION SYSTEM FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION, PLEASE REFER TO THE USE & MAINTENANCE GUIDE / FILTRATION How many gallons of water a 2 bag unit vs. a 1 bag unit can filter? Pool sizes with a 2 bags unit: 75 to 150m3 Pool sizes with a 1 bags unit: up to 75m3 For pools above 150m3, add filters depending to the size of the pool. The position of the filtration unit is very important. Make sure you get the maximum water circulation (left to right). Which speed should I use to filter water? ALWAYS USE THE LOW SPEED TO FILTER WATER! It is far more efficient than high speed! The slower you filter the better. High speed is only an option to play with & entertain users. In which direction do you position the return nozzle? When filtering, we recommend positioning the return nozzle in a specific direction to get the best water circulation: Opposite side of the skimmer and slightly higher than the water surface, to create a "small ripple". As a matter of fact, whatever the depth of the pool, our filtration technology creates a "vertical twister" flow that circulates top & bottom all around your pool, by gyration. This ripple (spread regulation possible) will ensure the best water circulation possible, accelerate the aspiration of debris (at the surface) and create a water movement enjoyed by all. What if the return flow is minimized? Check for any suction blockage; i.e. skimmer basket(s), filter bag(s); clean or replace. Check if the water level is right: 2/3 rd of the skimmer. Check if the canister(s) is locked onto the suction plate in the bottom of the filtration compartment. Check for debris in the pump impeller. What if water is coming up air release valve? Remove the 6 screws from the retaining plate of the return nozzle and remove the return eyeball. You must align and readjust the 2 black gaskets and the Teflon gasket to make them watertight. What if the air release valve does not let air go out the return? Check for debris in the air release valve or in the air tubing. Remove the 6 screws from the retaining plate of the return nozzle and remove the return eyeball. You must align and readjust the 2 black gaskets and the Teflon gasket to make them watertight. What if the air button does not operate? Separate the air tubing from the air button, and then blow air in the air tubing. If the pump switch speeds you must reinstall correctly the air button. Make sure the gasket is well installed and screw the air button firmly. Check the condition of the air button. If it is deteriorated, replace the air button.
How often do you clean the filtration bag? When do you know it needs to be cleaned? As a general rule, we recommend clients to clean bags once a week. There are 2 easy ways to know when you need to wash filtering bag(s): Check the return flow on the return nozzle: -Normal return flow; leave the bag in place. -Low return flow; clean the bag! When you remove the bag(s), if it holds water, then the bag(s) needs cleaning. Indeed, if water readily flows out of the bag(s) through its pores, then the bag(s) does not need cleaning. It is not necessary good to clean the bag(s) every 2 or 3 days. To a certain extent, remember that the dirtier the bag(s), the thinner the filtration. How do you clean the filtration bag? The recommended tool to wash filtering bag(s) is the garden hose. Even if you could use a pressure washer or a washing machine a few times per year, the recommended technique ensures a longer life expectancy for bag(s) and a maximum filtration quality. The recommended method to wash filtering bag(s) is indicated as follows: Use the Desjoyaux cleaning stand. It is better to take off the 2 rings to clean the bag. Begin cleaning the outside part, then turn inside out and finish by cleaning inside part (with seam). We recommend you to wash the bag(s) before & after vacuuming the pool. What filtration timing do you recommend? The more you filter the better. The more you filter the less expensive it is (fewer chemical, effort and time). Filtration timing / Water temperature: Water temperature ( o F) > 90 Hours of filtration (/day) 4 to 7 10 to to 14 > 16 What is the filtration bag lifetime expectancy? Between 2-5 years. Depending on how you wash them and also depending on your water balance, this may vary. What is the technique recommended to drain the pool? Use the drainage kit. To evacuate water to waste, plug a secondary hose on the return (w/ return nozzle reducer). Without using the filtration system you can empty your pool either by using a sump pump or by siphoning it. Please refer to the use and maintenance guide for the Desjoyaux filtration system, p.10. Will Baquacil affect the filtration system? Baquacil is incompatible with our filtration since that particular product obstructs the bag(s)! If it has already been used, please empty 2/3 rd of the water volume as a precaution to ensure the best filtration for the next years. How far can a heater be from the filtration unit? 20 to 30 feet maximum. If further, you must use a secondary pump. What do you have to do to make heater work on low speed?
Build back pressure by putting the return nozzle reducer on the return eyeball. This will reduce flow and help heater fire up. If this doesn t work then close the bypass manifold valve step by step until heater fires. How do you clean & vacuum the pool? Use the vacuum plates delivered with the pool kit. Please refer to the use and maintenance guide for the Desjoyaux filtration system, p. 7. What water treatment chemicals & operation do you recommend? We recommend the use of chlorine and PH increasers & decreasers. Please refer to the use and maintenance guide for the Desjoyaux filtration system, p How do you start up the filtration system at the opening period? Please refer to the use and maintenance guide for the Desjoyaux filtration system, p.11. How do you winterize the filtration system? Please refer to the use and maintenance guide for the Desjoyaux filtration system, p.12. II. PUMP 1- WHICH PUMP IS IT? a) 2-SPEED PUMP PUMP PBI - ref PUMP PBI EPOXY - ref PUMP RTB - ref
b) SINGLE SPEED PUMP PUMP P18 - ref QUESTIONS ABOUT PUMP OPERATING PRINCIPLES PLEASE REFER TO THE INSTALLATION, TROUBLESHOOTING & REPAIR GUIDE / PUMP & CONTROL BOX How many gallons of water a 2 speed pump vs. a 1 speed pump can filter? 2speed pump: 1 st speed: 5,300 gal/hr (20 m3/h) 2 nd speed: 9,000 gal/hr (34 m3/h). Single speed pump: 4,800 gal/hr (18 m3/h).. What are the main things that can go wrong with the pump? The main things that can go wrong with the pump are the: Capacitor Contactor Air switch Windings (Wiring) Thermal Overload Reset Switch In case of flooding, everything could be damaged. What is the only threat that will both reduce the pump s lifetime and also void its warranty? Frequent flooding of the pump or also called bad drainage of the pump compartment. A bad drain installation is lethal to our system: check the efficiency of drains twice during the season. What if the pump stopped working and when turned ON it just hums? Turn the power OFF and check that the impeller & fan rotate freely. Turn the power OFF and check the condition of the capacitor. Replace if necessary. If the pump has been flooded, bearings or windings may be bad. Check the windings. What if the pump stopped working and when turned ON it trips the GFCI? Turn the power OFF and unplug the pump connector. Turn main power switch ON and filtration switch on MANUAL.
If it trips the GFCI, you have a leakage of current in the line that goes from the control box to the pump connector: loose, corroded or wet connections. If it does not trip the GFCI, the problem comes from the pump: it could be either that there is a loose or corroded connection or that the pump has been surrounded by water and it is still wet. Check the windings. What if the pump stopped working and when turned ON nothing happens? Check power OUT from the control box to the pump. The pump may have been surrounded by water: Check the bearings by rotating manually the pump impeller or fan. Check the windings. In case of rapid overload or thermal fatigue, pumps are equipped with thermal protectors. Pump ref. 1674: 1 protector automatically resetable. Pump ref : 2 protectors manually resetable. Push each of the manual reset button (red color). Pump ref : If equipped w/ RTB, 1 button manually resetable, w/o RTB it is automatically resetable. In case of the Minetec control box, check fuses. Replace them with jumper wires (12 AWG). If the filtration system is equipped with the new Desjoyaux control box & its float switch, maybe the float switch clicked ON and stopped power supply at the control box. Make sure that drains work as the float switch clicked ON. Reset manually the remote control switch located inside the control box, next to the contactor (grey button). Power to the filtration unit can be re-established only by a qualified electrician, after having: Shut OFF the main power supply by means of the GFCI. Removed the control box cover (aluminum plate). Dried all items in the technical compartment. Reset the remote control switch allowing electrical power to be restored. Low speed does not operate? Or High speed does not operate? Check the condition of the air button & its air tubing. Check power OUT from the control box to the pump. In case of a problem: Check power IN at the control box. Replace fuses by jumper wires on the Minetec control box. Check the control box filtration switch. Check the control box contactor. If the air button is good as well as the power OUT, the problem comes from the pump: Check all wires connections. Check the windings. Check the pump air switch. Check the pump contactor. For pumps equipped with RTB try to reset manually the red reset button(s). If case of slow overload, one of the thermal protectors (2 probes / high speed & 2 probes / low speed) inserted in the windings may have gone bad. Please return the pump for warranty inspection. Pump is running but it is noisy? Most likely, it is a mechanical problem caused by flooding or long-term condensation. The bearings need to be inspected and replaced. Return pump for warranty inspection. It may also be the fan is in contact with the fan cover.
The pump contactor s mechanism may be bad and noisy. What is the recommended technique to prime the pump? First, fill the pump with water before plugging the return pipe and make sure that valves are opened. Second, insert a garden hose in the return nozzle between 30 sec-1min and turn the pump ON. For further information, please refer to the use and maintenance guide p. 11. What if the pump is air bound (air is in the system)? Loosen the pump unions to let air escape, and then try to start the pump again. Note: loosen discharge first. What is necessary to do to replace an old generation pump with a new style pump RTB? It is necessary to use the pump adapter kit to upgrade the old style pump with the new RTB pump. What is necessary to replace any 2-speed pumps with the single speed or the contrary? Nothing, it is interchangeable. 3- PUMP FLOODING ISSUES What is a good drain installation? A proper drainage consists in running separately the 3 drains to daylight with slope (or to a sump pit). Recently, Desjoyaux facilitated good drainage installation by closing the bottom drain on all units: run only 2 drains separately to daylight with slope (or to a sump pit) w/ float switch and the pump RTB. Note: However, state of the art installers still prefer connecting the bottom drain correctly: when there is a possibility to run the bottom drain to daylight with slope, both the closing of the bottom drain and the installation of the float switch are not mandatory. What is a bad drain installation? Drains go into a drywell. Not really bad but risky depending on the water table and drainage around the pool. Drains go into the ground. Need to be redone. No drain installed. Need to be installed correctly. What kind of drain installation does the filtration have? Good drainage: 3 pipes separately to daylight with slope (or to a sump pit). 2 pipes separately to daylight with slope (or to a sump pit) w/ float switch & pump RTB. Bad drainage: Drains go into a drywell. Drains go into the ground. Drains are all connected together. No drain installed. What if it is a good installation and the pump compartment is flooded? Drains can be clogged with debris. Need to unclog drains: snake, blow air or water w/ pressure, Drain King. Drains can be broken due to ground movements, landscaping operations, freezing
Drainage pipes connected together reduces the drainage efficiency. Sump pump system quit with storm. Act of gods. What if the pump compartment is flooded and it is a bad installation? Drainage needs to be redone properly. Good drainage: 3 pipes separately to daylight with slope (or to a sump pit). 2 pipes separately to daylight with slope (or to a sump pit) w/ float switch & pump RTB. Drain inspection Please check each of them by inserting a garden hose and turn water on for 5 to 15 min. Tell us if each of them is effective and where do they each end? If drains are installed correctly (daylight with slope or sump pump) but not effective, try first to unplug them. If you cannot unplug them, find them by digging, and run them separately to daylight with slope or to a sum pit with a sum pump. Are drains connected together? Drainage is better if drains run separately to day light or to a sump pit. If they are connected, find them by digging, and run them separately to daylight with slope or to a sum pit with a sum pump. If drains are not installed, proceed to the drain installation 2 options possible: 3 drains (bottom drain + air tank + overflow) that go separately to daylight or to a sump pump. 2 drains (air tank drain + overflow) that go separately to daylight or to a sump pump. As the bottom drain is plugged, the installation of the pump RTB and the new control box (manual reset) with its float switch is mandatory. The warranty will be voided if the control box is not installed with its float switch. If you have a problem only with the bottom drain (daylight not possible or drain non efficient or not existing) and the air tank drain is or can be efficient, we have the adapter kit that allows you to plug the bottom drain. The condition is that the new pump & control box with leak detector have to be installed. It is not allowed to drill holes in the pump compartment to evacuate water. The reason is that water will infiltrate through those holes in case of high water table or bad drainage around the pool. Warranty will be voided. III. CONTROL BOX 1- WHICH CONTROL BOX IS IT? a) MINETEC CONTROL BOX
MINETEC - ref b) DESJOYAUX CONTROL BOX DESJOYAUX - ref DESJOYAUX (Manual Reset) - ref QUESTIONS ABOUT CONTROL BOX OPERATING PRINCIPLES PLEASE REFER TO THE INSTALLATION, TROUBLESHOOTING & REPAIR GUIDE / PUMP & CONTROL BOX What are the main things that can go wrong with the control box? The main things that can go wrong with the control box are the: Contactor (ref / Minetec, ref / 5010 & 90312). Automatic time clock (/ 5010 & 90312). Main power switch (/ 5010 & 90312). Filtration switch. Remote control switch (/ 90312). Fuses (/ Minetec). GFCI. What if the contactor does not operate? Stop power supply by means of the GFCI or main breaker. Check the well functioning of the contactor s blue strip by switching it manually. If it is blocked, please replace the contactor. Then, check the contactor with a voltmeter. Please refer to the installation, troubleshooting & repair guide for the Desjoyaux pump & control box, p. 7. What if the automatic time clock does not operate? Make sure you know how to set and use the automatic time clock. Stop power supply by means of the GFCI or main breaker. Check the automatic time clock with an ohmmeter.
Please refer to the installation, troubleshooting & repair guide for the Desjoyaux pump & control box, p. 8. What if the main power switch does not operate? Check the main power switch with an ohmmeter. Please refer to the installation, troubleshooting & repair guide for the Desjoyaux pump & control box, p. 8. What if the filtration switch does not operate? Check the filtration switch with an ohmmeter. Please refer to the installation, troubleshooting & repair guide for the Desjoyaux pump & control box, p. 8. What if the remote control switch does not operate? Check the remote control switch with an ohmmeter. Remember that when the orange indicator is viewing, you have a reading, indeed the system should work. Please refer to the installation, troubleshooting & repair guide for the Desjoyaux pump & control box, p. 8. What if the GFCI does not operate? Ensure first that control box has power. Second, ensure that the main power switch is ON. By pressing test button, the GFCI should trip automatically. Turn installation power back ON by pressing the TEST button on the GFCI. Please refer to the installation, troubleshooting & repair guide for the Desjoyaux pump & control box, p. 7. How do you set the automatic time clock? Please refer to the installation, troubleshooting & repair guide for the Desjoyaux pump & control box, p. 4. When the control box is turned ON why does the GFCI trip? It means that there is a leakage of current in the system: loose wire or presence of water or wrong wiring. Turn the power OFF and unplug the pump connector. Turn main power switch ON and filtration switch on MANUAL. If it trips the GFCI, you have a leakage of current (loose wire) or presence of water in the line that go from the control box to the pump connector. If it does not trip the GFCI, the problem comes from the pump: it could be a leakage of current (loose wire) or that the pump has been surrounded by water and it is still wet. Check the windings. What if the Minetec control box s fuses are frequently bad? Change with same rate fuses. As the float switch clicked ON, it stopped all operations. How do you reset the control box? Make sure that drains work as the float switch clicked on. Once drainage is efficient you can reset the control box.
Is it possible to replace a control box with the new control box w/ float switch & manual reset? Yes, they are interchangeable. Make sure that the correct voltage is brought to the pump connector: Low speed = black wire. High speed = red wire. Common = white wire. Ground = green wire. Between common (white) and high (red) you should have 230V. Between common (white) and low (Black) you should have 230V. If you want to install the float switch (closed or non efficient bottom drain) you must also be equipped with a pump RTB and ask for the adapter kit.
